Using a Rideshare

Lyft and Uber

Rideshares are a very common method of transportation for Walt Disney World. Quite often, this option is not only more convenient, but more affordable. Hence the question, what is the Uber cost from Orlando airport to Disney?

Not familiar with rideshares? A rideshare is a form of transportation where you make an arrangement to ride in a private vehicle and are taken directly to your desired destination. Usually, the vehicle is owned by the driver. You can make the arrangement for your ride online or, more commonly, on an app. When you arrange the ride, you will input your pick up location, drop off location, select a vehicle size, and then select which price you prefer to pay. The prices will vary depending on which selections you make as well as how soon your driver can get to you.

Prices will also differ between different rideshare companies. You can download their apps and compare prices for your desired vehicle and location. More often than not, I've found Lyft to have lower prices in comparison to Uber. They've also had vehicles that fit my needs. Therefore, my go-to rideshare company is Lyft. However, everyone's wants and needs are different and you may prefer Uber!

I'm going to show you example pricing for both companies so we can get an idea of the Uber cost from Orlando airport to Disney. I will also be listing what vehicles types both companies have to offer. There are many different possible drop off locations since there are quite a few different Disney World Resort hotels. For these specific examples of Uber cost from Orlando airport to Disney, I'm going to price out what it would currently cost me to go from the Orlando International Airport to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

Rideshare Pickup at the Orlando Airport

Orlando International Airport Rideshare Pickup

After your plane lands, you’ll be provided with instructions on where to claim your bags. Depending on your flight, Baggage Claim may be in Terminal A, B, or C. Once you’ve been given the information on which terminal your bags are in, you’ll follow the signs to get to that terminal. The signage at the Orlando Airport is very good, but if you need additional help or get turned around, don’t hesitate to ask a staff member for help! They’ll be more than happy to get you pointed in the right direction.

Once you’ve collected your luggage, you’ll be ready to get your ride to Walt Disney World! When you’re ready for your ride, you’ll open your desired rideshare app (Uber or Lyft). It should already recognize your location as well as which terminal you’re in. However, if it doesn't, you can select whether you're in Terminal A, B, or C. You’ll then enter your desired destination. After I entered Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, it had me select a specific drop off location. My options were the Main Lobby or Pago Pago Longhouse. For this example, I’m selecting the Main Lobby as my drop off location.

Where to Meet Your Driver

Once all of the trip information is entered, the app will give you even more specific instructions on where to meet your driver. Each terminal has a set location for rideshare pickups. Your app will instruct you on which level of the terminal that you should head to. You can then select which curbside or door you’d like to meet your driver at.

  • Terminal A
    • Go to Level 2
    • Select a curbside number. Available options are Curbsides 3 through 14.
  • Terminal B
    • Go to Level 2
    • Select a curbside number. Available options are Curbsides 20 through 31.
  • Terminal C
    • Go to Level 6
    • Select a door number. Available options are Doors C48-49 or Doors C50-51.

After you select which curbside or door you want to meet your driver at, you’ll head outside and wait at that specified curbside or door. The app will give you information such as your driver’s name, a picture of them, and the make and model of the car they are driving. This will make it easier for you to identify which car is there to pick you up.

Mears Connect

Mears Connect uber cost from orlando airport to disney

When Disney’s Magical Express ended (more on this below!), guests heading to Walt Disney World were not left without other transportation options. Mears, one of Orlando’s top transportation providers, had a bus system in place for guests to use called Mears Connect. However, with a few key differences from Disney’s Magical Express, guests were not overly thrilled with this option at first.

Instead of having free transportation to and from their Disney resort, they now had a new fee to pay for each person riding. Rather than their carefree vacations beginning right when their plane landed, they now had to make their way to luggage carousels and collect their own bags and bring them to the bus. To top it all off, replacing the magically themed buses (complete with beloved characters, Disney music, and a charming transit video) they now boarded plain, everyday buses. The magic was officially gone.

Thankfully, Mears has done a fantastic job getting Disney families to and from their resorts. Today, they’re still providing transportation from the airport to Walt Disney World! For a short while, another transportation company also stepped in to help transport guests from the airport to Disney resorts. This company was called Sunshine Flyer. However, in August of 2023, Mears and Sunshine Flyer merged and are now under one name: Mears Connect – Driven by Sunshine.

Mears Connect Pricing

Express is a shared service with a minimal wait and provides direct round-trip service to ALL Disney Resorts. With this option, you will be taken to ONLY your Disney Resort and you will not have other stops on your route.

Here are the current prices for transportation with Mears Connect from the Orlando International Airport to Walt Disney World Resort Hotels.

Which Ride Will You Take to Disney?

Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy

In terms of services, there's not a huge difference between Uber and Lyft. They’re both reliable, provide a variety of vehicles, and can pick you up within a matter of minutes to take you to your desired location. There’s also not a major difference between their pricing.

Personal preference will be a major factor when choosing between the two. Uber is a bigger company, and in return, does have more to offer. For example, if you’re traveling with your child or pet, Uber has available options for you to accommodate your needs upfront with car seat and pet friendly options. However, even though Lyft does not have a car seat option specifically listed with their car choices, I personally have had a number of Lyft drivers with car seats available.

Both companies are great rideshare options. Again, if you’re unsure of which to choose, I would simply compare the two when you’re in need of a ride. This way you can see what prices each one is offering at the time, which one may have a driver available to you sooner, and which one is able to accommodate your specific needs and wants.

Disney's Magical Express

Disney's Magical Express uber cost from orlando airport to disney

In the past, complimentary transportation was provided to take you directly from the airport to your Walt Disney World Resort hotel. This service was known as Disney’s Magical Express. For many, the Magical Express was the starting point for their wonderful Disney vacation. With the Disney themed bus, kind and welcoming bus drivers, soft Disney music playing in the background, and others who were just as excited as you to get to Walt Disney World, the Magical Express really was the exact moment when the magic began.

Disney’s Magical Express did not only provide transportation to your resort. They took care of getting your luggage to the resort as well! Prior to your trip, you would receive a packet of information in the mail with details about your trip and your ride on the Magical Express. Included in this packet were Disney themed luggage tags as well as resort tags to mark your bags with. These tags would identify all luggage that needed to go to a Disney Resort hotel. Once you arrived in Orlando, your bags were collected from the carousel and then delivered to your resort. You didn’t need to worry about a thing! You were officially on vacation.

Unfortunately, as of January 1, 2022, the services of Disney’s Magical Express are no more. Many guests were (and still are) devastated by the ending of Disney’s Magical Express. Many still hope that this magical transportation system will one day return to Walt Disney World. However, there has been no indication that this service will ever return.
