Disneyland Weather in Anaheim California – Monthly Historical Temps & Rainfall

The weather at Disneyland in Anaheim, California is a lot more consistent and predictable compared to the unpredictable weather at Walt Disney World in Florida. We dive into the historical monthly data so that you can consider the weather when planning your trip.

There's a lot to consider when planning your Disneyland vacation. Especially if you’re used to the unpredictable Walt Disney Weather, knowing the major differences in weather between Disneyland and Walt Disney World could mean the difference between a magical time and shivering during the nighttime spectaculars. We’ve spent plenty of time throughout the year at The Happiest Place on Earth and done our research so that you can still have a magical vacation.

Whereas the weather in Walt Disney World tends to produce unpredictable thunderstorms especially in the mid-to-late summer months, the weather in Disneyland rarely produces rain – and when it does, the rain is almost always cold. Whereas Walt Disney World sees hot, humid weather in the summer, Disneyland sees drier, more pleasant weather. Whereas the cold Winter weather in Walt Disney World tends to be more moderate, Disneyland can see much cooler temperatures.

Let’s go over the month-by-month weather at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and discuss the most common weather patterns you can expect on your next vacation. We at Mickey Visit enjoy visits to Disneyland every week and have our top pros and cons for each month of the year based on these frequent visits.

Disneyland Weather Overview

Disneyland Castle at night

Compared to the rest of the city of Anaheim, Disneyland And Disney California Adventure tend to feel several degrees warmer or cooler than what your phone’s weather app says.

Disneyland Park tends to be on the warmer side than what the weather forecast says. There’s several possible reasons for this. It could be the nature of the pavement. It could be the smaller, more homey nature of the park that keeps guests closer together. Maybe it’s the lack of of a body of water that usually helps keep temperatures lower. Either way, when it comes to the day time and especially in the summer months, expect to wear lighter clothing, pack sunglasses and a hat, and put on plenty of sunscreen.

Disney California Adventure, on the other hand, tends to feel a little cooler and more breezy – this is especially true at night. Likely due to the waters of Paradise Bay and the more open nature of the theme park, expect to be prepared with a sweatshirt or light jacket. Beware though – the more open areas of Disney California Adventure still exposes you to the heat of the sun in the daytime.

The California sun and lower humidity compared to Walt Disney World makes a world of difference. Sunny summer days make being under the sun feel significantly hotter, making the shade prime real estate for guests trying to escape the heat. An umbrella can be vey useful to curb the heat and double as protection from the rare rainy days!

One thing that remains constant is the path of the sun: with the sun rising in the East, the sun shines the most first in Tomorrowland and then toward Adventureland as the day progresses.

And while there’s a general pattern to the weather in Disneyland, it’s important to be prepared for anything. Let’s go over the month-by-month forecast.

With the more moderate temperatures, expect to wear a sweatshirt, beanie, and gloves for the cooler mornings and evenings. Tack on a comfortable pair of pants and a hat and sunglasses for the daytime sun and you’ll be set.

February

Lunar New Year

  • Average High Temperature: 71F/22C

Expect the weather to be very similar to that of January. The biggest difference is the amount of expected rain in February. Be prepared with a raincoat and umbrella if the rain hits. Warm clothes for the cooler mornings and evenings will also be extremely useful! Additionally, this is the month of the Lunar New Year Celebration at Disneyland, so expect crowd levels to increase.

March

Disneyland Weather Food and Wine Festival

  • Average High Temperature: 73F/23C
  • Average Low Temperature: 51F/11C
  • Average Rainfall: 1.90”/48.3mm – Expect rain for 4-5 days of the month
  • Pros: The most pleasant weather of the year
  • Cons: Crowd levels rise even higher as schools are on Spring break

During March, expect 7 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 1 day of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 13 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

Although the temperatures start to trend upward, the weather is still arguably the most pleasant of the year. Expect to see the pink, blooming flowers on the tabebuia. Moreover, watch for the spring break crowds and foodies crowding the parks to catch the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. Although there’s still a chance of rainy and cooler nights, come prepared to start and end the day with a long sleeve or light jacket and then remove the layers in the daytime.

April

Haunted Mansion

  • Average High Temperature: 76F/24C
  • Average Low Temperature: 53F/12C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.80”/20.3mm – Expect rain for 2 days of the month

During April, expect 9 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 2 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 7 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

Just like how February tends to follow January, April tends to follow March with its mild temperatures. Expect to start and end your theme park day with a long sleeve or light jacket and remove the layers in the daytime as temperatures rise. As temperatures continue to trend upward, also expect more sun – be prepared with hats, sunglasses, and of course, sunscreen! There’s still an influx of Spring break crowds since many schools stagger their vacations, the Food and Wine Festival still brings in the foodies, and with Easter around the corner, even more guests come into the theme parks.

May

San Fransokyo

  • Average High Temperature: 78F/26C
  • Average Low Temperature: 57F/14C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.28”/7.1mm – Expect rain for less than 1 day of the month
  • Pros: Lull in crowds between Spring and Summer break
  • Cons: Cloudy mornings and evenings increase the overall humidity

During May, expect 10 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 2 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 1 day of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

The marine layer tends to come in mid-May and lasts until the end of June, making for gray mornings and cloudy evenings. This makes May one of the most humid months. However, this is still a stark contrast with Orlando. For comparison, May shows about 55% humidity compared to Orlando’s 71%. So while May in Disneyland may have some muggy mornings that require a light outer layer, expect the clouds to burn off in the afternoon. Still be prepared with short sleeves, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen!

June

Disneyland Monorail

  • Average High Temperature: 81F/27C
  • Average Low Temperature: 61F/16C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.10”/2.5mm – Expect rain for less than 1 day of the month
  • Pros: Cloudy mornings and evenings make temperatures feel cooler
  • Cons: Above average crowds as schools are off for the Summer

During June, expect 16 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 3 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 0 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

Temperatures definitely rise during June. However, with the May marine layer seeping into June, expect the clouds to help curb the heat of the sun. This doesn’t mean you should put away your sunscreen though! UV rays tend to be stronger when it’s cloudy, so remember to apply sunscreen throughout the day! Along with the short sleeves and shorts, pack your patience – crowd levels continue to rise into the summer.

July

Disneyland Carousel

  • Average High Temperature: 87F/31C
  • Average Low Temperature: 65F/18C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.03”/0.76mm -Expect rain for less than 1 day of the month
  • Pros: Warmer nights mean less need for a jacket
  • Cons: Temperatures skyrocket!

During July, expect 27 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 8 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 0 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

By June, the marine layer goes away. Combine this with the rising temperatures, and you’ve got hot, dry weather. Come prepared with a hat, short sleeves, shorts, and of course, sunscreen. Cooling towels and fans come in handy as well. This is where shady areas are prime real estate to get away from the heat of the sun and a parasol/umbrella is likely useful to carry around! Taking time out of the theme park to cool down in the pool is another great idea. Finally, with the low temperatures in the 60s F, you’re unlikely to need an extra layer for the warmer nights.

August

Disneyland Ancient Sanctum

  • Average High Temperature: 89F/32C
  • Average Low Temperature: 65F/18C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.01”/0.25mm – Expect rain for less than 1 day of the month
  • Pros: Crowd levels taper off toward the end of the month
  • Cons: The hottest month of the year

During August, expect 29 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 11 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 0 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

There’s no denying it: August is hot and dry. Yes, bring short sleeves, shorts, a hat, and sunglasses. Yes, keep applying sunscreen. Absolutely bring a cooling towel and/or fan. But also, arrive early to take advantage of the cooler mornings. Take a mid-day break at your resort or hotel and then come back in the late afternoon to catch the shows and entertainment as the midday temperatures drop. And of course, stay hydrated throughout the day! Finally, as kids start to get back to school, expect the crowd levels to decrease dramatically toward the end of the month.

September

Disneyland Railroad Station

  • Average High Temperature: 87F/31C
  • Average Low Temperature: 63F/17C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.25”/6.4mm – Expect rain for less than 1 day of the month
  • Pros: The least crowded month of the year
  • Cons: Temperatures stay hot and sometimes reach triple digits

During September, expect 26 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 11 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 0 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

Just because the number of hotter days starts to decrease doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect high temperatures. While September weather can be somewhat unpredictable, expect the weather to be fairly similar to August. This is also the start of Halloween season at Disneyland, so just because the crowd levels are generally lower than the rest of the year, expect some busier wait-times at the end of the month.

October

Disneyland Oogie Boogie

  • Average High Temperature: 82F/28C
  • Average Low Temperature: 58F/14C
  • Average Rainfall: 0.72”/18.3mm – Expect rain for 1-2 days of the month
  • Pros: Temperatures drop toward the end of the month
  • Cons: With Halloween season in full swing, crowd levels rise

During October, expect 18 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 7 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 2 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

While the first half of October is still hot, temperatures drop significantly in the second half of the month. Just in time for Oogie Boogie Bash in Disneyland, the weather becomes much more pleasant. Since this month sparks a big transition in temperature, make sure to keep an eye on the weather to determine what to wear.

November

Grand Californian Choir Christmas

  • Average High Temperature: 76F/24C
  • Average Low Temperature: 52F/11C
  • Average Rainfall: 1.38”/35.1mm – Expect rain for 3 days of the month
  • Pros: Crowd levels taper off and decrease for the first half of November
  • Cons: Temperatures can be unpredictable and rainy days start to increase

During November, expect 9 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 2 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 10 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

While the first part of November sees generally lower crowds as Halloween ends, temperatures are generally unpredictable. Some days can see highs above 80F/27C but still drop below 50F/10C. Additionally, you might experience 1 day with extremely high temperatures and the next day with temperatures 10-15 degrees cooler. While layers are your best friend, our top tip here is to keep an eye on the weather forecast right before you arrive in Disneyland. You never know if you’ll need to change your outfit choices last-minute! November also sees an increase in rainfall, so be prepared with rain jackets and/or an umbrella.

December

Disneyland it’s a small world Christmas

  • Average High Temperature: 70F/21C
  • Average Low Temperature: 47F/8C
  • Average Rainfall: 2.02”/51.3mm – Expect rain for 5 days of the month
  • Pros: The cold is more moderate, the Holiday season in Disneyland is in full swing!
  • Cons: Coldest month of the year; higher crowds, especially around Christmas

During December, expect 3 days of temperatures above 80F/27C and 0 days of of 90F/31C or higher. Expect 22 days of temperatures below 50F/10C, especially at night.

Although December sees some of the coldest temperatures of the year, the California weather still makes Disneyland much more moderate compared to other parts of the country. Definitely dress warm and in layers, especially at nighttime. Hats or beanies, gloves, and even a scarf to top off your light jacket will come in handy. However, December still sees some warm midday weather, so be prepared to put away the outer layers. Disneyland also sees a massive spike in crowds as schools are out for Winter break and the crowds come in to celebrate the Holiday season. As with all other holiday times at Disneyland, remember to pack your patience!

Which Time of Year is Best at Disneyland?

Disneyland Flag Ceremony

In the end, there is still a degree of unpredictability in the weather at Disneyland – though, not as unpredictable as its East Coast neighbor. However, from our month-by-month weather roll call, there are certainly a few trends that will help making plan your vacation a lot easier. Let’s recap some of the most notable trends in the weather in Disneyland.

Spring and Fall Weather is the Most Moderate

Storybook Land Canal boats

These 2 seasons are best for those who relate to Goldilocks: they don’t want it too hot or too cold. They want it just right.

Although May tends to be more humid due to the marine layer and November temperatures can be all over the place, these 4 months still bring the most moderate temperatures compared to the rest of the year. The average high temperature in these 2 seasons is 76F/24C while the average low is 53F/12C. The UV index is generally lower, meaning the sun won’t sting as much and your risk of sunburn is lower compared to Summer months.

During the Spring months of March, April, and May, the flowers are blooming and the tabebuia trees show off their beautiful colors. Coming off the winter temperatures, rainfall also drops significantly, making it much easier to enjoy more time in the theme parks. In line with the Spring season, Disney California Adventure puts on its popular Food and Wine Festival in early March, bringing in the Spring break crowds and foodies. As the days start to get longer, plan to enjoy between 12 to 14 hours of sunlight per day.

During the Fall months of late October, November, and early December, the average high temperatures start to drop and the air becomes more crisp. This time of year offers a comfortable blend of warmth and sunlight, offering a pleasant balance between the summer heat and winter cold. Plan to enjoy between 10 and 12 hours of sunlight per day.

During these seasons, a light jacket or sweatshirt comes useful for cooler mornings and chillier evenings, but a short-sleeve and shorts are certainly comfortable for midday weather.
Since the weather is most moderate, Spring and Fall are the most enjoyable times of the year.

Summer and Winter Weather is the Most Extreme

Avenger’s Campus at night

Both the Summer and Winter months offer weather on the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Summer weather in Disneyland is hot and dry. Shorts, a short sleeve shirt, light colored clothing, hat, and sunglasses are essentials. On the other hand, Winter is chillier and wetter. Extra layers, a raincoat, and umbrella will all be handy.

The Summer months of June, July, August, and September bring in the sun-kissed Southern California weather everyone expects, with an average high temperature of 86F/30C and an average low temperature 64F/18C. Summer days see the most amount of sunlight, with as much as 14 hours of sunlight per day in July. If you can, plan for a mid-day pool break from the theme parks! Of course, the Summer months also bring high crowds at Disneyland, with schools out on Summer break.

If Summer is hot and dry, Winter is cold and wet. December, January, and February see some of the lowest temperatures of the year, with an average high temperature of 71F/22C and an average low temperature of 48F/9C. Rainfall also reaches its peak in February with an average rainfall of 3.08”/78.2mm. Layers, a beanie, rain jacket, and an umbrella are key during this time of year.

The tradeoff, however, is the lower crowd levels (aside from the Holiday season). Especially in January and early February, crowd levels dip, making for a quieter time in the theme parks.

Overall, the Summer and Winter Seasons tend to be polar opposites.

Final Thoughts

Luigis attraction at night in Cars Land

Similar to the weather at Walt Disney World, the highest high temperatures and lowest low temperatures make the Summer and Winter months (respectively) the most extreme in weather at Disneyland.

If you strongly prefer to avoid these extremes, you’ll want to plan your trip outside of these seasons. As a double whammy, schools are off for Summer vacation and the Holiday season, bringing a spike in crowd levels during both times of the year. The only difference between these two seasons is that just after the Holiday season, crowd levels tend to drop significantly.

On the other hand, Spring and Fall bring the most moderate weather in Disneyland.

While Spring brings blossoming plants and Disney California Adventure’s Food and Wine Festival, my personal favorite is Fall – especially between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Not only do you get to see the wonderful oranges, yellows, and reds of the Fall décor. You’re also likely to avoid the Halloween and Thanksgiving crowds at Disneyland Resort.
