One Big Thing – Details on Millennium Falcon Ride New Story, Avengers Campus Rides, and Fantastic 4 Characters!

This weekend, we got a lot of news from a Disney panel at the SXSW Conference, including a look at an exciting new look at some upcoming Disneyland rides and experiences!

We received some new details for the Mandalorian and Grogu storyline coming to the Millennium Falcon in 2026 and an opening date for the new experience! We also got a first look at some really cool-looking concept art showing some of the different locations across the Star Wars universe we will encounter on the ride. Above, you can see a look at the Millennium Falcon soaring through Cloud City above Bespin. While the ride as it is right now is a very cool premise, the stakes of the mission could be much higher, and this new Mandalorian storyline looks like it will really take the experience to a whole new level.

We also got some more details about the new Tony Stark ride coming to Avengers Campus and the making of it. This is a really unique attraction and a key part of the technology has never been in a theme park before. At the SXSW panel, Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Imagineering Bruce Vaughn described how this is a departure from other rides where the tech is hidden. Instead, “the tech IS the story, so we’re putting it front and center.”

The other big piece of Disneyland news that came out of the SXSW Conference is that the Fantastic 4 characters will be coming to Tomorrowland in Disneyland. The upcoming Fantastic Four film, comes to theaters on July 25. There is also a H.E.R.B.I.E. robot in development!

There were also some major announcements for Disney World at the panel that you can read about as well, including more details about the new type of ride vehicle in development for the Cars ride coming to Magic Kingdom, a really cool look at the vertical lift after boarding for the new Monsters Inc. doors coaster in Hollywood Studios, and the news that the cute Star Wars droids will make their Disney World debut soon.

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

  • The new Disneyland 70th anniversary special ticket offer for the summer goes on sale tomorrow, March 11, 2025. This special offer is valid for visits from May 16 through August 14, 2025. You can see more details on the Disneyland Anniversary Ticket Offer and pricing here. • Spring Break crowds start to pick up this week. This week marks the start of a busy season at Disneyland with kids out of school. We typically see Spring Break crowds pick up in mid-March and last through most of April. If you have a visit planned during this time, be sure to check out our tips for beating the crowds at Disneyland. You can have a great trip even when the parks are crowded if you come in with a solid strategy to tackle priorities (check out our Disneyland 3-day itinerary) and take advantage of the Disneyland morning hours to rope drop popular attractions with lower wait times.
  • As we enter into this busier time of year, starting this week on March 14, Mickey's Mix Magic will have fireworks every night until March 30. See more Disneyland operational updates in our full section below.
  • Disney California Adventure is closing early at 5pm on March 13 for a private Cast Member event. Make sure you plan accordingly! You can see more of the Disneyland early closures that may impact your trip.
  • Dining reservations for Mother's Day can be made starting this Wednesday. See our guide to Mother's Day at Disneyland for details on dining spots and other activities to celebrate.

Star Wars Nite at Disneyland

  • Booking for Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite dining will begin on March 13 at Cafe Orleans and Oga’s Cantina. See everything you need to know about Disneyland Star Wars Nite.
  • St. Patrick's Day takes place on March 17. Disneyland will likely have some smaller offerings for the St. Patrick's Day celebration including some themed food offerings across the resort. Also, don't forget to check out the hidden Leprechaun house in Disneyland decorated for St. Patrick's Day and read the fun story behind this hidden detail!
  • There is rain forecast for some days this week at Disneyland. If your visit falls on a day when rain is expected, make sure you come prepared with a poncho (we recommend these over umbrellas) and water-resistant shoes. You can see our full guide for how to do Disneyland in the rain detailing all of the activities you can enjoy including indoor rides, shops, and dining.
  • Indiana Jones Adventure is closing for refurbishment on March 17. This popular ride will be undergoing a longer refurbishment spanning the busy Spring Break season at Disneyland. See details on this ride closure and its duration.
  • New info! Storytellers Cafe is closing for refurbishment for a few weeks in March, and we have new details on how the offerings will continue during this time. The restaurant page now says that during the closure, Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet and Brunch will be available in the Trillium Room. Storytellers Cafe will also have a dinner buffet in the Trillium Room. We do not yet have the exact closure date officially confirmed by Disney. Disney previously shared that Hearthstone Lounge will be open in its place with expanded hours and offerings. During this refurbishment, you can still book the other Disneyland Character Dining experiences offered at the resort like Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn and Goofy's Kitchen.
  • Spring character dining experiences are open for booking. Easter Day brunch and dinner reservations are now open at Storytellers Cafe. You can read more about this special Easter dining experience for details on the pricing, menu, and more. We expected this to book up pretty quickly, but lots of times are still available. Reservations are also now open for the Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Springtime! buffet which starts April 3, 2025. This themed character dining experience features floral decor, music, and Goofy and friends in “garden-inspired garb.”
  • Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite tickets are still on sale to the general public. The event takes place on select dates from April 8 to May 6, 2025 at Disneyland Park. At the time of writing, there are still tickets on sale for all party nights of the event except for May 4, 2025, which is sold out. We're surprised that the party is selling a little bit more slowly this year.
  • Special food offerings are still available at locations across Avengers Campus to celebrate the release of Captain America: Brave New World, including the Red Gamma Gulp, Captain America Shield Sipper, Liberty Punch, Pepperoni Pizza Pocket, Red Rage Wings, and Cheese Pizza pocket.

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is excited about all of the Disneyland news we got last week including the 70th anniversary details and looks at new upcoming rides. She is particularly looking forward to seeing the resort all decked out in colorful 70th decor and (although it's a long way from now) the new Mandalorian storyline for the Millennium Falcon ride that looks like it will be a really positive change for the ride.
  • Gavin is super excited about the 70th Anniversary updates that really start to make this celebration feel like something special and different than the other festivals in the past few years. Someone who “gets” the magic of Disneyland is clearly putting real thought into this. Now, I just wish they had a show in the Hyperion Theater or Fantasyland.
  • Lindsay is looking forward to the return of the Paint the Night Frozen float and generally to watch that parade on Main Street again this summer.

Where In Disneyland Is This?

Hint: These stairs are a remaining piece of Disneyland history…do you know what they used to lead to?

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect to see Spring Break crowds starting to pick up with kids out of school on break. This week marks the start of one of the busiest times of the year at Disneyland.

You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.
