Wreck-It-Ralph Replacing Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland at International Park

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters is a popular attraction for families at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This Toy Story themed attraction is a big draw in Tomorrowland for both of these theme parks. Tokyo Disneyland also has this attraction and is going to be the first to move in a different direction!

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters is an arcade style shooting attraction in a blacklight themed space where guests can take on The Evil Emperor Zurg. Guests score points throughout the ride and can try to beat the daily high score.

Tokyo Disneyland made a surprising announcement to replace the popular Buzz Lightyear theme with Wreck-It-Ralph which leads us to wonder, could this change come to Disneyland or Walt Disney World?

Tokyo Disneyland Announces First Wreck-It-Ralph Attraction

Tokyo Disneyland announced that they will be replacing Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters with a Wreck-It-Ralph theme.

Rather than being a shooting game based on the world of Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg, this attraction will take guests into the world of Sugar Rush from the film. Sugar Rush is the arcade game that Vanellope Von Schweetz races in when Ralph meets her for the first time. The concept art shared by Tokyo Disneyland focuses on the Sugar Rush theme but it's likely we could see other games featured in the film showcased in the ride too.

This new Wreck-It-Ralph theme will replace Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters in Tokyo Disneyland in 2026.

Is Wreck-It-Ralph Coming to Disneyland & Walt Disney World?Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters secret target

There have been rumors for awhile of Wreck-It-Ralph replacing the now closed Stitch's Great Escape! at Walt Disney World. But this is just one movie out of many that have been rumored over the years to overtake that now closed attraction. So far, nothing has come to fruition there.

Since both Disneyland and Walt Disney World have their own versions of the same Buzz Lightyear arcade style attraction, it's only natural to wonder if we could see this Wreck-It-Ralph retheme come to our parks.

It's pretty unlikely we would see this change come to either US park soon as the budgets for Tokyo Disneyland and the US parks are very different. Tokyo Disneyland is owned by the Oriental Land Company which operates under a licensing agreement from The Walt Disney Company. The owners of Tokyo Disneyland tend to be a lot more generous with their attraction budgets and have different goals than our US based parks. Since the management here is different, it's not always likely to see something happen at Disneyland or Walt Disney World just because it's happening at Tokyo Disneyland.

Personally, I would love to see this change at least come to the Walt Disney World version of Buzz Lightyear. That attraction is heavily overdue for a refurbishment and there already is a Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios. Does Walt Disney World really need THAT many Toy Story rides?

Bringing the Wreck-It-Ralph re-theme to that ride would help bring some more life into Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World has already seen a lot of improvement with the opening of TRON but this would be a chance to reimagine an attraction for all ages with a brighter, updated theme.

But for now, there is no official reason to think Wreck-It-Ralph is replacing Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. Although, I really wish it would.
