Disneyland closed completely in 2020 for 412 days. When the theme parks finally reopened, it took a long time for the rides, attractions, and offerings to return. There are still some experiences that never returned after the closure. Now, Disneyland is reopening a Tomorrowland attraction in the heart of the land that has sat dormant since that time.
This summer Disneyland is actively working to pull in young families with their kids $50 per day ticket deal. This attraction reopening seems to be tied to giving more attractions for families and those who need a place to escape the heat. Let’s get into the details. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including info on the new free Star Wars experience and 12 new offerings coming this summer to Disneyland.

Disneyland Brings Back Tomorrowland Attraction
When Disneyland closed, the Tomorrowland Theater, which was previously known as the Magic Eye Theater before that, was home to the Star Wars: Path of the Jedi movie. The theater was also used to play different movie previews throughout the course of the Star Wars movie run. Before the Star Wars offering, this theater was home to the Michael Jackson Captain Eo movie. Since the parks reopened in 2021, the theater has not been used for any guest offerings.

Now, Disneyland is bringing back this capacity to Tomorrowland with a new Pixar Short Film Spotlight. The offering is debuting on May 22, 2026.
The offering is now listed on the app and on signage outside the theater. The app lists the experience as being open from 11 am to 6 pm.
The app describes the offering: “Enjoy an 18-minute collection of beloved Pixar shorts, featuring Luxo Jr., Lou, and Smash and Grab.”

This addition comes as Disneyland is launching Kids Rule Summer, a promotion of the different offerings coming this summer that are great for families. All of these additions build on the existing popularity of the Bluey experience in Fantasyland that opened earlier this spring.
Disneyland is also rolling out a new scavenger hunt for the entire family this summer.
While the news isn’t the biggest of the week by any stretch, seeing Disneyland prioritize opening up a theater space is a good sign for the future. If used correctly, a venue like this or, on a much bigger scale, the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure can be people eaters that pull guests out of the parks and reduce the feeling of crowds even if actual crowds remain high.

The last couple of months have been crowded at Disneyland as we captured in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar. The California Resident ticket has now wrapped up, but in the final weeks it produced big crowds and demand for the theme parks as people used the final days on their tickets. Having shows and entertainment provides more value for guests and engages them for longer periods of time and reduces the feeling in the parks.
Pixar Short Films reopening will not change this, but knowing that Disneyland is looking at opening back up an asset like this to give guests a place to escape the heat and be out of the crowds is a good sign. Perhaps we could even eventually get a limited run of the Captain EO film in this space again that would make this a real draw.
What do you think of this news to reopen the Tomorrowland Theater? Do you ever take time to go in here? Do you appreciate the inside air conditioned break?
