BREAKING! Beloved Disney Hollywood Studios Attraction Closing Forever, Monsters Inc Land Replacing

During this past summer's D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Disney confirmed that a brand new land themed to Monsters, Inc. would be coming to Hollywood Studios.

This new land will feature the long dreamed of “door coaster” where guests will be able to visit the Monsters, Inc. factory and “zoom through the building” on a door from the film in this new coaster. One detail has been missing since this announcement and that is WHERE this new land would be going.

We just got confirmation on the location of this new land and sadly, it's what most of us expected but definitely not the news we wanted. Let's get into this big news drop from Disney that will permanently alter Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. That said there is one positive element to this news today for fans.

Monsters, Inc. Land Replacing Muppet*Vision 3D and Muppets Courtyard

Hollywood Studios concept art

Well, we did see this coming as we reported earlier when the Monsters, Inc. land was first confirmed this was a possibility. One of the most logical locations for this new Monsters, Inc. land is the Muppets Courtyard which has long had a feeling of neglect despite how awesome Muppet*Vision 3D is.

Muppet*Vision 3D is the wonderful 3D show that features the Muppets giving you a tour of their 3D technology lab. Everything goes wrong when one of the 3D elements escapes from the show.

For fans that might be sad about the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney also shared that they are having “creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” Perhaps we will see some version of the movie added to Disney Plus or have it rotate through one of the other theaters in Hollywood Studios.

I am disappointed to lose Muppet*Vision 3D but I am slightly pacified since Disney also announced that the Muppets will be replacing Aerosmith as the theme for Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster. I would argue, why not keep both, but I can see what Disney is trying to do here by offering a compromise. And Aerosmith has been long overdue as a replacement theme for Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster. And let's face it, Muppets Courtyard typically sits vacant and many guests only go into this area of Hollywood Studios to enjoy Muppet*Vision 3D. This is a logical move all around but I will sorely miss Muppet*Vision 3D.

Monsters, Inc. Land's New Theater Show

Monsters Inc Theater

Disney will utilize the space in the new Monsters, Inc. land to create a “whole new theater” show in the Muppet*Vision 3D Theater. The concept art of this new land shared by Disney gives us some insight into how the space will be utilized.

It looks like this area will be expanded to make room for the ride at the end of this space but many of the existing buildings can remain and just be reimagined to Monsters, Inc. Hopefully that means less overall construction time to create this new space in Hollywood Studios!

No official closing date has been announced for Muppets*Vision 3D or Muppets Courtyard but Disney shared guests have time to enjoy it before it closes with more details coming next year.
