Halloween Horror Nights takes place at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood each year late August through Halloween. Universal Studios Hollywood features eight different themed haunted houses with state of the art special effects and movie scene quality experiences.

Halloween Horror Nights is the BEST Halloween event for adults and one of the most popular theme park events. The Halloween Horror Nights houses are incredible and bring some of the most popular franchises into the parks. Past houses have included hits like Stranger Things, The Last of Us, and Chucky.

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 Dates

Terror Tram Universal

Halloween Horror Nights take place at Universal Studios Hollywood September 5th through November 3rd 2024. The event also takes place at Universal Orlando August 30th through November 3rd 2024.

Both events are similar with Universal Orlando having a slight edge with more haunted houses featured. But not to be outdone, Universal Studios Hollywood has the Terror Tram! The Studio Tour trams are converted into a haunted tram experience and is one of the best experiences of the event.

The main core eight haunted houses take place at both theme parks and feature the most popular film franchises. Universal Orlando will get more unique houses which are not based on any particular film but are created by the Universal team.

So far we have three officially announced houses which include some big name blockbuster hits! We will get at least one more blockbuster announcement yet. The other remaining four houses may be houses created by the Universal team, which in my opinion are often the scariest, or even more blockbuster announcements.

Quiet Place Halloween Horror Nights House

Quiet Place Halloween Horror Nights

The first Halloween Horror Nights haunted house announced focuses on the popular horror franchises, A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II.

A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II follow the Abbott family as they try to survive the aftermath of sightless creatures with a sharp sense of hearing that draws them to prey on anything that makes the slightest noise.

This Halloween Horror Nights haunted house will mirror the silence in the films while embracing unique sound design, special effects, and will incorporate the use of American Sign Language (ASL) for the first time ever within the “A Quiet Place” haunted houses to capture the authenticity of the films.

This haunted house experiences sounds especially impressive with how Universal's creative team is incorporating the use of ASL and the aesthetic of silence from the films. I anticipate many jump scares with this one!

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Haunted House

ghostbuster halloween horror nights

The newest Ghostbusters film will also be featured in one of the Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses! Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will bring the latest installment of the franchise to life capturing both the humor and horror of the films.

This haunted house will transport fans to New York City where the Spengler family teams up with the original Ghostbusters to their top-secret research lab. Guests will experience the story of the vengeful spirit of Garraka being free and threatening to freeze everyone to death and bring about a new Ice Age.

Guests will find themselves in the world of the supernatural, from Ray’s Occult Books shop to the Ghostbuster’s new high-tech lab and containment facility to the dank New York City sewer system. Horrifying encounters include iconic ghosts who slime and nefarious villains out for revenge along with other ghastly creatures bent on “cracking bones and turning their veins into rivers of ice.”

Since the Ghostbusters is such an iconic franchise, I expect this haunted house will be quite popular and likely one of the “least” scary among the bunch and more story driven. This is a similar approach we saw last year with Stranger Things although it did still have some scary moments!

More Blumhouse Featured this Year with Insidious House

Insidious haunted house

Blumhouse has been a big part of Halloween Horror Nights the past few years due to the success of their horror franchise. This year Blumhouse returns with “Insidious: The Further” which takes guests on a haunted house adventure inspired by the Insidious film franchise.

Insidious tells the story of the Lamberts, a family that is haunted by evil supernatural forces after their son is possessed by a demonic entity. Guests will follow the same footsteps of the family and enter “The Further” which is the place where ghosts and demons lurk.

Iconic moments from the film franchise are featured as guests step through the red door, where the tormented spirits and demons from the films wait to “ensnare humans and steal their souls.” Guests will come face-to-face with The Red-Faced Demon, who will attempt to lure them into his lair; the grim KeyFace, hoping to lock his victims in this dark dimension; the ghastly and dangerous Bride in Black; and the vengeful spirit of the Man Who Can’t Breathe. Guests will go from red door to red door as they travel deeper into the astral world.

Based on this description, the Insidious house might be shaping up to be the BEST this year. The franchise of the Insidious films is full of so many fun demonic creatures and provides some of the best horror jump scares.

Blumhouse's close working relationship with Halloween Horror Nights continues to provide some of the best entertainment and this is easily the house I am most excited for this year!
