Dining Policy Changes in Response to COVID-19
Walt Disney World has put in place temporary dining policies to protect the health of guests and cast members since they've reopened last year in July 2020. It's uncertain how long these policies will be in place but we recommend planning with these policies in place if you plan on traveling to Disney World in 2021.
Here are some of the major policy changes in regards to dining:
- Character dining experiences are modified with characters remaining distant from guests.
- Dining packages are not being offered- in response to the limitation on entertainment and nighttime spectaculars not being initially offered
- Restaurants are operating in limited capacity and some locations remain temporarily closed
- Private dining and room delivery aren't offered during the first phase of reopening
- Mobile ordering will continue to be offered and expanded to include more dining locations as Disney encourages touchless payment methods.
- Dining plans are currently suspended
- Dining reservations do not guarantee park entrance- you will still be required to have a park ticket and a park pass reservation
- The booking window has been temporarily changes to 60 days in advance for making dining reservations.
- Increased cleaning in high traffic areas of restaurants and spaced seating areas to accommodate social distancing.
- Items that used to be self-serve will now be served by cast members.
- For quick-service restaurants menus will be displayed on the signs. For table-service restaurants there will be the option to scan a QR code with your phone to access a digital menu. Disposable paper menus will be available at most restaurants too.
Quick-service restaurants will continue to rely on menu signage for guests. You can also read all the restaurant menus on the Walt Disney World app!
We will keep this portion updated as things change during the first phase of Disney World's reopening. We recommend consulting a cast member when making your dining reservations to verify which dining options will be available during your park visit.

Reserving Dining at Walt Disney World
Guests of Disney Resort Hotels (including Disney Vacation Club Guests) can enjoy an extended window for making dining reservations. Starting 60 days in advance of your arrival date, you can book dining for the entire length of your Resort stay—up to 10 days.
For guests not staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, will need to book each day at the 60 day mark.
You can make dining reservations online or by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call. If you miss out and don't find a reservation, I recommend trying Mouse Watcher which will search relentlessly for a variety of days/times for your chosen restaurant for $5 per restaurant search. While many free services like this exist, I've found this one to be the most successful.

Saving Money on Dining at Walt Disney World
If you're looking to save money at the parks, cutting down on food costs is one of the best ways to do it. The cost of food during a Walt Disney World vacation adds up quickly! Our cheap food guide to Walt Disney World is a great place to start to finding cheap and delicious food!
Here are some tips to help you cut down on cost during your dining experiences:
- Eat mainly at quick-service restaurants- these will be more affordable than table service restaurants and you don't have to worry about gratuity.
- Pack snacks and/or a lunch. You are allowed to bring in food into the Walt Disney World parks so take advantage and pack as much as you can! Even packing one meal can save a family of four more than $50.
- Eat breakfast before you come at your hotel. Every meal eaten outside of the parks saves money for when you're there!
- Order menu options a la carte if you don't think your family will eat the sides that come with it.
- Consider sharing larger portions between two people before ordering individually- depending on the quick-service option these portions can be pretty big!
- Only consider a dining plan if you've done the math and think you will save money in the long run. It's far too common to see people on the last evening of their stay trying to use up all their food vouchers.

One of the best ways to save time at Walt Disney World is to take advantage of mobile ordering options to avoid waiting in long lines for food. With mobile ordering at Disney World you will cut your time spent in lines by half or more.
