Disneyland Tomorrowland Getting New Characters Addition This Summer

Disney has just shared some big news at the SXSW Conference about major Disney projects in the works and other big happenings coming up at the parks! During a Disney panel called The Future of World-Building at SXSW, Disney announced that new changes will be coming to Tomorrowland at Disneyland soon!

There were also some other big announcements made including new details on the Tony Stark ride coming to Avengers Campus, a look at the new type of ride vehicle in development for the upcoming Magic Kingdom Cars thrill ride, an animatic of the boarding process for the new Monsters Inc. suspended coaster in Hollywood Studios, and new concept art for the new Millennium Falcon ride coming to Galaxy's Edge.

Disney has shared that a new addition themed to a new Marvel movie this summer is coming to Tomorrowland at Disneyland.

At the SXSW Conference, Disney shared that the Fantastic Four will be making character appearances at Disneyland Park in Tomorrowland starting this summer! The upcoming film Fantastic Four: First Steps comes to theaters on July 25. An exact meeting date has not yet been released, but we anticipate it will be around the same time as the film's release.

Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm will be making character appearances in Tomorrowland. Disney also shared that they are working on a H.E.R.B.I.E robot who will make appearances, but we don't yet have details on when that experience will be available.

This is in line with Disneyland bringing characters to Avengers Campus for a limited time coinciding with the release of new films. During the announcement, Kevin Feige shared how Tomorrowland helped to inspire the new Fantastic Four: First Steps film, so it makes sense that the characters are appearing here specifically.

We have long been hoping that Disney will do a general overhaul of the land to revitalize it, but in the meantime, these characters should help to bring new life to this area of the park that does not have many meet-and-greet opportunities. This meet and greet could be the first of many projects that we see added to Tomorrowland in the coming years. This land is just too prime of real estate to be left sitting here without improvements.

There's a long history of using Tomorrowland to promote new films and also for the land to be constantly changing. When Disneyland first opened, this land was actually the least complete and it has been completely gutted and refurbished multiple times.
