Expansion of Magic Kingdom Ferry Boat Fleet
Currently, guests staying overnight at a Walt Disney World hotel can take complimentary bus rides to all the theme parks, including Magic Kingdom. Buses drop off guests directly outside the park entrance. This is not the case for guests driving their own vehicles or taking a rideshare service (except Minnie Vans) to Magic Kingdom. These guests park at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), located about a mile away from Magic Kingdom, across the Seven Seas Lagoon. From there, they can take a monorail or ferry boat to the park.

Disney just announced it will expand its ferry boat fleet with a fourth boat. It will be 120 feet long, with a “similar capacity, look, and feel” as the other three boats, Disney says. This is the first vessel added to the portfolio since 1976.
The new boat is currently under construction at a Florida marina and will be shipped in pieces to its new home in the coming weeks. It will officially debut in the Seven Seas Lagoon sometime in 2027, though Disney did not announce an exact opening date.

By increasing from three to four ferries, Disney can theoretically improve the efficiency of its massive task of moving thousands of people across a lake from a parking lot to a theme park. If all four boats are operating, that means less time waiting for another dispatch. Even if one boat is down for maintenance, the addition of a fourth boat means operations won’t be as strained when one is out of commission.
Disney filed permits with the local Florida government earlier this year to expand the queue for the Magic Kingdom’s ferry boat dock on the park side. Now we can see how this may have been in anticipation of adding a fourth boat to the portfolio.
New Boat Named After Disney Luminary

Magic Kingdom has a tradition of naming each ferry boat after an important leader in Disney World history. The new vessel will be named the Meg Gilbert Crofton, named after the Walt Disney World President from 2006 to 2013. Crofton’s Disney career spanned more than three decades, starting with the company in 1977 as a marketing manager.
Crofton’s portrait, pictured above, will hang on the first deck of the new ferry boat. She is also among the select few distinguished individuals to have a window on Main Street, U.S.A.
“I was humbled to learn that my name would be on this new ferryboat,” said Crofton. “It means so much to be recognized by the cast members I had the privilege of working with for so many years.”
The three ferry boats currently in the fleet are named after the following leaders:
- Admiral Joe Fowler, former Senior VP of Engineering and Construction at The Walt Disney Company, and a Navy admiral
- General Joe Potter, former VP of Florida Planning at The Walt Disney Company, and an Army general
- Richard F. Irvine, former Executive VP and Chief Operations Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering
Magic Kingdom’s Next Act

The additional ferry boat should help with the consistently high demand at Magic Kingdom, which is likely to grow even more as the park opens new attractions in the coming years.
Piston Peak National Park will be a new area in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland featuring two rides themed to Pixar’s Cars.
Villains Land will be an entirely new land at Magic Kingdom dedicated to the classic antagonists of Walt Disney Animation Studios films.
Piston Peak and Villains Land are under construction on adjacent plots in the northwest corner of Magic Kingdom. They replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, which permanently closed in 2025, and physically expand the park into previously undeveloped territory.
In the short term, Magic Kingdom is ready for an exciting summer season. The park just reopened Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin after a lengthy refurbishment, and will do the same for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on May 3. Come May 26, a new entertainment offering called Jessie’s Roundup: A Rip-Roarin’ Revue! will open inside The Diamond Horseshoe as part of Cool KIDS’ SUMMER.
