Burger King Kids Meal Toys Right Now 2024 – Current Offerings, Past Hits

As a child, there was no happier time for me than opening either a Happy Meal toy from McDonald’s or a Kids Meal toy from Burger King.

What made Burger King Kids Meal toys cool was that even as a kid, I could tell how much they were competing with McDonald’s, trying to come out with funner, cooler, more interactive toys. I mean, who could forget the Backstreet Boys CD that came with a Burger King Value Meal that competed with the NSYNC Hit Clips? What about the gold-plated Pokémon cards that rode the Pokémon craze in the early 2000s?

Burger King Kids Meal toys have been around putting smiles on kids (and relief to parents) for a very long time. Since its introduction, Burger King released so many different types of Kids Meal toys, from action figures to glasses to CDs – and of course, Disney themed toys.

Burger King: A Little History

Originally named Insta-Burger King and founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, the burger franchise had a rapid initial expansion in Florida, becoming known for their signature flame broiler.

Unfortunately, the group that ran the franchise ran into financial difficulties that ultimately plagued the Burger King name for several years. The franchise went through a number of ownership changes before becoming the company it is today. However, in the midst of all the changes, the first Kids Meal toy was released in the mid 1980s – several years after McDonald’s first released its Happy Meal toy.

Let’s get into some of the most recent and most popular toys released in its almost 40-year history.

Miraculous Kids Meal Toys

To further promote the movie, Burger King even released an innovative take on their Whopper, the “Spider-Verse” Whopper, and a “Spider-Verse” Sundae, which featured black and red chocolate popping candies.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Burger King Kids Meal Toys Sonic

In collaboration with the makers behind one of our ultimate favorite video game characters, Burger King released a series of toys celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog in March 2023. These 6 toys were an attempt to capture the popular fidget trend, featuring toys like a Fidget Spinner, Triple Pop It Ring, and a Lenticular Maze.

Gone but not Forgotten

Since its first Kids Meal, Burger King released a bunch of toys, some that were outright hits and some that were near misses. Regardless, the last 40 years brought customers a lot of fun with their Burger King flame-grilled burger and fries.

Let’s go over some of our favorites!

The Backstreet Project Action Figures

Did you think I wasn’t going to revisit this throwback?

Let’s go back to the year 2000, when American boy bands were all the rage and Jessica Simpson was still married to Nick Lachey. The Backstreet Project was a one-shot comic book by – you guessed it – Stan Lee!

This comic took our favorite (or 2nd favorite, depending on who you talked to) boy band and transformed them into a superhero group called The Cyber Crusaders. In collaboration with this release, Burger King made a series of action figures with The Cyber Crusaders, along with CDs featuring their music.

Beetlejuice

Burger King Kids Meal Toys Beetlejuice

Now a cult classic, this popular Tim Burton film eventually made its way into Burger King Kids Meals in 1990 and featured some… interesting looking toys. To be fair, these toys were released only a few years after Burger King started giving toys in their Kids Meals, so there may have been some experimentation to find out what worked and what didn’t.

Regardless, these toys made for interesting reactions as a kid!

Disney Cups

How could we go this long without mentioning a Disney toy? For a true cup of nostalgia, look no further than these Disney cups. Released in 1994, this series of cups featured some of Disney’s most popular animated features, including Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Packaged in fun cardboard boxes, 8 different designs were initially released and have now become classic collectors items. Arguably the most popular and rare one is The Little Mermaid cup!

Star Wars Complete the Saga

Burger King Kids Meal Toys Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Originally released in 2005 in conjunction with the DVD release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Burger King promoted the release of Super D Star Wars toys. This series of 17 toys included the likes of Chewbacca, Obi Wan Kenobi, a Stormtrooper, and even Darth Vader.

Star Wars Glasses

Star Wars A New Hope

Technically not a Kids Meal toy, this set of 4 glasses were released by Burger King inn 1977 as a way to promote the original blockbuster Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Unsurprisingly, these glasses were a huge success that prompted subsequent releases to promote the next 2 Star Wars movies to come out in the 1980s. Each glass featured some of our beloved Star Wars characters, including Darth Vader, C-3PO, and Lando Calrissian.

Pocahontas

 Pocahontas

A classic animated feature from Disney’s golden era, Burger King helped to promote the release of Pocahontas in 1995 with a set of toys featuring some of its most popular characters. Featuring the likes of Meeko, John Smith, Governor Ratcliffe, and of course Pocahontas, the complete set of toys can be worth a lot of in good condition!

Shrek and Shrek 2 Kids Meal Toys

 Shrek

As many memes as the Shrek franchise gets, these toys were quite popular during their movie release dates. And while the Shrek 2 toys are fairly easy to find even nowadays, the original Shrek Kids Meal toys are actually hard to come by, and if you find one, chances are they’re worth a pretty penny.

Pokémon Golden Cards

Pokemon

Back when Pokémon trading cards were gaining traction, Burger King released six 23-karat gold-plated cards stored inside of a big pokéball to promote the release of Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back. At a touch of a button, the pokéball would pop open, revealing either Charizard, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Pikachu, Poliwhirl, or Togepi. Even though these cards were anticipated to become highly collectible, the original trading cards are actually more valuable than these gold-plated ones.

Pokémon: The First Movie

Along with the gold-plated cards, Burger King released a set of 59 toys in their Kids Meals based on popular Pokémon characters. Each toy came with 1 of 151 trading cards, and each toy was categorized as either a key-ring, launcher, beanbag, rev-top, squirter, or talking toy. As a complete set, these toys have become extremely valuable among collectors!

Smurfs: The Lost Village

Smurfs

For many years, McDonald’s had an exclusive deal to put the Smurfs in their Happy Meals, but to celebrate the release of Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017, Burger King released a set of figurines representing some of its most popular characters. Many would even argue that Burger King released better Smurfs toys designs than its major competitor!

Rugrats Treehouse

Burger King is no stranger to releasing Rugrats toys. First releasing a series of Rugrats toys in their Kids Meals in 1998, Burger King released a total of 5 series’ since then, with the most popular being the Rugrats Treehouse toys. Released in 2001, these treehouse-themed toys featured our favorite characters that when fully built, created a treehouse that reached 17 inches in height!

Nintendo Wii U

Unlike many of the Burger King Kids Meal toys released over the years, many of the Nintendo collaborations featured toys, not just figurines! The Nintendo Wii U toys are no exception. Released in 2012, this series featured toys like the Mario Shell Shooter that let you launch discs, the Piranha Plant Catch ball game, and a Mario Mustache Maker. These toys made Kids Meals extra fun!

The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons

Can you believe that this movie came out in 2007? To celebrate the release of The Simpsons Movie, Burger King released a series of 16 figures, featuring the most beloved characters from the franchise, including Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie, and Chief Wiggum. What’s more is that these figures would say some of their most popular lines (or sounds, in the case of Maggie)!

The Universal Monsters

This one’s a classic. Released in 1997, Burger King teamed up with Universal to release a series of toys featuring monsters from various Universal movies. Ranging from Count Dracula popping out of his coffin to a Bolts and Volts Frankenstein, these toys were a hit in the 1990s!

What Did We Miss?
