Disneyland’s 2024 Early Closures and Late Openings Could Disrupt Your Trip – See All Dates!

In an interesting move, Disneyland recently released its 2024 events calendar all at once. Typically they hold these Disneyland dates to be released throughout the year. This early release gives us the ability to share the dates that we know the parks are closing early for you to consider when making key decisions.

There are a variety of fun events to look forward to during the next year. This year, there are more Disneyland After Dark “nites” offered than ever before and likely more nights of Oogie Boogie Bash (we'll explain below)! While many will be looking to attend the popular Disneyland After Dark events and Oogie Boogie Bash parties during the Halloween season, these special after-hours events close down the park early for the rest of the guests at the park. Some other events are also returning that cause the park to open later.

Some are caught off guard by Disneyland's early closures and late openings and end up having to unexpectedly cut their park plans short without a Park Hopper ticket or alternative plan for the evenings or to start later.

Disneyland 2024 Early Closures

On certain nights during the year, Disneyland closes early for Disneyland After Dark nights, Cast Member celebrations, Oogie Boogie Bash nights, or other special events. At certain times during the year, the parks also just close on the earlier side generally. You can read all about Disneyland 2024 hours and hours predictions here.

There will be four Disneyland After Dark themes in 2024, with parties taking place on select nights each month through early summer, and the Oogie Boogie Bash parties occur in the fall months during the Halloween celebration at Disneyland. On event nights, guests without a special event ticket will not be able to continue enjoying the park after its early closing.

If you are at the park during an Oogie Boogie Bash party night, for example, you will see signs warning that the park will close at 6pm when the event starts. Those who are attending the event are given special wristbands so that Cast Members can identify they have a ticket and they can remain in the park. When park closing time arrives, guests without wristbands are moved to the front of the park and not allowed to go deeper into the park or onto attractions.

Guests who have a Park Hopper ticket on event nights can simply go to the park that is not closing early, but those without a Park Hopper ticket may find their park day cut unexpectedly short.

There are also a few running and walking events throughout the year that can disrupt the park schedule and cause the parks to open late. Disneyland is now hosting runDisney events again at the park for the first time since 2017, with the return of the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and the new Halloween runDisney Disneyland race. There is also a charity walk called the Disneyland CHOC Walk that may interrupt park mornings.

Below, we will take you through the months when Disneyland will have early closures or late openings at both Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park.

January

The 2024 Sweethearts Nite parties take place on several nights in January and February at Disneyland Park. You can see everything you need to know about Sweethearts Nite in our guide to the event! Disneyland Park will be closing at 8pm on the following dates:

• January 23, 25, 30

Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are also opening an hour later than usual on the following date due to the Disneyland Half Marathon:

• January 14 at 9am

February

The 2024 Sweethearts Nite parties will also close Disneyland Park at 8pm on these dates in February:

• February 1, 6, 8, 12 & 14

March

The all-new Disney Channel Nite, another Disneyland After Dark event, will be taking place on two nights in March. You can see everything you need to know about Disney Channel Nite in our guide! Disney Channel Nites will close Disneyland Park early at 8pm on these days:

• March 5 & 7

April

Star Wars Nites will be returning during Season of the Force at Disneyland in April and May, with more nights being offered than ever before. On Star Wars Nite event nights, Disneyland Park will close early at 8 pm on the following days:

• April 16, 18, 23, 25, 30

May

NOTE! For some dates in May and beyond, we don't yet have the full daily hours released from Disney yet, so we have just noted the dates that will be impacted. We will update this article with more information on when the parks will be closed as we get closer to the dates. Star Wars Nites will close Disneyland Park early at 8 pm on the following dates:

• May 2, 7, 9

June

Pride Nite (see everything you need to know about the event in our Pride Nite guide!) will be returning this June, with more early closures at Disneyland Park on the following dates:

• June 18, 20

August, September, October—Oogie Boogie Bash Disneyland Early Closures

Disneyland confirmed the return of the Oogie Boogie Bash parties in 2024 and announced an extended Halloween season that will take place from August 23 to October 31st. While we do not yet have the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash dates, this extension might mean that more nights will be offered, so the park will close early on the dates the parties are offered in August (highly likely dates are added this year), September, and October.

Last year, the Oogie Boogie Bash parties took place from 6pm-11pm, with Disney California Adventure closing early at 6pm. If you are planning a visit during this time period, we recommend either spending the day at Disneyland Park (see our 1-Day Disneyland Park Itinerary) or getting a Park Hopper ticket.

You can view the dates from LAST YEAR that the Oogie Boogie Bash took place in our guide. Note that specific Oogie Boogie Bash 2024 dates have not yet been released.

The dates for the party last year were on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays during this period. It is a safe assumption that the 2024 party dates and thus early closures will also be on those dates starting after August 23, 2024.

November / December Early Park Closings

Disneyland does not currently have any holiday-themed special event in the style of Oogie Boogie Bash. Two years ago they offered the Disneyland Merriest Nites event which did not return after its one year run. We do not anticipate that the Merriest Nites event will return to Disneyland in 2024.
