A Monsters, Inc. land has been announced for Hollywood Studios at Disney World! The land is set after the events of the film and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. The monsters need laughter to power the city. Guests will be able to visit the factory and “zoom through the building” like Sulley and Mike via a door in a new coaster.

“The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” Josh D’Amaro shared. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Disney shared that work on the project is going to begin next year.

We don't yet know where the Monsters, Inc. land will go within Hollywood Studios. There are a couple of different expansion plots that could be considered. We are hoping that it fits into the Animation Courtyard space which currently houses Star Wars Launch Bay. This wouldn't result in anything with a big fan following being removed. Some have worried that MuppetVision 3D could be on the chopping block which would be such a mistake. Walt Disney World has continuously used the line that they have the blessing of space in Florida. They should take advantage of that space to add new capacity rather than getting rid of attractions that are still fan favorites.

Since Monsters Inc. first came out we have dreamt of a door roller coaster. The concept has drifted in and out of the fan consciousness with occasional rumors over the years that a ride would be built in Disney California Adventure. That never happened and we thought that the ride was gone for good, but now we have this great news. We are pleased to see Disney look to some of their animated new classics for these expansions.
