Disney is Opening 11 New Rides in 2027 at the Theme Parks. Here’s Every New Ride We Know So Far

Disney has more future theme park attractions in development right now than at any time in its history. Quite a few of those projects will be complete in 2027, bringing guests directly into the worlds of beloved characters, including classics like Indiana Jones, modern favorites like Mirabel Madrigal, and even Walt Disney himself. These come after the 2026 new rides.

11 new rides are expected to open in 2027 at Disney’s theme park properties globally: Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disney Resort. We have the full list of all 11 new rides for 2027, what to expect from each, and opening date predictions. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including new restaurants coming to Disney World and a new free version of an expensive Star Wars theme park experience.

Confirmed for 2027: Wreck-It Ralph Ride

Disney’s first Wreck-It Ralph ride is coming to Tokyo Disneyland. A family-friendly interactive ride will take guests into Sugar Rush, the candy-themed arcade racing game from the movie.

Concept art depicts riders restoring glitches in the game’s coding using their blasters.

The Wreck-It Ralph ride is a reimagining of Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which permanently closed at Tokyo Disneyland in October 2024. Other versions of the Buzz Lightyear ride globally will remain Buzz-themed.

Hong Kong Disneyland converted its Buzz Lightyear ride system into a new adventure starring Ant-Man and the Wasp, so it’s interesting to see Disney develop yet another concept for the same ride type in Tokyo.

The Wreck-It Ralph ride will open in spring 2027.

Confirmed for 2027: Encanto Ride

Disney’s first ride based on Encanto is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what type of ride system the Encanto attraction will utilize, but we know it will be some form of a family-friendly experience in the style of a modern Fantasyland dark ride.

The ride’s story takes place on the day in the film when Antonio receives his gift of talking to animals.

This attraction is one component of the new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which also includes two more rides that we’ll discuss below. Tropical Americas replaces DinoLand, U.S.A., which completed its phased closure in February 2026.

The Encanto ride will open sometime in 2027. Disney has not announced an opening season or date.

Possible for 2027: Carousel of Progress Reimagining

Walt Disney Animatronics
Concept art via Disney

A reimagining of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is coming to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The updated version of this classic attraction will include an Audio-Animatronics figure of 1964-era Walt Disney in a new opening scene. We expect the figure to be similar to the one that debuted in 2025 at Disneyland inside the new attraction Walt Disney – A Magical Life.

After the new opening scene with Walt, Carousel of Progress will proceed to the familiar setup with the auditorium traveling through different eras of technology, as narrated by an everyman character named John. Disney says these portions of the ride will be refreshed, too. This is especially welcome for the “present day” finale sequence, which is stuck in 1994, from when the ride’s most recent significant overhaul took place.

Disney hasn’t announced a timeline for the changes to Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, but 2027 seems likely. The updates were first announced in 2025, and Disney hasn’t communicated anything about closure dates for 2026.

Possible for 2027: Avengers Infinity Defense

Concept art via Disney

Avengers Infinity Defense, a big-budget, multimedia ride, is coming to Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort.

Based on what Disney has shared about Avengers Infinity Defense so far, it seems like its ride system will be similar to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, which debuted in 1999 at Universal Islands of Adventure. That complex ride system combines screen-based imagery with physical sets. There’s nothing quite like it at Disneyland yet, but Disney did attempt its own version with Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure, which opened in 2024 at Tokyo DisneySea.

Notably, Walt Disney Imagineering executive Scott Trowbridge is overseeing this project. Before his long Disney career, Trowbridge worked at Universal, where he led the creative team for Islands of Adventure’s groundbreaking Spider-Man ride. Now he has a hand in adapting that ride system at Disney.

The story for Avengers Infinity Defense involves classic Marvel superheroes taking on King Thanos, a multiverse version of the villain who hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers Infinity Defense is part of a larger expansion of Avengers Campus, along with one more new ride, which we’ll discuss below. These two new attractions join the land’s two existing rides, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission – BREAKOUT! and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.

Disney hasn’t officially shared a projected opening year for the Avengers Campus expansion, but Mickey Visit predicts it will be open in time for the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, which debuts in movie theaters on December 17, 2027.

Confirmed for 2027: Indiana Jones Ride (Confirmed)

Indiana Jones concept art
Concept art via Disney

A new Indiana Jones ride is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

Guests will join Indy as he ventures into an ancient Mayan temple, riding in an open-air Jeep through the terrain.

This thrill ride will be a reimagining of DINOSAUR, which permanently closed in February 2026. The updated attraction will repurpose DINOSAUR’s Jeep ride vehicles and path, but replace all the dinos and aesthetics with the new Indiana Jones theme.

The ride inherently shares many similarities with Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland, but this version will tell a completely new story.

Like the Encanto ride, the Indiana Jones attraction is part of the new Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which also includes one more ride, which we’ll detail below.

The Indiana Jones ride will open sometime in 2027. Disney hasn’t announced an opening season or date.

Confirmed for 2027: New Space Mountain

Space Mountain Tokyo
Concept art via Disney

A completely new Space Mountain is coming to Tokyo Disneyland. You’d be forgiven for assuming this was a reimagining of the park’s existing Space Mountain coaster, with perhaps some new special effects or even a replacement of its track, but that’s not what’s happening here.

Instead, Disney built an entirely new Space Mountain ride track and show building from the ground up, and is currently demolishing the old one, which permanently closed in 2024. The new version’s exterior will resemble the familiar Space Mountain design, but with a fresh look, depicted in the concept art above, along with an entrance plaza makeover.

Space Mountain will open in 2027. Disney has not announced an opening season or date.

Possible for 2027: Spider-Man Roller Coaster

Spider-Man roller coaster
Concept art via Disney

A new Spider-Man roller coaster is coming to Shanghai Disneyland. Disney hasn’t revealed much information about this attraction, but construction is underway.

Based on the construction progress so far, most of the Spider-Man coaster track will be outdoors. This marks a departure for Disney, as the company usually conceals roller coasters inside large, hidden buildings, like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.

There are already a handful of roller coasters with exposed track in Disney theme parks. However, these are all relatively small coasters, like Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or they’re themed as roller coasters, like Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure, rather than pretending to be a fantastical adventure, as pointed out by @scottwalker48 on X.

The new Spider-Man coaster will come with a new Spider-Man land, including shopping and dining.

Disney has not formally announced an opening year, season, or date for the Spider-Man roller coaster. However, given its current progress and the increasing likelihood of the ride mostly being outdoors, and therefore not requiring much extra work after the track-laying is complete, I can’t imagine Disney leaving a completed coaster sitting riderless beyond 2027.

Confirmed for 2027: Animal Carousel

Tropical Americas carousel
Concept art via Disney

A new carousel is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Instead of horses, riders hop aboard a favorite Disney animal character. In the concept art, we spy characters from Winnie the Pooh, The Jungle Book, Aladdin, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Up.

The new carousel will be part of the Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which also includes the aforementioned Encanto and Indiana Jones rides. Disney is building this carousel from the ground up. It’s not a reimagining of a previous attraction.

The ride will be the second of its kind at Disney World, joining Prince Charming Regal Carrousel at Magic Kingdom.

The carousel will open sometime in 2027. Disney has not revealed an opening season or date.

Possible for 2027: Stark Flight Lab

Stark Flight Lab
Concept art via Disney

Stark Flight Lab, a ride that flings guests around on a robotic arm, is coming to Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort.

Riders will board a pair of seats, which will maneuver away from the load station before being picked up by a robotic arm and spun through the air in various flight patterns. In the story, guests are testing out new technology meant to help train the Avengers for missions.

Different Avengers superheroes will narrate the onboard audio, so guests who ride multiple times might get a different character each ride.

Stark Flight Lab will open as part of Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus expansion, which also includes the Avengers Infinity Defense ride, described above.

Disney has not revealed an opening year or date for the new Avengers rides, but they are currently under construction. Mickey Visit predicts Disney may be aiming to finish the Avengers Campus expansion at least in time for the release of the new Avengers: Secret Wars movie at the end of 2027.

Confirmed for 2027: Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings

Up swings ride concept art

Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings, a traditional swing ride, is coming to Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris.

Individual seats hang from metal chains that are lifted into the air and gently spun in a circle. You’ve probably ridden swings like this before at various amusement parks or theme parks.

In the attraction’s backstory, riders are earning their aviation badge in the Wilderness Explorers program, just like Russell from Pixar’s Up movie.

Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings will be located in Adventure Way, a new land that opened in 2026 as part of the renaming of Walt Disney Studios Park into Disney Adventure World. Another new land that just opened at that park is World of Frozen.

Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings will open sometime in 2027. Disney hasn’t shared an opening season or date.

Possible for 2027: Soarin’ Expansion

Soarin' Around the World

An expansion of Soarin’ is coming to Shanghai Disneyland, with possible changes at EPCOT in Walt Disney World and Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort.

Soarin’ Over the Horizon at Shanghai Disneyland is so popular that Disney is constructing an additional building to increase the ride’s capacity and help the line move more quickly. Disney previously did this at EPCOT, which considerably helped manage the ride’s crowds. The additional ride building is currently under construction, so a 2027 opening seems possible.

Note that Soarin’ Over the Horizon is Shanghai Disneyland’s name for Soarin’ Around the World, the international-themed version of the flight simulator ride at EPCOT and Disney California Adventure.

EPCOT and Disney California Adventure will debut a new version of the ride, Soarin’ Across America, on May 26 and July 2, 2026, respectively. Disney has said that Soarin’ Across America will be a limited-time engagement, but has not announced an ending date or which version of Soarin’ will replace it. Will Soarin’ Over California or Soarin’ Over the Horizon return, or will a fourth version debut instead? If the latter, would that happen in 2027 or later?

More in 2027: Hotels, Shows, New Cruise Ship

Monsters Inc on stage

All of the above items are strictly rides, but other types of attractions and experiences are also opening at Disney theme parks worldwide in 2027.

Walt Disney World will open the new Disney Lakeshore Lodge hotel, a huge quick service restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and a new transportation option for Magic Kingdom.

Hong Kong Disneyland will debut a new, indoor Pixar stage show, pictured above.

Disney Cruise Line will launch the Disney Believe, the fleet’s ninth ship and its fourth in the Wish class.

Opening in 2028 and Beyond

Beyond 2027, construction is already underway on several large-scale projects, all of which don’t have opening dates yet, but we believe will open after 2027.

Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World will open Piston Peak National Park with new Cars rides, as well as the highly anticipated Villains Land.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World will debut Monstropolis, a new land themed to Monsters, Inc., with a roller coaster based on the movie’s climactic doors chase.

Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort will open a Coco ride and an Avatar land. Broadly, Disneyland Resort also has its sights set on the long-term DisneylandForward plan.

Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris is constructing Disney’s first Lion King ride, an indoor/outdoor log flume thrill ride in the style of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Hong Kong Disneyland will debut a new Avengers drop-tower ride, in the style of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, featuring Spider-Man, Thor, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange in a battle against Doc Ock.

After the Disney Believe cruise ship launches in 2027, an additional four Disney Cruise Line ships will debut by 2031, including the fleet’s first ship sailing from Tokyo.

Disney is also in early development on a new theme park in Abu Dhabi.
