New Rides at Disneyland

Keep reading for specific details about what's new at Disneyland for 2024! Generally, this article has been updated with everything that has been announced for Disneyland but a key factor is that many announcements have been held back in anticipation of the major D23 event that will take place in August.

We anticipate that there will be major new Disneyland ride announcements that are released at that time.

Haunted Mansion Area Expansion

Construction will also be starting for the Haunted Mansion area expansion coming to Disneyland. In a previous announcement, Disney shared that the Haunted Mansion would be getting some new additions, including an expanded outdoor queue and a new retail shop adjacent to the attraction’s exit. The construction will also aim to improve the accessibility of the area and will add an elevator exit from the attraction for guests with disabilities.

The attraction itself will likely not be changed during this construction period, but the queue and surrounding area will be redesigned to improve guest flow, add new details that will “build on the story and lore” of the attraction, and add the new retail shop.

The Haunted Mansion area expansion will begin in January 2024, and a reopening date has not yet been announced. See everything you need to know about the Haunted Mansion construction in our guide.

Other Construction at Disneyland

Construction is also taking place in Downtown Disney for three new restaurants that will be opening soon. The world-famous Din Tai Fung, famous for its soup dumplings and noodles, will be opening in the near future alongside Paseo and Céntrico, which will serve Mexican cuisine by Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán in the space that used to be Catal and Uva Bar. You can see all details about these three restaurants coming to Downtown Disney in our guide!

There are many exciting events to look forward to in 2024, from the return of Pixar Fest that will feature a new Pixar daytime parade to the upcoming Disneyland After Dark nights. See the 2024 Disneyland event calendar for a full breakdown of everything to expect!

New Scenes Coming to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue!

As part of the 2024 Season of the Force celebration at Disneyland, new Star Tours – The Adventures Continue scenes will debut. It was previously announced that the fan-favorite Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano, the titular character of the show Ahsoka on Disney+, would become a part of Star Tours.

DisneylandForward

New Rides at Disneyland DisneylandForward

In 2021, Disneyland announced plans for DisneylandForward, a multi-year resort project that would be the biggest expansion since the addition of Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney. This expansion has many possibilities but could include new theme park experiences with new lands and attractions, developments to hotels, a new entertainment and shopping facility, or expansion of parking and transportation.

There has been tons of big progress on the DisneylandForward initiative. Disney has committed to spending at least $1.9 billion if the project is approved and now progress has been made with Anaheim city approvals. See all the details in our guide linked below.

It is important to note that this is not a specific expansion but just a rezoning effort. All of the plans mentioned here and seen in the concept artwork above are meant to help Disney rezone their land and don't necessarily mean that this work is happening soon. Anaheim approved specific zones for building and established certain restrictions back in 1993 that Disney wants to have altered. Disney owns land in the area to develop, but the limitations of this zoning agreement with the city are currently holding back Disney from expanding its presence in Anaheim.

You can see more details about about what has been shared for the DisneylandForward multi-year expansion in our guide!

Avatar Coming to DisneylandPandora- new rides at Disneyland

Bob Iger mentioned that a new “Avatar experience” is coming to Disneyland making this a surprising release for the new rides at Disneyland.

While discussing the success of the recent Avatar: Way of Water film that was a sequel to the popular Avatar film, Iger mentioned that a new “Avatar experience” is coming to the Disneyland Resort. That's right. He also teased other news about upcoming film sequels shared below.

Read more about Iger's comments about an Avatar experience coming to Disneyland and our speculation on what this might be!

New Multiverse Avengers Ride Coming to Avengers Campus

At the 2022 D23 Expo, it was announced that a new ride at Disney's California Adventure centered around the Multiverse would come to the Avengers Campus. Though the ride does not yet have an opening date, Disney Parks chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed some details about what we should look forward to.

In the attraction, guests will collaborate with all different versions of the Avengers from the Multiverse to defeat a variant of Thanos, one of the MCU’s most formidable antagonists. The concept art for the character shows a particularly icy-looking “King Thanos” clad with spiked armor.

During Destination D23, additional details were shared about the ride vehicles for this new ride at Disneyland.

Disney shared that the ride vehicle “combines elements of Tony Stark’s time suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology to create a vehicle that can transport heroes to remote worlds in a matter of moments.” This new vehicle combines “portal technology and flight capabilities to maneuver through the skies” so heroes can go wherever they are needed. When this Avengers ride opens, recruits will be able to “level up their training” and “join some favorite superheroes on missions to new worlds.”

Shortly after sharing this new information on the ride vehicle, Disney shared some more information about the attraction on the Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram, with the caption mentioning that the attraction would feature “physical worlds” and brought to life “with a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.” Many assumed that the ride would be screen-based, so this adds another layer of excitement that it will have physical elements as well.

Avengers Campus has been gradually adding exciting new rides since its opening in 2021. This upcoming adventure through the Multiverse alongside our favorite heroes will surely make for an exciting ride, and there will be more details to come on this future attraction.

NEW Rides at Disneyland- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is one of the brand new rides at Disneyland which opened on January 27th 2023. This new attraction is part of the larger Toontown refurbishment which is a land wide update of the nostalgic area in the parks. The attraction is the same as the one in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World but the queue experience and preshow are unique to Disneyland.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is inside El CapiTOON Theater and the queue is a walk through museum style exhibit created by Minnie Mouse and the Toontown Hysterical Society celebrating the history of Mickey Mouse. Guests will see the history of all the Mickey Mouse cartoons showcased through costumes and props from the toon world. There are tons of hidden Easter eggs for Disney fans in here that it makes the queue experience one of the best in the parks.

This attraction is one of the most popular new rides at Disneyland and is currently using a virtual queue along with a PAID Genie+ option. You can read all about how to experience this new attraction in our Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway virtual queue guide.

New San Fransokyo Square

new rides at Disneyland San Fransokyo Square opening

Pacific Wharf has been reimagined into San Fransokyo Square, the “vibrant, multicultural district” that melds San Francisco and Tokyo together, inspired by the Big Hero 6 movie. Though San Fransokyo Square will not have any new rides, it features a redesigned dining area, a character meet-and-greet, and a vibrant new aesthetic.

The construction of the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge is nearly complete, and the dazzling orange vermillion is painted on the bridge connecting San Fransokyo Square to the Paradise Gardens Park obelisk.

Guests also have the opportunity to meet Baymax at a meet-and-greet area located at the south end of San Fransokyo Square! Make sure to stop by and give this beloved character a hug. You can treat yourself to familiar and new dining locations, including new Asian-inspired foods and the mainstay soup and bread bowls. See our full guide to new foods coming to the Big Hero 6 San Fransokyo Square area for more details!

New Rides at Disneyland – Tiana's Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain Retheme

Tiana's Bayou Adventure is the new version of the Splash Mountain coming to Disneyland later in 2024.

This new ride theme will entirely transform the attraction inspired by the film “Princess and the Frog.” The story of Tiana's Bayou Adventure will pick up after the film ending, and guests will join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance. The queue will introduce guests to behind the scenes of Tiana's preparations to the Mardi Gras celebration as she and the characters from “Princess and the Frog” attempt to finding a missing party ingredient.

You can read more about the logistics of the Splash Mountain retheme here and details on the new attraction in our guide to Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Here are our thoughts on when Splash Mountain will reopen as this new Disneyland ride.

There is no official opening date announced yet to add to our new rides at Disneyland list. All we know now is that Disney recently used the language “later in 2024” to describe when Disneyland's opening of the attraction would be.

Splash Mountain closed permanently on May 31, 2023 to build this new Disneyland ride.

New Rides at Disneyland- Toontown's NEW Look

Disneyland's Toontown received a full imagining and is now open. Toontown's new look includes a transformation to move away from a concrete layout to a natural, grassy and shaded look. Goofy and Donald Duck's houses have both received large refurbishments which include more open space to play, a splash pad, and more. This retheme also includes a brand new tree that children can play on along with an interactive fountain.

For all the information on Toontown's new look at Disneyland, read our guide on the Disneyland Toontown refresh.

NEW Restaurant Tiana's Palace

Tiana's Palace is the replacement theme for French Market Restaurant in New Orleans Square. This new retheme is now OPEN in anticipation of Tiana's Bayou Adventure (retheme of Splash Mountain) in 2024, which is one of the most anticipated new rides at Disneyland! Read more about the new Tiana's Palace restaurant at Disneyland, including a review of the food items on the new menu.

This reimagining of the French Market Restaurant to Tiana's Palace will feature the same flair and look of the restaurant from the film. The new restaurant will serve authentic New Orleans food and remain a quick-service style restaurant. This isn't going to be a character dining experience but we will likely begin to see more of Tiana roaming New Orleans Square.

New Parades at Disneyland!

Magic Happens was a new parade that debuted in March 2020 and only ran for two weeks before Disneyland closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, I consider this parade to fall in that ‘brand new’ category and we were excited to see it return to Disneyland for the Disney100 celebration. Magic Happens features a song written by Todrick Hall and performed by Jordan Fisher created just for the parade! This parade includes a mixture of floats of classic and new Disney characters making it a great combination of Disney favorites.

new Pixar Fest parade float

After the Magic Happens parade run ended last year, Disney did say that the Magic Happens parade “will return at a later date,” though details of that date have not yet been announced. In 2024, you can look forward to a new daytime parade coming to Disney California Adventure as part of Pixar Fest! The parade will feature Pixar characters. Disney specifically shared a look at the new “Turning Red” float that is coming with this new Disney attraction.

See how to get the best parade spot with minimal wait in our Disneyland parade guide 2024.
