What is happening right now at Walt Disney World?
The most major projects coming to Walt Disney World in the next few years includes major expansions and land overhauls in Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.
- A new Tropical Americas land (called “Pueblo Esperanza”) is replacing DinoLand U.S.A, at Animal Kingdom introducing two new attractions themed to Encanto and Indiana Jones.
- A new Monsters, Inc. Land is coming to Hollywood Studios which will feature the long awaited “door” rollercoaster.
- Magic Kingdom expansion will introduce a new Villains Land focused on famous Disney villains.
- A new area inspired by Cars will be coming to Magic Kingdom as part of a reimagined section of Frontierland which will be replacing the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
Many of these projects are set to begin construction in 2025.
While bigger projects and expansions introducing new rides and experiences are in the works, Walt Disney World also consistently offers limited-time special events and seasonal offerings throughout the year.

There have been some exciting new additions and reimaginings that have recently opened at Walt Disney World. Here are some that have recently opened:
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a reimagining of Splash Mountain themed to Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, recently opened in Magic Kingdom Park.
- EPCOT’s construction phase has now come to an end introducing new spaces to host EPCOT’s Festivals and a Moana walk-through attraction.
- Country Bear Musical Jamboree in Magic Kingdom Park recently reopened with new Disney inspired songs and makeovers for the Country Bears.
- Some new scenes were added to Star Tours, introducing new additions inspired by the Disney+ series Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and Andor.
- Two of the most popular rides in Walt Disney World, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, opened within the past three years.
There are also some major new rides and expansions in progress right now with opening dates coming soon. Here are some of the projects coming to Walt Disney World that are in the works:
- Two new shows debut at Hollywood Studios featuring The Little Mermaid and Disney Villains. “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” and “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” begin May 27, 2025.
- GEO-82, the new adults-only lounge, will open in EPCOT on June 4th with premium fireworks views from Spaceship Earth.
- New nighttime parade “Disney Starlight” debuts late summer 2025 at Magic Kingdom.
- Test Track at EPCOT will reopen in late summer 2025 after an extensive reimagining of the attraction and a new storyline.
- A family-friendly Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge will open at Magic Kingdom in late 2025.
- “Zootopia: Better Together” replaces the former “It’s Tough to be a Bug” show at the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom winter 2025.
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is closing August 2025 to receive a major refurbishment including new ride vehicles, improved gameplay, and more animatronics. The ride will reopen in early 2026.
- A new storyline is coming to the Millennium Falcon in Galaxy’s Edge! This new mission will feature the Mandalorian and Grogu and will debut when the upcoming feature film The Mandalorian and Grogu comes to theaters on May 22, 2026.
