Disneyland Just Changed One Of Our Favorite Sweet Treats And It Might Be Time to Move On

Disneyland is home to so many different park treats for guests to enjoy. Between several iconic Disneyland foods and some of the best Disneyland desserts, there are several items that have become fan-favorites.

In particular, we love Jolly Holiday Bakery for easy-to-access mobile order food items. Jolly Holiday Bakery is hands-down one of the best Disneyland restaurants that is home to some of our favorite food items as well as some really fun seasonal treats.

Recently, we were alerted to the fact that one of our top recommended desserts (or afternoon snacks depending on who is asking) had a key ingredient changed. Keep reading for what changed and our thoughts!

Disneyland Changes Fan-Favorite Treat

Jolly Holiday macaron

The Disneyland macarons are a top treat for us. Recently Disneyland has experimented with different types of macarons including Mickey-shaped ones at the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival, a carmel-based one coming to the Pixar Fest food booths, and even one shaped like the Green Aliens from Toy Story also for Pixar Fest.

These are all great, but we always go back to the original favorite macaron, the raspberry Mickey macaron at Jolly Holiday Bakery. This treat is a perfect combination of fresh raspberries, creamy filling, and a soft outer layer cookie that melts in your mouth.

We were recently alerted by Liz @chimchimchurro on Twitter that this macaron had changed and so I had to dive in to investigate for myself.

I immediately mobile ordered a raspberry macaron and headed into the parks. My biggest fear when I heard that any changes were made to the sweet treat was that the amount of raspberries had been reduced. Thankfully it was just the filling that had been changed and the fresh raspberries remain.

The new filling is clumpier and less smooth. It doesn't squish out when you push down on the cookie and instead feels closer to the oreo cream-type filling or harder fondant. It just generally tastes more like super market icing than a rich creamy filling. You can see the difference by comparing the bellow photo to the top one.

The filling change doesn't completely ruin this treat but it does drop it lower on my list of best treat offerings at the parks. As this is likely just a formulation change and not necessarily about reducing costs – we would have fewer fresh berries if it was about costs – maybe they'll make a switch back.

I wanted to share this post quickly to give a general PSA that your favorite snack may not be quite the same during this next trip to Disneyland.

You may want to use this as an excuse to move on and try the new Pixar Fest Gusteau Macaron which features crème brûlée mousse with caramel center. We tried it during a media preview and it was delicious. A perfect caramel blend that brings out the crème brûlée taste. No fresh berries here which is a mark down from the raspberry treat, but it is still very good.

This treat is available starting May 10th when the new Pixar Fest food booths arrive. Don't miss getting our FREE Pixar Fest downloadable food guide here.
