Disney is constantly aiming to add new experiences for guests, from new attractions to massive expansions at the parks. Some new additions to the Disney Parks have been introduced in 2024, from the opening of the highly-anticipated Tiana's Bayou Adventure to new scenes on Star Tours and more.
Beyond the new experiences and attractions that are set to open in 2024, many huge announcements have been made for projects that do not have opening dates yet. Some are major expansions, while others are smaller concepts that are still highly anticipated.
We have recently gotten news about major new additions coming to Walt Disney World parks, as well as news on some highly-anticipated Disneyland projects. The D23 Expo, now known just as “D23,” brought the next big set of announcements, which we felt couldn't have come soon enough as Universal is pushing the envelope with their new Epic Universe theme park that opens in 2024.
Keep reading for more information on these experiences that will be coming soon to Disneyland and Disney World! Disney has made a statement that they intend to invest $60 Billion in the Disney theme parks over the next decade.

Announced Disney Projects Without Dates
We'll break down the new attractions that we are still waiting on announcement dates for by Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Many of these attractions and new offerings have not even had construction begin yet.
Generally, we didn't include previously announced offerings that Disney has not acknowledged for several years. Infamously, among fans, in 2019 there was a wide-ranging set of announcements at the D23 Expo fan event that were largely canceled or altered due to COVID. The below additions are all likely moving forward and we are just waiting for their dates.
We also didn't include Tiana's Bayou Adventure because the ride has already opened at Walt Disney World as of June 2024 and the Disneyland opening date was recently announced.
New Disney Parks Experiences -Walt Disney World Announcements
There are several major new experiences coming to Disney World in the next few years, from a reimagining of DinoLand U.S.A. to an area inspired by the Tropical Americas to a brand-new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Hollywood Studios. While Disney has provided a rough timeline of when work will begin and conclude for some of these projects, we still do not have an opening date for many of them.
Pirate of the Caribbean Lounge Coming to Magic Kingdom

A new Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge will be coming to Adventureland in Magic Kingdom that will expand on the story of the beloved attraction. Disney recently revealed new concept artwork for the lounge which you can see above. Disney describes this as a place where “bandits and buccaneers-to-be from every corner of the seven seas” will come together. While Disney has shared that this space will open in 2025, there is no specific opening date yet.
We expect that this will be a really well-received addition given the excitement surrounding the new Haunted Mansion bar coming to the Disney Treasure, which is inspired by another favorite classic ride. We imagine that the Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge will take a similar approach by incorporating iconic elements of the attraction and creating a fully immersive atmosphere for guests to enjoy.
Test Track Reimagined at EPCOT
Test Track at EPCOT is currently undergoing a reimagining. Imagineers are working with teams from Chevrolet on this next version of the attraction and reaching back to the original World of Motion ride (the ride that Test Track replaced) for inspiration. Disney shared that the intent is to bring the “spirit of optimism” from the World of Motion ride into the next iteration of Test Track.
The reimagined Test Track will “celebrate today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future,” adding new show scenes focused on onboard technology, customization, and personalization followed by a scenic outdoor trip. You can see all of the new details that were announced for the reimagined Test Track concept here.
The reimagined Test Track will be reopening in 2025, but no details have been shared on a specific date as of yet.
DinoLand Reimagined at Animal Kingdom
One of the biggest changes coming to Animal Kingdom is the reimagining of DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom into a new land inspired by the Tropical Americas. Many have felt that DinoLand U.S.A. has been in need of an update for a while, so this reimagining will add fresh experiences to the park. This new area will not be themed to a specific intellectual property but will instead be a generally themed land, which we think works nicely with the idea of Animal Kingdom as a whole.
In the Tropical Americas Land, both Indiana Jones and Encanto will be featured. See details about the first-ever Encanto-themed ride-through attraction that will be here as well as a new Indiana Jones experience. You can see more details about the Tropical Americas land coming to Animal Kingdom, including new concept art, models, and more in our full guide.
Disney mentioned that construction on the land is planned to begin this fall, and the land will open in 2027. This is a bigger expansion, so we're still a ways to go and don't yet have solid details on the timeline like an opening date.
Zootopia Show Coming to the Tree of Life Theater
Another new addition to Animal Kingdom is a Zootopia experience that will be coming to the Tree of Life theater. This new show will be replacing “It’s Tough to Be a Bug.” Disney shared that this new experience will allow guests to visit the different biomes “you only glimpse in the film,” featuring characters like Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and an Officer Clawhauser figure. Given the incredibly immersive Zootopia Land that recently opened in Shanghai Disney, we're excited to see what Disney does with this new addition.
The show will be called “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” It is set to open next winter, but we don't have an exact opening date yet.
“Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” Magic Kingdom Expansion
One of the most highly anticipated new Disney Parks experiences is the expansion of Magic Kingdom “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” which will be the biggest ever for the park. The scale of this expansion is going to be comparable to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – World of Avatar, adding new attractions, restaurants, shows, and more.
Ideas like Encanto, Coco, and a Villains Land were previously possibilities that were shared. Then, at D23, it was confirmed that a Villains Land will be coming to Magic Kingdom! The land will feature villains from Walt Disney Animation Studios classic films and will have two major attractions, dining, and shopping.
Preparation is underway for the new Villains Land, but we do not yet have a specific timeline or opening date for this major expansion.
Monsters, Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios
At the most recent D23, it was announced that there will be a new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Hollywood Studios. In the land, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. and the monsters need laughter to power the city. Visitors will be able to zoom through the factory via a new door coaster! This will be the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney park.
See all details about the new attraction, including a ride concept model, in our Monsters, Inc, announcement here! Work is scheduled to begin next year, but there has not yet been a clear timeline or opening date announced yet.
New Cars Attractions Coming to Magic Kingdom
Disney announced that there will be a new area inspired by Cars coming to a reimagined area of Frontierland in Magic Kingdom. The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be removed to make space for this new experience. There will be two new Cars-themed attractions. One will take you on a rally race through the mountains climbing trails, dodging geysers, and splashing through mudholes, and the other will be a family-friendly attraction for younger guests.
Work on this new Cars area will begin in early 2025, and there has not yet been an opening date announced.
New Disney Parks Experiences – Disneyland Announcements
There are several exciting new additions in the works for Disneyland, from new rides coming to Avengers Campus to the new Avatar experience and the first-ever Coco ride coming to Disney California Adventure. For most of these projects, we have an idea of when work will begin but do not yet have a firm opening date.
Disney California Adventure Multiverse Avengers Ride
A huge addition coming to Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure is the Multiverse Avengers E-ticket attraction where guests will team up with Avengers from the Multiverse to defeat a variant of Thanos, “King Thanos.” Since Avengers Campus opened in 2021, it has featured some of our favorite attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure as well as multiple fun character interactions, but the land as a whole does feel as if it needs something bigger.
After Disney revealed the new multiverse ride vehicles that will be featured in the attraction at Destination D23, Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram mentioned in a post that the attraction would feature “physical worlds” brought to life “with a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.” Then, at D23, Disney revealed new concept art as well as the name and premise of the attraction.
Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on a multi-world adventure as they team up with the Avengers to fight King Thanos, a variant of the villain who won in this reality. The technology that the Avengers use to jump between worlds has gone missing, and Thanos is using it to wreak havoc. See more new details that were released about the Avengers attraction here!
We do not yet have an opening date for the ride, but Disney revealed that work on the expansion of Avengers Campus (which will also introduce another new ride—more details below!) will start next year in 2025.
Stark Flight Lab Avengers Campus Ride
The second new ride coming to Avengers Campus is Stark Flight Lab. In this experience, you’ll sit in two-person pods and deploy to a testing station, where a robot arm grabs your pod and whirls you around in simulated flight. Read more details about this new Avengers Campus attraction here!
Coco Ride at Disney California Adventure
A major new ride that does not yet have an opening date is the first-ever Coco ride coming to a Disney park! This new experience in Disney California Adventure is filled with the music and characters from the film.
In the ride, you will join Miguel on a journey to the Land of the Dead. Walt Disney Imagineering is taking inspiration from classics like the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean for the experience. See everything we know so far about the new Coco ride here!
We do not yet have an opening date for the attraction, but it is a little ways off as work begins in 2026.
“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” Show
The first-ever animatronic of Walt Disney will be debuting in the show Walt Disney – A Magical Life at the Main Street Opera House. After its debut and initial run, the show will play in rotation with Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln. See everything we know so far about the new Walt Disney show here!
Disney shared that the show will be debuting in 2025, but no specific opening date has been shared yet. Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln has been one of the Disneyland attractions closed for refurbishment since April of this year.
Avatar Experience Coming to Disneyland
One of the most exciting additions is the “bold” new Avatar experience that will be coming to Disney California Adventure. Disney most recently shared that the new area will be inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming Avatar films.
There will be a new attraction that will take guests on an adventure in search of the natural wonders of Pandora. Guests will encounter the beauty and danger of Pandora on this journey, which will take them all the way to the seas of Pandora. You can see our full guide to the Avatar experience coming to Disneyland and more about the recent details that were shared about the Avatar experience here.
For a breakdown of all of the new rides coming to Disneyland, you can see our guide for more details.
DisneylandForward Expansion
In 2021, Disneyland announced its plans for a huge multi-year resort expansion project called DisneylandForward. In this expansion, we could see things like new lands and attractions, a new entertainment and shopping facility, a new parking structure, and more. The plans originally centered around the land use zoning changes required for Disney to pursue these expansion ideas given that the 1993 agreement between Disney and the City of Anaheim established specific zones on Disneyland Resort property for what could be built and where. The DisneylandForward initiative recently received its final vote of approval.
Disney has now stated that they will invest at least $1.9 Billion at the resort as part of this project during a recent update. We discuss what this could all look like in our guide to the initiative linked below.
You can see everything you need to know about the DisneylandForward expansion in our guide.
New Mission Featuring Mandalorian Coming to Millennium Falcon
There is a new mission featuring the Mandalorian and Grogu coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Through the partnership between Disney and Epic Games, Epic’s Unreal Engine will help bring this new mission to the ride. Star Wars creative executive Dave Filoni shared how guests will be able to “fly alongside Mando and Grogu on thrilling, and dangerous, missions.”
Disney shared that this experience will come to Galaxy's Edge when the new Mandalorian and Grogu film comes to theaters in 2026. It not yet clear what the exact opening date is for this new mision. The new film will be released on May 22, 2026.
