Pixar Pier and Toy Story Land are both fun and charming locations. They’re perfect spots for Pixar lovers, families, and children. Within these lands, you’ll find a variety of attractions, dining locations, and shopping locations. Character meet and greets are also available at these lands with favorite Pixar characters.

While Pixar Pier is themed to Disney/Pixar movies, Toy Story Land is themed to just one of those movies – Toy Story! When you walk into this land, you’re actually walking into Andy’s backyard. When you’re here, you’re shrunk down to the size of a toy, making everything else around you much larger than you are.

You’ll see how Andy creatively put this land together with toys, lights, writing utensils, and other various items. Look down when you’re walking around and you’ll even be able to spot Andy’s foot prints!

During your time at Toy Story Land, you’ll be able to enjoy family-friendly attractions. Take a spin with the Little Green Men on Alien Swirling Saucers. Hop aboard Slinky Dog and enjoy the calm twists and turns of Slinky Dog Dash.

You can also dine at Toy Story-themed dining locations! For a quick bite, stop at Woody’s Lunch Box. You’ll see Andy’s creative skills shine through again at this quick service location. He put together a great area for Guests (or toys) to gather when they’re ready for something to eat.

When you want to take a break from playing and are needing a larger meal, head over to Roundup Rodeo BBQ. At this restaurant, you’ll be able to enjoy BBQ fare that’s served family-style. The menu includes items such as Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs, Buttercup’s Beef Brisket, There’s a Sausage in my Boot – Fire-Grilled Pork Sausage, and BBQ Chicken – With Style. There are also plant-based options which include Combat Carloflower with Harissa Drizzle and Walnut Gremolata, Scrumptious Bratwurst, and a Rip Roarin’ Rib Chop.

Toy Story Midway Mania

Toy Story Mania Toy Story Land

Attraction Type

Toy Story Midway Mania is a 4D interactive dark ride that takes Guests through a series of mini-games. As you make your way throughout the attraction, the games will be displayed digitally on large screens. These mini-games all reflect classic midway games that you would find at a festival or carnival. Throughout the ride, you will experience a practice round and five additional games. These games include:

  • Pie Throw Practice Booth
  • Hamm & Eggs
  • Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts
  • Green Army Men Shoot Camp
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers
  • Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery

Pie Throw Practice Booth is your first opportunity to experience what it’s like shooting  targets on this ride. While you throw pies, you will be attempting to hit targets that are held by some of our favorite toys! (This is a good chance to practice your aim since they don’t hold the targets still!) Even though this practice round is a game in itself, you don’t accumulate any points during it.

After the Pie Throw Practice Booth, you will move on to Hamme & Eggs (egg toss game), Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts (dart game), Green Army Men Shoot Camp (combination baseball throw/plate break game), Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers (ring toss game), and finish with Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery (suction cup shooting game).

How to Play

Toy Story Midway Mania ride vehicle

During your time in the queue, you will be given a pair of 3D glasses. These will help you see everything on the screens clearly and make the effects of the moving objects even more thrilling! Besides the 3D glasses, everything else that you need in order to play the midway games is in your ride vehicle. Each ride vehicle is equipped with four blasters – two in the front and two in the back. One pair of blasters (and set of opponents) is green and yellow while the other pair is blue and red.

The blasters have a handle on them, making them easy to hold onto and maneuver. You’ll be able to move your blaster to the left, right, up, down, in circular motions, diagonally.. Essentially, however you wish to aim your blaster, you’ll be able to do so. On the back of the blaster is a pull string. This is what you’ll use to fire your ammo. Every time you pull the string, the objects for that specific game will shoot out. Remember, depending on the game, this can be pies, eggs, darts, baseballs, rings, or suction-cup-tipped darts.

Once the games begin, you’ll simply aim your blaster at your desired target and pull the string. Simple! However, this is a fast-paced game. You’ll be doing this motion rather quickly, over and over, in an attempt to hit as many targets as possible.

Goal

Toy Story Mania queue

From the fun aspect of this attraction, the goal is to come out with the highest score. You’ll earn bragging rights by scoring more than the person next to you. To step it up a notch, you can gain supreme bragging rights if you have the highest score in the entire ride vehicle.

If you’re more interested in a goal based on points, you can set your own personal goal. Currently, it’s a very popular goal to try to achieve a score of 500,000+ points. However, on average, it’s more common for high scores to hover in the 100,000-200,000 point range.

Since the more common scores are quite a bit lower than 500,000 points, how exactly do you get to such a high score? Keep reading to find out! I’m going to provide you with tips and tricks that you can use the next time you ride Toy Story Midway Mania or Toy Story Mania to help you come closer to achieving this high score!

Tips and Tricks

Toy Story Mania queue

One of our very own Mickey Visit writers, Drew, is an avid Toy Story Mania fan and a pro at scoring 500,000 points! He’s taken his experience and knowledge of the ride and has constructed a tutorial that explains how he’s able to achieve such an impressive score. Here is some of his best advice for scoring 500,000 points on Toy Story Mania.

1. Ride By Yourself

In order to reach a score of 500,000 points or more, you’ll need to unlock Easter egg levels within the mini-games. These unlocked levels will provide the opportunity to score a mass amount of points that you aren’t able to achieve on the regular level. Unfortunately, if you are playing against someone else, you won’t be able to reach a 500,000 point game due to the fact that they’ll be taking too many points away from you.

2. Don’t Waste Energy at the Pie Throw Practice Booth

This is an extremely good tip. Many Guests go Hamm when they first come upon the practice round. Myself included! It’s fun to start yanking on the pull string and acting like you’re already scoring a bunch of points. (Even though you know you really aren’t.) While you may not expect it, this attraction does take quite a bit of energy. By the end of the ride, your arms get extremely tired! It’s smart to not waste your energy on a game where you aren’t able to score any points. Instead, make sure you get a general feel of the blaster, the aim on it, and how it works. After you do that, take it easy and wait until the actual mini-games start.

3. Hamm & Eggs

The first mini-game that you’ll play is Hamm & Eggs. This is a game where you throw eggs at targets. This is also the easiest game out of all of the mini-games that you’ll be playing on Toy Story Mania. While every other game has Easter egg levels that you can unlock for a higher score, Hamm & Eggs does not. It does, however, have a particular pattern that you’ll want to follow to achieve the highest point value.

At the beginning of this segment, you’ll hear Hamm say, “Keep that fox out of the hen house!”, and that’s exactly what you’ll want to do. After hitting the fox, hens will run at the bottom of the screen that are worth 1,000 and 2,000 points. Other animals to look out for at the bottom of the screen are the gophers. These gophers will have values of 500 and 1,000 points. You’ll also want to keep your eye out on the two pigs on the side of the screen. By knocking these pigs over, you’ll reveal a cat that can be worth up to 2,000 points.

A lot of these animals pop up multiple times, so keep shooting even if you do knock them over. The more times you knock them over, the more points you’ll get! Now, the important part is that you remember the pattern in which you want to hit the animals. You’ll first want to hit the fox, then the hens, gophers, pigs, and finally the cat.

Target Score for Hamm & Eggs: 50,000+ Points

4. Rex & Trixie's Dino Darts

During Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts, you will be shooting darts at balloons. This is the first mini-game that has an additional level. The first level is a volcano. To make the volcano erupt, you’ll need to shoot 6 lava balloons. (The dinosaurs in the back also have 500 point and 1,000 point balloons attached to them. These are great balloons to focus on for a high score.) After you shoot all 6 lava balloons and the volcano starts to erupt, aim your darts at the top edge of the volcano. You will be able to easily pop the balloons that are erupting out of the volcano by popping them as soon as they start to come out.

You will not be able to enter the next level of Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts until you complete the volcano level. Once the volcano erupts, you will then be on the meteor level. On this level, there will be two meteors flying in on each side. You’ll want to shoot these meteors down as quickly as possible. It doesn’t matter which side you start on, but if you don’t shoot them down quickly, the dinosaurs that are walking in the back will walk into the path of the meteors and block your shot, causing you to not be able to get the final chance at a high score on this game. After you clear the meteors, three meteor balloon clusters will fly out from the top corners. You’ll want to hit these clusters in the middle so you can pop as many balloons as possible before the cluster explodes.

5. Target Score for Rex & Trixie’s Dino Darts: 80,000+ Points

For this mini-game, you’ll be attempting to break plates by throwing baseballs at them. The first goals you want to aim for are the plates near the top of the mountain that are attached to flying aircraft. It’s important that you hit these plates before they fall down. The next big goal will be 2,000 point plates. However, while you’re waiting for those to enter the scene, aim your baseballs to the left of the screen and hit as many 500 point and 1,000 point plates as you can.

The 2,000 point plates will then appear, one on the left side and one on the right side. They’ll fly up in a motion as though they’re being tossed upwards. Since you’re already shooting on the left side, make sure you aim your baseballs between the two mountains. Pre-aiming in this manner will be the easiest way to hit the 2,000 point plate that flies up on the left side. Immediately after you hit the 2,000 point plate on the left, move over to the right side of the screen and hit the 2,000 plate as it’s falling down.

If you successfully hit both of the 2,000 point flying plates, the front of the mountain will move and reveal a tank. Afterwards, more flying plates will appear on the left and right side. There will be a total of 8 plates valued at 2,000 points each. The goal is to hit 7 of these 8 plates. Make sure you don’t hit all 8 plates, or you will miss out on valuable points. The tank that was revealed will periodically shoot out 5,000 point plates towards you during this final round. The tank will shoot out a total of 6 of these plates. However, if you shoot all 8 of the 2,000 point flying plates, the mountain will cover the tank back up and you will miss out on your opportunity to hit the 5,000 point plates that the tank shoots out.

Target Score for Green Army Men Shoot Camp: 70,000+ Points

At this point in Toy Story Mania, you'll want to have a total score of 200,000+ points.

6. Buzz Lightyear's Flying Tossers

This mini-game requires you to toss rings around various objects such as aliens, rockets, and planets. Your ultimate goal in this game is to unlock the robot level. In order to unlock the robot level, you’ll need to toss a ring around every alien that’s on the rocket in the center of the screen before one of them pops up again. If you do this successfully, the rocket will shoot off and reveal the robot. In order to ring these aliens successfully and quickly, Drew says,

“I suggest starting on the bottom of the rocket and going in a clockwise or counter-clockwise pattern, whichever you prefer, to get the aliens on the edges, and then quickly moving your focus back to the center to ring the final few aliens before one of them pops back up.”

When the robot is revealed, it will open and close its mouth. Each time its mouth opens, it will have a point value inside of its mouth. Do NOT shoot any rings inside of its mouth when the point value says 100. This means that you will only receive 100 points for each ring and the value will not go up any further. While avoiding the robot's 100 point mouth, you can focus your attention on other aliens, planets, and rockets in order to gain more points. (Keep an eye out for the 5,000 point aliens that drop down from the top of the screen!)

While you don’t want to shoot into the robot’s mouth when it is open with the 100 point value, you WILL want to shoot into its mouth every other time it opens. After the 100 points, the robot’s point levels will rise to 500 points, 1,000 points, and then 2,000 points. Every ring that you get in with these point values will be worth that amount of points.

Target Score for Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers: 120,000+ Points

At this point in Toy Story Mania, you'll want to have a total score of 320,000+ points.

7. Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery

For the final mini-game, you will be shooting suction-cup-tipped darts towards targets. The game opens up with 7 targets valued at 100 points. When you hit one of these targets, they expand into multiple 500 point and 1,000 point targets. Rather than immediately aiming for these higher value targets, continue to clear the 100 point targets. After you clear all 100 point targets, the entire board will be filled with 500 point and 1,000 point targets. Clear all of these targets and the board will then fill with 1,000 point and 2,ooo point targets. Hit as many of these as you can before you head into the bonus round!

As your ride vehicle moves towards the bonus round, continue to shoot at targets! Focus on the pairs of 500 point targets that appear towards the bottom of the screen. Each time you hit both 500 point targets that are in a pair, a 2,000 point target will appear. Hit these targets as many times as you can. This is a great way to rack up points!

BONUS ROUND – Mine Cars

At the bonus round, there will be a total of four mine tracks. Each mine car on the track has a target on it. Hit each mine car across all four tracks. The more targets you hit, the higher the point value becomes. The point value can go all the way up to 5,000 points per target.

The final stage of the bonus round is rapid fire shooting. A target will appear that you will want to hit as quickly as possible. (This is your last chance to score points, so don’t hold back!) The faster you hit the targets, the higher the point value becomes. The target starts off at 500 points, but can go all the way up to 5,000 points!

Scoring High on Toy Story Midway Mania

By following these tips and tricks, you’ll be on your way to scoring 500,000 points or more when you play Toy Story Midway Mania! If this is the goal that you’ve set for yourself, don’t feel bad if you don’t successfully reach it the first time you apply your newly learned skills. It takes practice!

When I ride this attraction, I don’t personally have a specific point goal that I care to reach. My only goal is to finish the game with more points than the person next to me. If you’re like me, these tips and tricks can certainly still help! Before knowing these techniques, I simply tried to hit the highest point targets while also hitting as many targets as possible. My strength has always been to be quick with the pull string. While you’re also scored on your accuracy, I’ve never cared how accurate my shots are. Realistically, I’ve always made a lot of shots in an attempt to hit as many targets as possible.

Do you play like this too? Or are you more interested in having a specific playing technique? If you focus a lot on your gameplay, try out the methods that I shared in this article. Your high score is sure to go To Infinity and Beyond!
