Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the name of the paid service at Walt Disney World that grants guests to access the shorter lines for popular rides and experiences in the theme parks.
Guests can book up to three ride reservations for each day before their trip meaning you will arrive at the parks with short lines already reserved for three rides. This advance booking of Lightning Lane rides is a popular feature of this system and allows the service to work great for guests.

Walt Disney Word Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Walt Disney Word replaced the previous Genie+ system in summer 2024. So if you've heard the service referred to as Genie+ or FastPass, this is the current version of those other skip the line services.
The average cost of Lightning Lane Multi Pass is around $25 per day but can go as high as $39 per person per day. Most popular attractions at Walt Disney World have two separate lines: the regular standby line and the Lightning Lane. Everyone can access the regular standby line at no additional cost while guests utilizing the Lightning Lane need to pay for this access.
Guests staying on-site at a Walt Disney World hotel can purchase Lightning Lane a week before their check in date while all other guests can purchase three days before their visit. This means that on-site guests get first dibs on availability for booking advance selections for rides which is a huge advantage.
If you are already familiar with the service and are looking for the best tips from experts, read our guide to Walt Disney World Lightning Lane Tips so you can get the most out of this service.
What Are Lightning Lanes? All Terms Defined
Most popular attractions at Walt Disney World have two separate lines: the regular standby line and the Lightning Lane. Everyone can access the regular standby line at no additional cost while guests utilizing the Lightning Lane need to pay for this access.
This isn't necessarily front of the line access but by using the Lightning Lane you are essentially skipping the long waits in the standby lines. On average, most guests usually don't wait more than 20 minutes in the Lightning Lane. In some cases, the lines are walk ons.
I recognize all of this does not make planning a trip to Walt Disney World even less confusing. Let's break down all of the terms that I'll cover in this guide.
- Genie: the FREE planning tool that is built into the My Experience App. Genie can help you plan your day and make suggestions for trip planning.
- Lightning Lane: this is the name of the shorter line you pay for access to. Most rides will have two lines: a regular line and the Lightning Lane. The Lightning Lane will always be a much shorter wait, often less than 20 minutes and sometimes as quick as a walk-on
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass: this is the PAID service that gives guests access to shorter lines for popular rides. These ride reservations can be booked in advance and while in the park.
- Lightning Lane Single Pass: this is the name of the paid pass that lets you access the newest and most popular rides in Walt Disney World (five in total) without needing to buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass. These rides are purchased separately which means you can pay for access to these rides AND Lightning Lane Multi Pass at the same time. These rides are NOT included in the general cost of Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Now that we know the terminology, let's discuss how much these skip the line services cost.
How Much Does Lightning Lane Multi Pass Cost?
Lightning Lane Multi Pass starts at $15 per day per person after tax at Walt Disney World and can go as high as $39 per person, per day. The most common price is around $25 per day and it's rare to see the cost of Lightning Lane Multi Pass on the lowest end of the spectrum.
Purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to reserve your access to the Lightning Lanes but it also includes complimentary downloads of on-ride photos taken while on an attractions.
Read more about the cost of Lightning Lane and the data we've compiled in our guide.
How Much Is Lightning Lane Single Pass?
The price for Lightning Lane Single Pass will vary depending on the specific ride chosen. These rides are NOT included in the general Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase but you also do NOT need to have purchased Lightning Lane Multi Pass to purchase these.
The cost of Lightning Lane Single Pass can average from $10 to $25 per person depending on the ride and how crowded the parks are that day.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass Overview
Guests can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass prior to their visit and book up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in advance for each day.
You will be able to choose from a variety of available times for these advance Lightning Lane selections. This means you can effectively visit Walt Disney World knowing you have at least three Lightning Lane reservations available for each park day.
Once guests enter the park, they will be able to make additional Lightning Lane selections once they use one of their selections on the My Experience App. Each time you redeem your Lightning Lane selection you can then book your next one.
There is a limit of one Lightning Lane entry per attraction, per day. So if you want to repeat any favorite rides, you will need to utilize the standby line.
When Can You Book Lightning Lanes?
The available window of when you can book a Lightning Lane reservation will depend on if you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel or not.
Guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel can book their Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance for their entire stay of up to 14 days. This earliest planning benefit is offered to guests at all Disney Resort hotels, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green Resort.
All other guests can book their Lightning Lane passes up to three days in advance..
- Guests with date-based theme park tickets (which require the Guest to choose a start date at the time of purchase) can purchase 3 days before the first day of their ticket, for the total number of valid admission days on their ticket.
- Guests with other ticket types can purchase 3 days before their park visit.
- Annual Passholders can purchase 3 days before their park visit.
Guests can purchase Lightning Lane passes for days they have valid theme park admission starting at 7:00 AM Eastern Time on their first day of eligibility. This is true for both on site hotel guests and off site hotel guests.
What Disney World Rides Have Lightning Lanes?
Lightning Lanes are offered for all the most popular attractions at each theme park. These rides will have a regular standby line and a Lightning Lane entrance. All guests can use the standby entrance and those who have paid for Lightning Lane Multi Pass and have a ride reservation can enter that short line to access the ride.

You can only ride each attraction once using the Lightning Lane Pass selection. If you want to ride something again you will need to use the standby line.
Can You Use Lightning Lane for Character Experiences?
Unfortunately, character meet and greet experiences are not offered as part of the Lightning Lane system. This was changed in 2024 when Disney removed the majority of these experiences from the service.
It's likely that Disney felt that these Lightning Lanes were not being used efficiently and that by making these experiences standby only will manage crowds better. If these experiences are all only standby then this also “sucks up” part of the crowds a bit better which allows the entire Lightning Lane Multi Pass to work more efficiently if some guests are spending more time waiting for character experiences.
What Is Lightning Lane Single Pass?
Lightning Lane Single Pass works differently than the Lightning Lane Multi Pass option as it is a cost per ride service, not a flat cost with access to multiple rides. Only a few rides in the theme parks have this higher cost service and they tend to be the newest and most popular attractions.
Here is the full list of the available Lightning Lane Single Pass experiences for each park.
Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane Single Pass
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
EPCOT Lightning Lane Single Pass
Hollywood Studios Lightning Lane Single Pass
Animal Kingdom Lightning Lane Single Pass
- Avatar Pandora Flight of Passage
Guests can book for everyone in their party and prices will vary for each attraction depending on day and wait times. You will be given the choice of what time you want to ride when you make your purchase in the app.
Average Pricing
Here is an example of pricing per person so you can see what to expect:
- Rise of the Resistance: $15 weekday and weekend
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind $14 weekday / $17 weekend
- Avatar Pandora Flight of Passage: $11 weekday/$14 weekend
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: $10 weekday/$12 weekend
Of course, if you're visiting during a peak travel week like Thanksgiving or Christmas week you can expect to pay the higher tier of pricing even if it's a weekday. The price is influenced most by crowd levels but this is an average of the trends we've seen in price.
How to Use Purchase Lightning Lane Passes at Disney World
Now that we've broken down all the lingo, the price, and what's included in Lightning Lane passes… let's talk about how to use them!
Before you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass/Single Pass you need to set up your Disney account and link everyone in your group.
- Download the My Disney Experience app which is the official Walt Disney World app.
- Connect everyone in your travel group on your Family & Friends list in the My Disney Experience app—so you’ll be able to purchase Lightning Lane passes and make plans for everyone that is eligible. This part is especially important, you don't want to be scrambling at the last minute realizing someone isn't connected to the group.
- Ask everyone what their top ride picks are and then you can save them in the My Disney Experience app under the “My Day” feature.
Before you can purchase Lightning Lane passes, everyone must have valid theme park admission. Once you have secured Walt Disney World tickets for everyone in your group and linked everything to your My Disney Experience app, then you can purchase your Lightning Lane passes when you are eligible to do so.
How to Use Lightning Lane Passes
Reminder: Walt Disney World hotel guests can purchase their passes seven days prior to their visit and off-site guests can purchase three days prior.
Now here's the step by step on how to purchase Lightning Lane passes.
- Open the My Disney Experience app, then tap the Lightning Lane Passes section on the home screen.
- Select a date and theme park.
- Select a Lightning Lane Single Pass, a Lightning Lane Multi Pass or both.
- If you select a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can choose up to 3 Lightning Lane Multi Pass experiences and arrival windows in advance.
- If you select a Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can choose an arrival window in advance.
- Follow all prompts to complete your purchase—and receive a confirmation.
- From the confirmation screen, you can tap “Plan Another Day” to purchase another pass—or tap “View My Day” for details about your Lightning Lane selections.
It's that easy! Just make sure you know what you want to do in advance because the most popular rides may have more limited availability and run out quick. There won't be an unlimited number of selections for everyone! See our guide to Disney World Lightning Lane tips and advance booking for details on what to reserve first at Disney World.
Example Day of Using Lightning Lane Passes at Disney World
Since most guests stay on-site at Walt Disney World, let's go through an example morning of using this new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system for someone staying at a Walt Disney World hotel and going to EPCOT.
- Seven days prior to your Walt Disney World hotel check in day, you log on the My Disney Experience app and book three rides. You pick one ride from the top tier (Frozen Ever After) and then two rides from the other group of rides (Spaceship Earth and Mission: Space). You book one of these ride reservations for in the morning.
- You might also decide to purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
- You follow our EPCOT morning strategy and rope drop Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.
- Once you redeem your first Lightning Lane pass in the morning, before lunch, then you can pull up the My Disney Experience app and book another ride reservation.
- Remember: you will still have your existing pre-booked ride reservations as part of your day.
- The most likely scenario here is that the most available rides will be some of the least popular so you can secure Living with the Land.
This is just a few short steps but you get the idea. Once you get the hang of it, you're just looking at My Experience App to grab your next available Lightning Lane after you've already redeemed your previous one. No complicated timers need to be set or anything like that, just simply book at new Lightning Lane pass after you use one.
How to Modify Lightning Lane Plans
You can modify your Lightning Lane passes after you've made your selections. To do so, just tap the Lightning Lane Passes section on the app’s home screen to find your plans. Once you do that you can:
- Change your selected park and/or date in advance (subject to availability)—up until the moment you redeem your first Lightning Lane selection of the day.
- Change each selected experience and/or arrival window in advance (subject to availability)—up until the start of the arrival window
There is a lot of flexibility here to change things around but keep in mind that the availability for some Lightning Lane passes will be more limited if you change them later! Be sure to think it through before you change anything.
Can You Use Lightning Lane Passes When Park Hopping?
Yes, you can use Lightning Lane passes when you park hop at Walt Disney World. All you need to do is redeem one of your Lightning Lane passes and then you can book another one for any other park. As for the advance Lightning Lane passes, you can only book those all in one park. But once you're inside the theme parks, you have the flexibility to switch parks and still keep using Lightning Lanes.
