Motherhood is an extremely magical thing. Why not celebrate it at The Most Magical Place on Earth? If you are hesitant about going to Disney World while you or someone else in your vacation party is pregnant, don’t be! Disney World is actually a fantastic place to vacation while pregnant.

Due to the variety of rides, attractions, and entertainment that is provided at Walt Disney World, there is so much that pregnant women can do no matter how far along they are!

As someone who has vacationed to Disney World while pregnant, I would love to give you all of the necessary information for you or your loved one to have the most magical time at Disney World while pregnant. In this article, I’m going to give tips and tricks for pregnant ladies on how to handle the parks, things to think about, and everything that you'll be able to do at the parks during your pregnancy. Keep reading to find out everything that you need to know so you can be prepared to have the best trip possible!

Things to Consider When Visiting Disney World While Pregnant

The first thing that you’ll want to do before taking a trip to Disney World while pregnant is check in with your doctor. Every woman and pregnancy is different. What may be fine for you, may not be fine for someone else. The specific things that I’m going to discuss in this article will be based on standard, no complication pregnancies and what’s normally considered safe. However, if your doctor gives you specific orders, you should of course follow them!

Weather

In the early stages of planning your Disney World vacation, one thing that’s important to consider while pregnant is the weather. When I say weather, I don’t mean rain. I’m more so talking about temperature.

It’s important that you avoid extreme cold and extreme heat when you’re pregnant. Considering Disney World’s Florida location, extremely cold temps won’t be something that you’ll need to worry about. However, it can get extremely hot.

If it’s possible, consider planning your trip to Disney World while pregnant during the cooler months of the year. Orlando generally sees its coolest temps from December to February. If you aren’t able to make it there during the cooler months, perhaps it’s possible for you to avoid the months that Orlando usually sees its hottest temps. Generally, the hottest times of the year are June to September.

Which Parks You Want to Visit

Tree of Life Animal Kingdom

While some Guests visit all four parks on every single trip to Disney World, others are more particular about which parks they want to go to. It’s not a bad idea to be a little more picky about which parks you want to visit when you’re on vacation to Disney World while pregnant.

In just a moment, I will be going over everything that you can do at Disney World while pregnant. Depending on where your interests lie, some parks may seem more appealing than others. Perhaps you’ll want to visit a park where you can still ride quite a few rides. Maybe you’d rather choose a park where you can sit back and enjoy Disney World’s entertainment. Or, while you’re eating for two, maybe you want to visit the parks that have your favorite foods and restaurants!

What to Pack

Disney World can easily be exhausting for anyone. However, you should count on it being a little more difficult when you’re pregnant. Make sure that you pack items that help make your trip as comfortable as possible for you. You’ll want to remember things that you’ll need with you at the resort, in your park bag, and for your trip in general.

Comfortable Clothing & Shoes

Of course, you’ll also want to make sure that you pack clothes that you’re going to be comfortable in the whole time. While there is some extremely cute Disney clothing out there for pregnant women, remember that the top priority is comfort, not fashion. Some women like loose fitting clothes when they’re pregnant. Others prefer clothing that hugs their growing belly. Whatever type of clothing you’ve been frequenting at home, wear the same to Disney! Just make sure that you’re packing clothes that keep you cool enough in the heat.

In regard to clothing, one major thing you need to pack are good shoes. You’re going to want shoes that aren’t going to cause you soreness after walking through the parks for long periods of time. You may even want to think about taking additional pairs of shoes. Especially if your feet have been swelling with the pregnancy. My feet didn’t swell for either of my pregnancies while I was at home, but they did swell when I was at Disney World while pregnant. When you’re hot, pregnant, and doing a lot of walking, your feet may end up swelling even if they don’t usually. Flip flops aren’t one of our top recommended types of shoes for Disney World, but once my feet swelled, they were all that I wore for the rest of the trip!

Vitamins & Medication

There are a few things that you’ll want to make sure you grab out of the medicine cabinet. Firstly, don’t forget your prenatal vitamins! As an important daily supplement for both you and baby, you won’t want to go without for the length of your vacation. While Disney resorts and merchandise locations often carry pain relievers and other over the counter medicine, prenatal vitamins are not ones that you’re likely to find. If you do happen to forget them though, don’t worry! You can always order some from Amazon or add them to a grocery order and have them delivered directly to your resort.

On the topic of pain reliever, if your doctor approves it for you, bring some along! I make sure to always bring pain reliever with me to Disney World. Aches and pains aren’t uncommon from all of the physical activity that you’re putting in day after day. Your body is more prone to pain and discomfort when you’re pregnant. Having pain reliever on hand can be extremely helpful.

Of course, if you have prescribed medicine, don’t forget to bring that along with you as well!

Heat & Sun Protection

Animal Kingdom Expedition Everest

It’s extremely important that you protect yourself from the sun and heat. Pregnant women are subject to exhaustion and heat stroke when they are in extremely hot temperatures. Don’t forget to bring items with you that will help keep you cool and protect you from the sun! This can include items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, a fan, water bottle, cooling rag, and hat.

Moisturizing Products

It’s always a good idea to bring Lip Balm along with you to Disney World. Besides dry lips, when you’re pregnant, it’s common to also experience dry and itchy skin. Especially on your belly! Packing some moisturizer or lotion in your suitcase is a simple and easy way to add additional comfort to your day. You can even throw some in your park bag to make sure that you aren’t itching throughout the day!

What Resort You Want to Stay At

Normally, people put thought into which resort they want to stay at. This isn’t an uncommon thing to do. However, when you’re picking your resort this time, you’ll want to be thinking of it with a pregnancy mindset. Think about the sleeping arrangements. Make sure you’re going to be comfortable and have space to relax!

Another thing to think about is location. Is your resort in a location that’s convenient for the parks you’re wanting to go to? How is the transportation? Perhaps this time you’d rather stay at a Skyliner resort to take away from the amount of times that you have to use Disney buses.

Possibly one of the most important things to think about are the food options! Are the dining locations at your resort going to satisfy your wants, needs, and pregnancy cravings? Maybe this time you should consider getting a resort that has a kitchen in your room so you can have all of those desired foods with you!

As you can see, there are SO many things that you do at Disney World while you’re pregnant. Everything that I just listed is safe for pregnant women to participate in no matter which trimester they're in. There are only a few rides that didn’t make the list due to them not being safe for women who are farther along in their pregnancy.

Rides to Avoid at Disney World While Pregnant

Now, let’s talk about which rides you should avoid at Disney World while pregnant. Depending on your pregnancy, you may even find that you want to skip some of the previously listed rides. If motion sickness is something that you’re struggling with, you may want to avoid the spinner rides like Dumbo the Flying Elephant and TriceraTop Spin. If you’re struggling with taking decently sized steps down or back up again, you may want to avoid boat rides like Pirates of the Caribbean or “it’s a small world”. As I mentioned at the beginning, this article is simply here as a guideline. You and your doctor will know what’s best for you and your pregnancy.

  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Animal Kingdom

  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • DINOSAUR
  • Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris

All of these rides are ones that should most definitely be avoided during your third trimester. Most of these rides are on this list because they are jerky, have sudden stops, drops, or are simply too rough. All of those are movements that should be avoided during pregnancy. However, there may be a couple on this list that seem relatively smooth, and therefore it may be confusing as to why they’re on this list. Let’s talk further about those ones!

These rides are ones that I think pregnant women in their first trimester and second trimester COULD possibly ride. However, I will go over specific details about each one that may cause you to use extra caution when considering riding them.

Mad Tea Party

This ride isn't on everyone's list of rides that should be avoided. However, I'm putting it on mine. This ride can spin very fast and can be EXTREMELY nauseating. Depending on your own personal pregnancy, you may want to avoid riding this one. While it's overall considered safe for pregnancy, you may want to skip it. It's also an extremely tight fit sometimes for adults. As your baby belly grows, it may be difficult to fit on this ride. The ride also ends with an abrupt stop.

Tomorrowland Speedway

As a ride filled with simple cars that even children can drive, how did Tomorrowland Speedway make the list? Well.. even though most Guests CAN drive the cars, they aren't always the best at it. Sometimes cars do slam into each other (even though they're instructed not to). There may even be times where you find that you need to abruptly stop your own car. Because of that, this ride has the potential to be rough and jerky. There's also the fact that these cars are powered with gasoline. Many Guests, pregnant or not, complain about how nauseating the smell can be. You may also simply want to avoid breathing in the fumes for health reasons. When you're on the track, you're very much in the midst of it all.

Frozen Ever After

Overall, this ride isn't much different than Pirates of the Caribbean as far as intensity goes. So why is this boat ride on the list while so many others are on the list of approved rides? Like the others, this one is relatively smooth. However, this ride does have a drop that is much larger than any of the other boat rides. It also has portions where your boat gets pushed backwards and it can potentially feel a little rough.

Mission: SPACE

While this is just a simulator ride, it is extremely nauseating. For reference, this is the only ride at Walt Disney World that has barf bags inside the ride vehicle. This ride may not necessarily be dangerous for those in their first trimester or second trimester, but it most definitely isn't pleasant. If you want to avoid motion sickness and a good chance of throwing up, consider skipping this ride.

Alien Swirling Saucers

Alien Swirling Saucers

This is another ride that doesn't make every ride restriction list for women who go to Disney World while pregnant. Again, like the others that I'm talking about, this one shouldn't be an issue for those who are earlier in their pregnancy. It's not a super intense ride, but it does have a bit of a whip to it. If you're not familiar with this Toy Story ride, it somewhat swings you back and forth as it passes you from one area to the other. This is another one that can be considered nauseating or a little bit too rough for comfort.

Slinky Dog Dash

Compared to other rides, I actually find Slinky Dog Dash very smooth. However, I think it makes the list mostly due to its natural nature as a roller coaster. However, it's not jerky or rough and it doesn't have any sudden movement. I'd personally ride this with no hesitation earlier on in my own pregnancy.

Avatar Flight of Passage

This ride may seem odd since it is another very smooth ride. Many Guests even compare it to Soarin' due to the ride technology. However, it really isn't on this list due to a matter of safety in regard to intensity. Moreso, it's the ride vehicle that puts this ride on the list. During this ride, you're supposed to feel like you're riding on the back of a banshee. Because of this, you're straddling a the vehicle and leaning forward. This, of course, makes it clearly difficult for those with pregnant bellies. You also may understandably have reservations about leaning on your belly during a ride.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Since this attraction is simply a ride in a safari vehicle, it may not seem like it's necessary for it to be on the list. While it's overall not an intense and jerky ride, it does have the possibility of being jerky. Again, this is a ride that I wouldn't consider dangerous early on in pregnancy, but I would be more mindful of it if you're farther along.

Ways to Commemorate Your Pregnancy at Disney World

Disney World PhotoPass photographer

Pregnancy is so special, but it can be made even more magical while at Disney World. What can you do when you're at Disney to make it extra special? Here’s some ideas!

First of all, don’t pass up on Disney PhotoPass photographers! There are so many great photo opportunities at Disney World and it’s the perfect opportunity to capture great photos of yourself during your pregnancy. You could also consider doing a special Capture Your Moment photo session! This is a private photo session where you will have your own personal photographer that takes your picture at various locations around the park of your choice. Your session will be 20 minutes long. You can also book two sessions back to back if you wish to have a longer shoot! Capture Your Moment sessions are available in all four theme parks. Each 20 minute session is $99. If you already have Memory Maker, you will receive free downloads of all of the pictures that are taken during your private photo shoot!

Whether you opt for the private session or to take standard pictures at Disney, you can use these photos of your pregnancy as announcements! You can have pictures taken for a pregnancy announcement or even a gender reveal! There are a variety of items at Disney World that you can use in your photos for either of these announcements. You can use things such as plushies, an embroidered Mickey ear hat, snacks, and so much more! I personally used a blue Mickey balloon when we were doing our gender reveal for our son. The possibilities are endless!
