INSIDE the New $2 Billion Disney Expansion to Add Frozen, Tangled, Peter Pan

We have all the details on the 2 billion dollar Disney theme park expansion to create the worlds of Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan with four brand new attractions PLUS the opening date! This new land Fantasy Springs will include four brand new attractions from these popular Disney films with one each for Frozen and Tangled and two for Peter Pan. There will also be three brand-new restaurants, a gift shop, and hotel looking into the area.

Fantasy Springs will lead guests towards a land of Disney fantasy which includes Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan. This magical spring will be dedicated to these three films in separate “mini lands” within the larger Fantasy Springs area. These are some of the most iconic Disney films and this recent project is shaping up to look pretty magical!

Our guide covers all the details about the attractions, dining locations, and more at Fantasy Springs. Scroll down for all the NEW photos from the three main attractions including the new Tangled boat ride!

Disney Fantasy Springs Inspiration For Disneyland

Though this expansion is slated for Tokyo DisneySea, it could have an impact on Disneyland in California in the future. Currently, Disneyland is in the middle of a re-zoning effort called DisneylandForward which would allow for further theme park expansion at the Disneyland Resort.

The proposal for DisneylandForward (see link above) suggests that this Tokyo DisneySea expansion could be the perfect inspiration for expansion in Disneyland. Now keep in mind the keyword here is “inspiration” so that does not mean we will see these rides or areas replicated in Disneyland necessarily. But it is a welcoming sign that Disneyland is looking at this expansion as a potential inspiration as this is really a breathtaking addition to Tokyo DisneySea. In fact, if we compare the way this expansion is being treated at Tokyo DisneySea we can see similarities in how construction expansions could happen at Disneyland.

Fantasy Springs Expansion

Much the way that the DisneylandForward rezoning would open up new expansion areas in a parking lot outside the berm of the existing two Disneyland Resort theme parks (again, click link for map at Disneyland), the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs expansion is an add-on expansion at Tokyo DisneySea that places the expansion in an old parking lot. The land is almost completely outside the footprint of the existing Tokyo DisneySea park and is basically being bolted on via the transitional entranceway. Again, this is very similar to how the expansion will likely function at Disneyland Resort if approved.

Of course, we would love to see any of these actual attractions coming to Fantasy Springs come to Disneyland (especially that Tangled boat ride!) but that is all purely based on hopes and dreams at this point.

Now, let's dive into what this new Fantasy Springs expansion at Tokyo DisneySea will actually look like.

Fantasy Springs Opening DateFantasy Springs Tokyo DisneySea

Fantasy Springs, the newest themed port at Tokyo DisneySea, will open on June 6, 2024! This would be a great time to plan that Tokyo DisneySea trip. This is a later date than the previous Spring 2024 opening timeline they provided.

Tokyo Disney Resort announced that to visit Fantasy Springs and experience the land, guests will need to obtain a Standby Pass or purchase Disney Premier Access. This process is similar to the way the virtual queue and Genie+ work for new attractions in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Tokyo Disney is famous for its detailed and dedicated theme park attractions and hotels. Oriental Land Company operates Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea and is known for pumping a significant amount of money into their theme parks. This is a massive theme park expansion as the project will cost just over $2 billion. These large budgets, which are common for Tokyo Disney, are one of the reasons Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea should be on every Disney Parks fan's top vacation list.

The story of the new Disney Fantasy Springs land is that a magical spring leads guests towards a land of Disney fantasy which includes three areas: Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel's Forest (Tangled), and Peter Pan's Never Land. This new port will include four new rides, three restaurants, and a new gift shop. There will also be a brand new Disney-themed hotel called the DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel.

At the Fantasy Springs entryway, there will be an archway with magical springs representing beloved Disney Animation characters featured in the areas like Peter Pan, Anna, Elsa, and Rapunzel.

The port will also feature motifs of other beloved Disney characters as well.

Further details have been released about the brand new four attractions coming to Disney Fantasy Springs. At the 2022 D23 Expo, guests were able to view preview posters of the rides along with models of the ride vehicles but no official names were announced quite yet.

We now know the official ride names:

  • Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey
  • Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival
  • Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure
  • Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies

Tokyo Disney Ride Vehicles

Based on the ride vehicles, three of these new attractions are all boat-style rides, which fits in nicely with the Tokyo DisneySea theme. Below, we will break down more details about these new attractions and dining locations in each of the themed areas.

Peter Pan AreaDisney Fantasy Springs

The Peter Pan area of Disney Fantasy Springs, called Peter Pan's Never Land, will include two attractions: Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure and Fairy Tinker Bell's Busy Buggies. There will also be a new restaurant inspired by the Peter Pan Lost Boys and their hideout called Lookout Cookout, created by the Lost Kids.

Here is a look at Skull Rock in Peter Pan's Never Land below:

We also got a new look at the dining location that will be featured in Peter Pan's Never Land: Lookout Cookout. This counter service restaurant is a hideout that was created by the Lost Kids from parts of a shipwreck that had washed ashore in Never Land. Inside the restaurant, guests will find items from the Lost Kids like pajamas and hammocks.

Lookout Cookout

The foods here are also inspired by the Lost Kids, with foods like the Lost Kids’ Snack Box with chicken tenders, seaweed fritters, banana chips and shrimp chips.

Guests can also enjoy a “Pixie Dust Soda (Kiwi)” that comes with a star-shaped topping that dissolves into the drink and makes a sparkling effect inspired by Tinker Bell’s pixie dust.

There will also be a Popcorn Wagon in Peter Pan's Never Land that will offer roast beef flavored popcorn. The Popcorn Wagon will resemble a boat pieced together with colorful slabs of wood.

Frozen AreaFrozen Land and Castle

The Frozen area of Disney Fantasy Springs, called Frozen Kingdom, will basically be a replica of Arendelle including a new restaurant and the Arendelle Castle at the foot of the mountains. We'd love to see one of these new attractions added to Fantasyland at Disneyland as a new ride at Disneyland. The area is likely similar to the new World of Frozen area coming to Hong Kong Disneyland.

It looks like construction of Arendelle is making great progress from what we saw in the sneak peek video!

Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey is the new boat ride coming to this area that features the story of Elsa and Anna after the first film ends. Frozen Kingdom will also have two dining locations: the Royal Banquet of Arendelle and Oaken's OK Foods.

The buildings will feature rosemaling (decorative Norwegian folk art) embellishments and ice-inspired geometric designs.

Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey

Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey will take guests on a boat adventure through the events of the Frozen story.

Guests will encounter Grand Pabbie, the leader of the trolls from the film, as he tells the story of Anna and Elsa to two young trolls and brings the sisters' childhood memories back to life.

Guests will then travel through the sisters' memories, hearing iconic songs from the movie along the way like “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” “For the First Time in Forever,” “Love Is an Open Door,” and “Let It Go.”

The ride will also feature notable villains and moments from the films.

And familiar favorites like Kristoff and Sven!

The animatronics look stunning!

The climax of Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey is when Anna turns into ice to save Elsa from Hans.

Frozen Land Dining

Guests will be able to dine inside the Arendelle Castle at the counter-service restaurant The Royal Banquet of Arendelle. Anna and Elsa have invited visitors inside the castle to enjoy a celebratory banquet.

The Royal Banquet of Arendelle

Inside, there will be books and artwork of Frozen characters and also several paintings that you see in the film during the song “For the First Time in Forever.”

Guests can enjoy their food in the great hall, where Elsa's coronation takes place in the film.

Offerings include “Arendelle's Royal Set,” a meal including several dishes from appetizers to dessert served to guests in a basket.

Arendelle's Royal Set

Guests can also enjoy Oaken's OK Foods, operated by Oaken who owns the cabin and sauna you see in the Frozen film. Here, you can enjoy “Oaken's Yoo-Hoo Bread (Cardamom & Meat),” a variation on the cardamom rolls, a Scandinavian specialty.

Tangled Area
Tangled Land

The Tangled area of Disney Fantasy Springs, called Rapunzel's Forest, will include the attraction Rapunzel's Lantern Festival and a restaurant inspired by the Snuggly Duckling tavern from the film where Rapunzel first encountered all the ruffians.

There is a similar restaurant to this called the Tangled Tree Tavern in Shanghai Disneyland so it will likely draw inspiration from that existing restaurant.

Here is a look at Rapunzel's Forest:

You can see an up close look at Rapunzel's tower featured in the land with Rapunzel gazing out:

Rapunzel's Lantern Festival

Rapunzel's Lantern Festival is a boat ride where guests board gondolas to experience Rapunzel's tour of the land with Flynn to the Lantern Festival.

Here is the attraction sign lit up at night!

This is just stunning! This is what guests will see when they first begin the ride.

Guests will follow the story of Rapunzel on her “best day ever,” starting with her looking out of the tower singing “When Will My Life Begin,” then she escapes with Flynn and visits various locations seen in the film.

These stills from the ride look right out of the film, it's hard to believe it's of the attraction.

And of course, the Snuggly Duckling is featured!

The Tangled ride will also include Flynn Rider and Max.

Pascal is included too! The details are breathtaking.

Some of the most notable scenes from the film are included.

The end of the ride will include experiencing the full lantern festival, like in the film!

Rapunzel and Flynn sing that iconic “I See the Light” song from the movie Tangled in this scene. This ride might now be on my #1 to do list, this is one of the most beloved Disney movies and I'm so happy to see it get its own ride.

Tangled Land Dining

The Snuggly Duckling counter-service restaurant is inspired by the location where Rapunzel encounters and befriends the ruffians of the film. Outside, you'll find the iconic Snuggly Duckling sign:

Inside, you'll find sights from the film brought to life, recreating locations like the tavern and stable.

The decor depicts the happily-ever-after stories of the ruffians from the film. At The Snuggly Duckling, guests can enjoy options like the “Duckling’s Dream Cheeseburger,” which features a juicy patty and sausage sandwiched between a yellow duck-colored bun.

Guests can also try the “Sweet Ever After Dessert (Lemon and Strawberry),” which is inspired by Rapunzel’s line from the movie, “And we’re living happily ever after.” The dessert is served in a frying pan-shaped container.

New Fantasy Springs Sneak Peek Video

In a new YouTube video, Walt Disney Imagineering gives us a sneak peek look at Fantasy Springs and each of its areas. It looks like they are making amazing progress with everything that is shared in the video.

You can also see a video tweeted by Scott Gustin that shows a great comparison between scenes from Disney movies and the locations inspired by them at Fantasy Springs.

Fantasy Springs HotelNew Tokyo Disney Hotel

There will also be a brand new hotel built which will be the sixth built for the Tokyo Disney theme parks. The Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel will be located adjacent to the Fantasy Springs land. The hotel will have two buildings: Fantasy Chateau, a deluxe type, and Grand Chateau, a luxury type which will offer the finest accommodations at the resort. The interior of the hotel is inspired by Disney Princesses, flora, and fauna with motifs of the themed port.

The Fantasy Chateau (Deluxe Type) will have motifs inspired by the nature and wildlife of Fantasy Springs and will have 419 guest rooms. See the concept artwork for the Fantasy Chateau exterior below:

The hotels at Tokyo Disney are already pretty impressive when it comes to immersion and detail, so I cannot wait to see what they do with this new Disney Fantasy Springs-inspired hotel.

There will also be a few dining locations offered. The Fantasy Springs Restaurant will offer buffet style breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the first floor of Fantasy Chateau. The restaurant will be themed to Disney Animation films like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Tangled, and Sleeping Beauty, with paintings of blue birds and forest animals celebrating nature in the films.

At the Grand Paradis Lounge, located on the second floor of the grand lobby between Fantasy Chateau and Grand Chateau, guests can enjoy an elegant ambience with a panoramic window on the Fantasy Springs side.

La Libellule is a French dining table service restaurant that is only available to guests staying at the Grand Chateau, located on the third floor of the Grand Chateau. It will offer a fine dining experience with crystal chandelier. For breakfast, guests can choose a hot main dish, then other dishes will be served buffet style. For dinner, guests will enjoy authentic French cuisine with table service. Private rooms with Disney character greetings will also be available. See the concept art for La Libellule below:

  1. Thank you so much for writing about this, too! I am going to Tokyo, Disneyland in Disney Sea at the end of May and I’m really hoping will be able to have some soft opening access, especially as we’re staying on property. I would be thrilled and honored to share pictures, and Reviews and all that sort of thing although I’ll have to brush up on my English skills as I was a feeder Major!
