One Big Thing – Red Car Trolley Closing
This week, the Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure will have its final day of operation on February 8, 2025. This permanent closure is to make way for the Avengers Campus expansion coming to the park.
As we discuss in our report of the Red Car Trolley closure, this is a change that many are saddened by, as the trolley is a key part of the atmosphere and helped to redefine the park and bring some Disney magic to it after its rough start. While we didn't necessarily ride this attraction frequently, it's hard to imagine walking through Disney California Adventure without hearing the trolley bell ring and watching it go by.
While many are sad about this change, others are really not that sad to see the trolleys go! Our content director Lindsay talks about this below and how it opens up some new possibilities. Plus, it takes away the worry of having to move out of the way for the trolley every other minute while walking around the park (but is it really Disneyland if you're not constantly dodging a vintage vehicle?). You can see more on this in our “What We're Thinking About This Week” section below.
Important Disneyland Dates This Week
- Disney just made a positive change to the DAS Disability Program extending the window of time guests have to apply for the program before their visit. You can see more details on this DAS change and what it means.
- A pop-up mini golf experience inspired by Disney and Pixar films is coming to the Pixar Place Hotel starting on Friday, February 7, 2025. You can read details about how you can get tickets for this Disney and Pixar mini golf course and a photo tour of its setup in another location.
- Disneyland After Dark Sweethearts' Nite parties take place on February 4, 6, and 9 this week. If you're attending this event, make sure to check out the Sweethearts' Nite food you can enjoy at the event. For those not attending, this event will close Disneyland Park early at 8pm on those dates. Make sure you're aware of all the Disneyland early park closures currently scheduled.
- Adults at Kids' Prices ticket sale! Available now for a limited time (through February 14), you can take advantage of an adults at kids' prices ticket sale happening right now for Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood! If you're planning a spring visit, you can combine this offer with the spring kids' special ticket offer to maximize your savings. There is also an adults at kids' prices deal happening for Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando as well.
- Disneyland celebrates Black History Month with Celebrate Soulfully, which brings a variety of offerings to the resort celebrating Black heritage and culture. The first performance for the annual Celebrate Gospel concert at Disneyland Park returns on February 8 featuring award-winning gospel music stars and Southern California community choirs, with DOE performing on this day. You can read about more of the special offerings available in our guide to Celebrate Soulfully at Disneyland.
- Disneyland's Valentine's Day foods are now available for a limited time. There is a selection of themed treats and special offerings available throughout the resort to enjoy! You can see our guide to Valentine's Day at Disneyland for the full menu.
- February 8 is Disney California Adventure's 24th anniversary! In the past, there have been specialty keepsakes handed out in the morning, but this has not been done for a bit. We anticipate something bigger might be done next year for the park's 25th anniversary.
- The popular jewelry brand CRISLU is having its first event of the year at Disneyland as part of Sweethearts' Nite. There will be a meet and greet where you can meet the designer Amireh Parstabar and get your box signed on February 9th & 11th from 7pm-1am at Emporium on Main Street. You can read more about this popular jewelry brand that Disney adults will wait in line hours for.
- There will be some construction happening in New Orleans Square starting today, February 3. Disneyland will be working to replace concrete on the east side of the new Haunted Mansion shop Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond to improve drainage in the area, and this construction will last for about a month. The shop is expected to stay open during the construction, but some props and theming from the exterior will be removed while the construction is taking place and then reinstalled. You can enter through the doors on the side closest to the Haunted Mansion exit.
- Disneyland Magic Key annual passes are still available after they recently went on sale again a couple of weeks ago. These have not sold out quickly the last few times sales have been open, but Disneyland is likely to pause Magic Key sales soon. See everything you need to know about Disneyland Magic Keys and perks.
- Super Bowl Sunday is coming up on February 9. While the celebratory cavalcade will take place at Disney World this year given that the game is in New Orleans, make sure you're aware of the impact the game will have on Disneyland. You can expect rope drop at Disneyland to be busier and bigger crowds during the first part of the day before these subside a bit in the mid-afternoon into the early evening as people go to Downtown Disney to watch the game. Downtown Disney may be a bit busier than usual as many dining locations have TVs that will be showing the game. If you're planning on dining in Downtown Disney that day, we recommend securing a reservation just in case.
- There is rain forecast for some days this week at Disneyland. If your visit falls on a day when rain is expected, make sure you come prepared with a poncho (we recommend these over umbrellas) and water-resistant shoes. You can see our full guide for how to do Disneyland in the rain detailing all of the activities you can enjoy including indoor rides, shops, and dining.
- Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite tickets are currently on sale to the general public. The event takes place on select dates from April 8 to May 6, 2025 at Disneyland Park. At the time of writing, there are still tickets on sale for all party nights of the event.
- Din Tai Fung in Downtown Disney now offers a takeout option so that you can take your food back to your hotel, have a picnic, or even bring it into the parks! This is one of the best Downtown Disney restaurants, so we're excited to see this option offered.
- Special Lunar New Year Magic Shots can currently be found on Buena Vista Street.
Key Disneyland News You Missed
- Disneyland finally fixed a key special effect on Rise of the Resistance that we thought was gone for good. We're excited to see that this is working again! You can read details in our report of this Disneyland Rise of the Resistance special effect returning.
- Disney recently updated its disability pass eligibility language on the DAS websites. We break down the details of this change in disability pass eligibility language and whether it actually affects DAS.
- Heads up if you are visiting this spring! A very popular Disneyland ride will be closed for refurbishment. You can read everything we know so far about this upcoming Disneyland closure.
- Storytellers Cafe will be closing for refurbishment for a few weeks in March, and we are in that dining reservation window now. Disney shared that Hearthstone Lounge will be open in its place with expanded hours and offerings. During this refurbishment, you can still book the other Disneyland Character Dining experiences offered at the resort like Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn and Goofy's Kitchen.
- A new closure was added for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! pretty soon. See closure details.
- New shops recently opened in Downtown Disney, including the sweets shop Disney Wonderful World of Sweets, the reimagined version of Marceline's Confectionary, and Disney Storyland Boutique. Disney Wonderful World of Sweets sells Werther’s Original Caramel popcorn! This popular popcorn does sell out, but the store makes fresh batches throughout the day. Disney Storyland Boutique also recently opened with its first theme revolving around all things cute and cuddly, featuring the popular Sakura line from the Disney Store in Japan.
- Disneyland recently announced big changes coming soon to their hotels including new lounges, room refreshments, and restaurant overhauls. This also brought the news that Disneyland's fanciest restaurant will close for months for these changes.
- The Disneyland Valentine's Day popcorn bucket featuring Mickey and Minnie recently became available. You can read about this offering in our guide to Disney popcorn buckets.

Magic Key Benefits Continue in February
Special perks for Magic Key Annual Passholders continue this month and into the next. These are a way for them to incentivize passholder visits during what is a slower time for vacation goers.
- Magic Key Annual Passholders get $2 popcorn refills January 8, 2025 – February 19, 2025 when they purchase a special stitch popcorn bucket.
- Magic Key holders can enjoy special food offerings including the Box O' Sliders at Galactic Grill, and Ice Cream Floats from Golden Horseshoe (pictured below).
- Magic Key no-shows have been removed, likely due to the Los Angeles wildfires. We are not sure how long this will last, but we do not think it is a permanent change. This is the message Disney sent out to a member of our team when her cancellations were recently removed.
- Magic Key holders attending Sweethearts' Nite can pick up a commemorative 3-button set. You'll find this near the walkway to Galaxy's Edge past Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM on event nights, available while supplies last.
Disneyland Operational Updates
- Disneyland will close early on February 4, 6, and 9 at 8pm due to Sweethearts Nite taking place at 9pm
- The World of Color – One show runs each night along with the Mickey's Mix Magic fireworks show. Fireworks will be shown along with the projection show Friday-Sunday. Fantasmic! will also play on the weekends.
- Disneyland has not announced a parade that will be offered in the time between now and the 70th anniversary celebration (click here for details). There is currently a Mickey and Friends Cavalcade along the parade route at Disneyland Park twice a day. Disneyland will be bringing back Paint the Night and Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration starting in May 2025.
What We're Thinking About This Week
- Lindsay is wondering, “am I the villain?” as she's not particularly sad about the Red Trolley Car closing in California Adventure. She just recently rode it with her family for the first time (yes, first time in all these years!) and well, it was okay but not necessarily a repeat experience. Since the Red Trolley Car streetcar lines overhead seem to always be the excuse for limiting festival food booths and large parade floats in Hollywood Land, maybe it's time to say goodbye if it opens up potential for better things!
- Gavin is excited about the new Pixar Putt offering. He saw the course at D23 and thought the holes were cute. He thinks this is a nice addition for those visiting Downtown Disney to make a visit there a fuller day and to give the frequent Magic Key visitors something else Disney-themed to try out.
- Emily recently visited the parks and is really happy that the traditional Haunted Mansion is back but feels conflicted about the new Haunted Mansion bride. She feels like this change lowers the stakes of the attic scene and doesn't quite work with the overall pacing of the attraction. Much of the Haunted Mansion's appeal lies in how it successfully juggles its spooky and comedic elements, and this moment now just feels quite sad and heavy. This one funny comment from Disneyland's original announcement of this change on Instagram from user @lothcatnip sums it up: “I like my brides as axe murderers, thank you very much.”
Where In Disneyland Is This?
Hint: It's one of our favorite relaxing spots at the resort. Comment your answer below and we'll reveal the spot next week!
Answer to last week's “Where In Disneyland Is This?”: Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week
This first week of February, we expect average crowd levels at the parks with some above-normal crowds at Disney California Adventure heading into the weekend. As we mentioned in our “Important Disneyland Dates This Week” section above, on Super Bowl Sunday, you can expect rope drop to be busier on this day before crowds die down in the mid-afternoon to early evening.
You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.
New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week
During this slower time of year after the holiday celebration, we will often see more rides down for standard refurbishments or closures to remove holiday overlays.
Here are some of the other current closures that are continuing into this week:
- Sailing Ship Columbia is closed for refurbishment
- The Disney Gallery is closed for refurbishment
- The Disneyland Monorail is closed for refurbishment
- The Disneyland Railroad is closed for refurbishment
- Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe is closed for refurbishment
- Grizzly River Run is closed for refurbishment
- “it's a small world” is closed for refurbishment.
You can see reopening dates for some of the above attractions and other upcoming closures in our Disneyland ride refurbishment guide.
