How Much Does Food Cost at Disney World?

Because I go to Walt Disney World so often, one question I constantly get asked is “how do you deal with the cost of food at Disney World?”

At Walt Disney World, you literally have a world of dining options to choose from. Snack carts, quick-service restaurants, table-service restaurants, bars and lounges – there’s never enough time to sample everything.

And with so many food options, one can’t help but think about cost. No doubt – food at Walt Disney World can cost you a pretty penny. It’s easy to go overboard and go home wondering where your last paycheck went. But it’s also easy to plan and budget out your food spending to keep your wallet in 1 piece at the end of your vacation!

Here is your guide to budgeting for the cost of food on your Walt Disney World vacation.

Disney World Food Prices

Fruit Waffle in front of Castle

At Walt Disney World, it’s not uncommon to spend $50 per day, per person on food.

And for a family of 4, that adds up to $200 per day. Multiply that by a 7-day stay at Walt Disney World, and you’ve got… a lot of money missing from your wallet.

That’s just on $50 though!

If you ask around, guests more commonly spend upwards of $80 or even well over $100 per day depending on which theme park they visit, who they’re with, and the time of the year! This doesn’t even take into account dining at table service restaurants, where the cost can skyrocket.

Let’s break down the average cost of different types of food options at Walt Disney World.

Average Food Cost at Disney World

Spaceship Earth

Food at Walt Disney World can be broken down into 3 general categories: snacks, Quick Service meals, and Table Service meals. Let’s go over the average cost of each of these meal categories.

Snacks Cost an Average of $5-$6

Soft Serve at DIsney World

While this category is straight forward, there’s a lot of variety in the cost of snacks at Walt Disney World.

The most obvious snacks at Walt Disney World are found at food carts scattered across the theme parks: these usually include Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars, Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches, Mickey Pretzels, and popcorn – all of which go for between $5-$6.

Although they’re becoming more rare every year, there are snack options that fall under the $5. For example, a full baguette goes for $3.95 and a croissant goes for $3.25 at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in EPCOT.

Of course, there are also snack options that go well above the $6. Take for instance the fresh fruit waffle sandwich at $8.49 from Sleepy Hollow or a caramel apple at $12.99 from the Main Street Confectionary.

When averaged out, plan to spend $5-$6 per snack.

Food at Quick Service Restaurants Cost an Average of $18 per Adult and $11 per Child

 Flame Tree Barbecue

With a few exceptions, the beauty of Quick Service Restaurants is that they all have similar prices.

Quick Service Restaurants give guests less expensive dining options and work really well for families on the go. In fact, there are over 100 Quick Service dining options throughout Walt Disney World, including Disney Springs, the Disney Resort hotels, the water parks, and theme parks.

Being the most convenient way to dine at Walt Disney World, most Quick Service Restaurants serve American foods like hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, pizza, salads, and usually 1 vegetarian or vegan option. There’s also a handful of Quick Service Restaurants with international cuisine.

Expect to pay around $12 for a burger and fries, $10 for a personal pizza, $13 for a chicken, beef, or seafood plate, and $12 for a salad. For the younger ones, expect meals to cost around $8.

When budgeting, make sure to add on $5 for a non-alcoholic fountain beverage or $3 for milk or juice. Keep in mind that this doesn’t factor desserts which usually go for $6 and side dishes which usually go for $5.

All-in-all, expect to pay on average $18 per meal for adults and $11 per meal for children.

Table Service Restaurants can be Broken Down Into 4 Categories

Boathouse at Disney Springs

Table Service Restaurants are usually 1 of the following: Casual Table Service, Signature Dining Table Service, Buffet-Style Table Service, and Character Dining Table Service.

The factor that complicates prices at Table Service Restaurants at Walt Disney World is that the types of Table Service Restaurants vary. Because restaurant types vary, their prices vary with them.

Regardless, the Table Service Restaurants differ from Quick Service Restaurants in 4 ways (besides the higher price):

  1. They’re full-service, meaning servers take your order and serve your food while you sit
  2. They offer higher-end food, drink, and dessert options
  3. They usually have more elaborate theming
  4. Advanced Dining Reservations are usually recommended, but walk-up reservations are still possible

Of course, expect to have Disney’s wonderful customer service, just like at any other restaurant on Walt Disney World property.

Food at Casual Table Service Restaurants Cost an Average of $27 per Adult and $13 per Child*

Sci Fi Dine In tom and jerry banner

*These prices are for non-Signature Dining, non-Buffet-Style, and non-Character Dining restaurants.

Take for example, a lunchtime meal at Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which serves pan-Asian food in a Nepalese-style atmosphere. Here, reservations are recommended, especially since this restaurant is more popular compared to others. The lunch menu usually costs the same as the dinner menu, with a typical meal costing $27 for adults and $12 for children.

For non-Signature Dining, non-Buffet-Style, and non-Character Dining restaurants, expect pricing to be identical for lunch and dinner meals.

Food at Signature Dining Restaurants Cost $50 and up per Guest

Topolino’s Terrace

Disney’s Signature Dining Restaurants take the food quality, theming, and service of Table Service Dining and bring them to a whole new level.

And along with it, its price!

After dining at several Signature Dining Restaurants across Walt Disney World property, I can say how incredible your dining experience can be. One of my all-time favorite Signature Dining Restaurants is Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort. Situated at the top floor of this Deluxe Resort, Topolino’s Terrace offers magnificent views of the Walt Disney World, including EPCOT’s World Showcase. Having dined here multiple times, I haven’t had a meal that was less than excellent – and the service from every Cast Member was top-notch! See our full Topolino's Terrace review for everything you need to know.

All-in-all, there are Signature Dining locations at most Disney deluxe Resorts and at least 1 at each of the 4 Disney theme parks.

Expect entrees at Signature Dining Restaurants to cost $30 – $60, appetizers to cost $13-$18, and desserts to cost $10-$16. Beer at these restaurants normally cost $9 and wine or a cocktail cost about $18. With an entrée and dessert alone, you can see how your meal easily reaches $50.

There are exceptions to this of course. Take Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, where guests choose dine from a prix fixe menu, with prices starting at $295 per adult. However, with the more elevated price comes a more elevated experience, and how could you expect less than the best from a AAA Five Diamond Award-winning restaurant?

Signature Dining Restaurants, although pricier, can truly elevate your Walt Disney World experience.

Food at Buffet-Style Restaurants Cost an Average of $50-$60 per Adult and $30-$40 per Child

Boma African meal buffet

Buffet-Style or “all-you-care-to-eat” restaurants are great option for guests who want more variety out of their meals or for families who have some picky eaters.

These restaurants come with a set price and allow guests to sample all sorts of different foods, with the cuisine depending on the restaurant’s theme. Across Walt Disney World resort, guests have a variety of cuisine to choose from. For example, Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom serves Thanksgiving-style meals, Boma at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge serves African-style, meals, and Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort offers American-style meals.

Expect breakfast, lunch and dinner to cost $50-$60 per adult and $30-$40 per child. These prices do include fountain drinks, coffee, and tea, while alcoholic beverages cost an additional fee. While there are those who argue that most Buffet-Style restaurants on Walt Disney World property don’t have food that make the cost worth it, I firmly believe each of these restaurants offer something that will make the cost you pay worth it – between the food or the character experiences.

All-in-all, Buffet-Style restaurants are certainly pricier than Quick-Service Restaurants, but do offer a lot more.

Food at Character-Dining Restaurants Cost an Average of $50-$60 per Adult and $30-$40 per Child

Topolino’s Breakfast

Disney Character Dining experiences offer Disney’s Table Service Restaurant quality with the added excitement of meeting your favorite Disney characters.

There are different types of Table Service Restaurants that offer Character Dining experiences. For example, Tusker House Restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom allows you to meet Donald Duck and his pals while dining in an African-style “all-you-care-to-eat” restaurant. On the other hand, Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort allows you to choose your own entrée.

Expect breakfast to cost $50-$60 per adult and $30-$40 per child. Of course, certain restaurants cost more, like Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom, which can cost as high as $84 per adult and $49 per child.

As mentioned earlier, the food at some Buffet-Style restaurants may not have the best cuisine to experience, but the ability to meet your favorite Disney characters makes their cost worth it. On the other hand, there are Character Dining Restaurants that offer great food, such as Tusker House Restaurant or ‘Ohana Breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.

My take? Everyone should do at least one Character Dining experience at Walt Disney World. Check out our list of Walt Disney World Restaurant and Dining Guide to find which restaurant is best for you!

Food at EPCOT Festival Booths Cost an Average of $7 per Food Item

Flower and Garden

Did you truly visit EPCOT if you didn’t go during an EPCOT festival?

EPCOT has graced its guests with seasonal festivals since the first Flower and Garden Festival in 1995. When the first EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival was held in the same year, the food kiosks were truly unleashed. Now with 4 festivals during the year and very little time in between festivals, EPCOT boasts so much to experience – and so much to eat!

With kiosks generally all around World Showcase Lagoon, food from these locations usually come in small-sized portions – not full meals. This makes them great for sampling a variety of different types of food and beverages “around the world.” This also makes them some of the most budget-friendly food options for guests looking to save some money.

Expect savory menu items to cost $8, sweet items to cost $6, non-alcoholic beverages to cost $5, beer and wine to cost $9, and cocktails to cost $14.

Personally, for my tummy to feel satisfied on EPCOT Festival food, I’d need around 2 plates of food. Toss in 1 beer, and you’ve got a full meal for about $22. That’s just a little more expensive than a meal at a Quick Service Restaurant – and you get a little more variety!

My take: Bring a few of your favorite snacks from home, eat “around the world” at EPCOT, and you’ve got yourself a satisfying, budget-friendly day at Walt Disney World.

Drinks at Walt Disney World Cost an Average of $5 (Non-Alcoholic) and $12 (Alcoholic)

Narcoossee’s menu

Let’s talk about drinking at Walt Disney World.

With increasing prices, don’t forget to factor drinks into your food budget. We’re talking soda, coffee, assorted beverages, and of course, beer, wine, and cocktails. Here’s an average of beverage prices across the Walt Disney World Resort:

  • Soda bottles: $5
  • Assorted Fountain Beverages: $4.50
  • Orange Juice: $5
  • Chocolate Milk: $4
  • Apple Juice: $4
  • Hot Cocoa: $4
  • Coffee: $4 for brewed coffee, $6.50 for specialty coffee
  • Specialty Drinks (non-alcoholic): $5
  • Beer: $8-$10
  • Wine: $13
  • Cocktails: $12 (Quick Service Restaurants), $16 (Table Service Restaurants)

While non-alcoholic drink prices are pretty much set around Walt Disney World property, the cost of specialty drinks and alcoholic beverages can vary. Generally, alcoholic beverages at Quick Services Restaurants are cheaper than those at Table Service Restaurants, with some cocktails costing as much as $22 at Signature Dining Restaurants and their connected bars.

Of course, there are ways to save a little money on drinks at Walt Disney World.

The Resort Refillable Mug at Walt Disney World Resort hotels is great for fountain drinks, coffee, and tea purchased at any resort hotel, but keep in mind that guests can’t refill these mugs inside the theme parks. Additionally, for those who aren’t too keen on drinking soda, juices, or alcoholic beverages, there are plenty of water bottle stations to refill your water bottles for free.

In the end, how much to budget for drinks depends on your preferences.

Plan to Spend $200-$300 per Day for a Family of Four

Magic Kingdom

Before you comment furiously on this estimate, let’s break it down.

Let’s assume that on any given day during their vacation, a family of 2 adults and 2 children are dining at 1 Quick Service Restaurant, 1 Table Service Restaurant (let’s make it a Character Dining experience – you know, for the kids), and purchasing 1 round of snacks and drinks. And I like to assume that the parents will want 1 alcoholic beverage that day. Here’s what the cost breakdown looks like:

Quick Service Restaurant: ($18 x 2) + ($11 x 2) = $58
Character Dining Restaurant: ($50 x 2) + ($30 x 2) = $160
Snacks: $5 x 4 = $20
Non-Alcoholic Drinks: $5 x 4 = $20
Alcoholic Beverage: $12 x 2 = $24

TOTAL: $282

Remember, this total takes from the average cost of food and drink across the different types of restaurants across Walt Disney World property. Some restaurants will cost more and some will cost slightly less. Some drinks and snacks will cost more and some will cost less.

I should point out that breakfast wasn’t included in this estimate – a cost that could easily add $20 – $70 to your total depending on where you go. And don’t forget to add gratuity on top of this estimate!

Remember though, your food budget should be very personal, catering to you and your group’s needs.

Now Back for 2024: The Disney Dining Plan

Hollywood Studios

Given that rough estimate for a family of 4, the Disney Dining Plan should be something to consider.

Budgeting Tips: Plan Then Save OR Budget Then Plan

Animal Kingdom Tree of Life

When planning a budget around any vacation, there’s 2 strategies to consider:

  • Plan Then Save: This is where you estimate and price things out far in advance so you have a clear number to save up for. This strategy works really well when you have time to save the money. Note: With this strategy, we recommend adding 5% extra to your total as a cushion
  • Budget Then Plan: If you already have a set amount of money saved or your vacation is coming up really soon, then you plan around that budget

Using the average prices on food we mentioned above will help give you an estimate on how much to spend, depending on how many Quick Service or Table Service Restaurants you want to visit.

Regardless, the key takeaway here is to have an estimate of how much you plan to spend on food during your vacation.
