At the SXSW Conference, Disney creatives talked about how this highly anticipated signature doors attraction is going to work. The ride takes you on an adventure through the Monsters, Inc. door vault. Imagineer Michael Hundgen mentioned how “Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time.”

In the presentation, they mentioned how they “can't use the traditional lift hill where you kind of click and clack up an incline.” For this first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney park, after guests are loaded, there is a vertical lift where they are taken straight up to the ceiling of the ride, and they hang below the track for the duration of the experience. Disney shared an animatic of the ride showing this vertical lift after boarding. How cool!

Disney previously shared how this new Monsters, Inc. land would pick up after the events of the film. Now, humans have been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc., and “the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly.”

Work begins this year on this new Monsters, Inc. lan, which will be replacing Muppet*Vision 3D and Muppets Courtyard. You can see the closing dates that were announced for the Grand Avenue area and Muppet*Vision 3D.

  1. They should put doors on the back of each ride vehicle so from each vehicle’s POV, they’re holding onto one door, following another door. They’ve missed the whole magic of the ride if they don’t.
