2024 is the year of The Princess and the Frog at Disney Parks, as Tiana's Bayou Adventure is opening at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland this year. We now have the opening date for Tiana's Bayou Adventure coming to Disneyland Park.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure is the reimagining of Splash Mountain and is set after the events of The Princess and the Frog. The attraction will feature Disney's most innovative Audio-Animatronics figures yet, a next-chapter story with original characters, music from the film, and an original song by PJ Morton.
We have been watching the progress on the attraction closely at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Now, we have a Tiana's Bayou Adventure Disneyland opening date. Below we also have some of our musing on the progress of the attraction and a range of updates on how the ride is moving towards opening.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure Disneyland Opening Date Announced
Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland will open November 15th 2024 on the same day as the start of the Disneyland Christmas! This opening date comes on the later end of our predicted potential opening periods for the attraction. That doesn't come as much of a surprise as the version of the attraction at Walt Disney World has had some technical issues this summer that have caused longer closures.
But not only that, Critter Country is getting a name change! The entire area is going to be renamed Bayou Country after Tiana's Bayou Adventure. We had a feeling a name change might be on the horizon as this area of the park has been changing drastically. The name change is fitting and also blends in nicely with New Orleans Square next door. Disney Parks Blog shared that Bayou Country is “situated on the edge of New Orleans Square with shady trees, mesmerizing music and a vast collection of enchanting surprises.” This all ties in this area of the park nicely.
Bayou Country will include all the same experiences Critter Country did like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and the Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes along with the newly reimagined Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree.

My Knowledge of Tiana's Bayou Adventure
At the time of this post, I've been to Magic Kingdom Park 44 times this year to document the construction on Tiana's Bayou Adventure. I've taken over 1,000 photos during my visits and have followed this attraction closer than anyone.
I've been focused on covering this attraction specifically because I think it's going to be an instant classic building on the legacy of Splash Mountain. I have seen every major update and milestone for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World, and can't wait to finally experience it in June.

I want to use the facts of the timeline at Walt Disney World to help determine when Tiana's Bayou Adventure could officially open at Disneyland.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure Major Milestone at Disneyland
The biggest milestone yet for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland is fantastic news for the attraction. Guests first spotted logs going down the 50-foot plunge on May 16, less than a year after Splash Mountain closed on May 31, 2023. A very unique thing about this reimagining is that the log testing is viewable during park hours, whereas with an attraction that's completely indoors, the testing would not be visible.
Log testing is required due to the entire inside of the attraction being reimagined, and is a fantastic sign for when it could officially open later this year. The ride system and ride vehicles are the same as the former Splash Mountain, yet will be used to tell an entirely new story for Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
It's important to note that Haunted Mansion AND Critter Country are currently closed alongside the work on Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland. The work on Haunted Mansion is expected to wrap up before Critter Country and Tiana's Bayou Adventure open later this year, as the park will undoubtedly need Haunted Mansion open for guest flow in the area. Here's our recent update on the work underway in Critter Country at Disneyland.
The Timeline of Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World
The exterior construction timeline for Walt Disney World is the best information we can use for when Tiana's Bayou Adventure could officially open at Disneyland Park. It's important to note that since these are 2 separate projects, the timelines will not be identical, yet can be used as a sign of far along work is at Disneyland. Please keep that in mind for the rest of the article.
The first day the majority of scaffolding came down for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World was on January 9, 2024 and on April 28, 2024 the same thing happened at Disneyland. The big news for Disneyland is that log testing has already started just a few weeks after the scaffolding was removed, whereas at Walt Disney World, log testing didn't start until February 13, 2024 over a month later.
Another very important milestone we have to watch for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland is when ride testing starts with the Walt Disney Imagineering project team working on the attraction. Ride testing with the project team started at Walt Disney World on March 22, roughly 5 weeks after the first logs went down the 50-foot plunge.
The first logs were spotted going down the 50-foot plunge at Disneyland on May 16, 2024, so I'm hoping that by the last week of June, we see the project team riding at Disneyland. I would not be shocked to see this happen, as once Tiana's Bayou Adventure officially opens at Walt Disney World on June 28, 2024, the entire project team can fully shift their focus to Disneyland.
The fact that Tiana's Bayou Adventure is nearly 100% completed at Walt Disney World is the best news for Disneyland now that the project team can focus on one version of the attraction, rather than two at the same time!

When Could Tiana's Bayou Adventure Officially Open at Disneyland?
Now, between the timeline of Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World, and the recent milestones at Disneyland, we can use that to help determine when Tiana's Bayou Adventure could officially open at Disneyland.
As I previously mentioned, the biggest milestone for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World was ride testing with the Imagineers, which started on March 22. From March 22, 2024 to opening day of June 28, 2024 is a 98-day window from the first ride tests to the official opening. Looking at this even closer, the window from the first log testing at Walt Disney World on February 13 to opening day on June 28 was 136 days, which also can be used to compare to the testing at Disneyland.
Since ride testing hasn't started at Disneyland yet, the initial log testing for Walt Disney World is the best information to go off of. The first logs were spotted going down the 50-foot plunge at Walt Disney World on February 13, 2024. Now that logs were seen testing at Disneyland on May 16, adding 136 days after that would put the opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure around September 29, 2024.
I would expect that the earliest date Tiana's Bayou Adventure could open on at Disneyland would be October 1, 2024. The reason October 1 is significant is because it marks the start of Disney's new fiscal year. Disney often aligns openings around specific beginnings and endings of financial quarters because the opening date causes them to realize and assign specific costs to a certain quarter. Based on the alignment of the testing at Walt Disney World it would make a lot of sense that Disney would open their new attraction around October 1, 2024. Typically Disneyland opens new attractions on a Friday so we can predict that one early opening date for the attraction could be October 4, 2024.
Going into November, Thanksgiving is on November 28 this year, which could also be a target date for the attraction's opening. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is opening on June 28 at Walt Disney World, which is the final Friday before the 4th of July. The final Friday before Thanksgiving is November 22, 2024 if a similar plan is used for Disneyland, so November 22 is another date to closely watch going forward. Again, I am sure Disney is racing to get the attraction open earlier than this because it is a water ride and Splash Mountain always historically had shorter waits in the winter. Perhaps the colder months will function as enough of a deterrent that Disneyland can avoid the virtual queue for the ride altogether.
Both of these dates are only predictions. At the end of the day we know that Disneyland wants to get the attraction open as quickly as possible so that it can absorb crowds during the busy Disneyland Halloween season and so that it opens during the warmer weather season when guests will be more excited to hop on a water ride.
Right now, it's fantastic to see that scaffolding is coming down at Disneyland, along with the first log tests. Splash Mountain at Disneyland closed 4 months after Splash Mountain closed at Walt Disney World, yet the recent milestones signify that Tiana's Bayou Adventure will open sooner than expected at Disneyland. I personally hope that Tiana's Bayou Adventure opens at Disneyland on October 4, 2024 just in time for Halloween and the holiday season. The biggest milestone I'll be waiting for at Disneyland is the Imagineer ride tests, so hopefully that comes in June.
