Disneyland Hours 2024 FAQ, Tips, & Expected Hours

Disneyland hours can fluctuate throughout the year but typically follow a similar pattern depending on the season. Unlike Walt Disney World, the Disneyland calendar is not often published far in advance which can leave a lot of guests questioning typical opening hours, entertainment times, and how to play.

How to Check Disneyland Park Hours

Disneyland usually releases its operating hours about six weeks in advance which you can find on the Disneyland website with their daily calendar. Because of this short time frame we have projections on hours based on historical data from previous years.

But usually, only the opening and closing times will be posted and the entertainment schedule itself won't be posted until about a month in advance. Disneyland is more notorious for last-minute entertainment schedules than you might see at Walt Disney World.

Disneyland Park hours will change throughout the year depending on the season, anticipated crowd levels, and this also impacts what type of entertainment is offered and how often.

What Time Does Disneyland Open?

There used to be a time when Disneyland would open at 9AM during non-peak times of the year but since the parks reopened from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Disneyland has kept the same opening time of 8AM.

We don't see too much of a variation except perhaps how long Disneyland stays open! It used to be Disneyland would regularly switch to a 9AM opening time during the “off-season” but we haven't seen that in quite some time. It seems standard practice year-round now to open at 8AM.

Can You Enter Disneyland Before it Opens?

Yes, if you have Early Entry because you are staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel then you will be able to enter Disneyland 30 minutes before the park opens. This also includes access to select rides that begin operating 30 minutes prior to opening.

But you do not have to have Early Entry to get inside Disneyland before it opens! Disneyland cast members will begin allowing guests to scan their tickets and enter the parks 15-30 minutes prior to the official opening. You will not be able to access any of the rides as the rest of the park will be blocked off with ropes. This is where the term “rope drop” comes from. But this gives you an advantage so you can line up near the attraction you want to start your day off with.

When Does Disneyland Close?

Disneyland will extend park operating hours throughout the year to accommodate crowds during peak travel times of the year. During this time you will see Disneyland open later.

• Disneyland: closes at 11PM or 12AM

This pattern of longer Disneyland hours happens most often during these times of the year:

• the first week of January
• Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend, January
• Presidents Day weekend, February
• March
• April
• June through mid-August
• September
• October
• November
• December

These times of the year reflect some of the busiest times at Disneyland including the Halloween and Christmas season, summer, and spring break. You will also see holidays extended during three-day weekends (think Presidents Day, Memorial Day, etc.) as Disneyland will anticipate more crowds during those times of the year.

Can You Stay at Disneyland After Park Closing?

When Disneyland officially closes for the night, the stores on Main Street, U.S.A. will remain open for an additional hour for guests to do their shopping. So you technically can stay inside the park for up to an hour after the official closing time. You will notice at this time that cast members begin directing guests towards Main Street, U.S.A. as all stores and other dining locations around the parks will close.

As for attractions, as long as you are in line for a ride before the park closes then you will be able to experience the attraction. For example, if Space Mountain has a wait of 60 minutes and the park closes at 10PM you will need to get in line before that time. Even if you hop in line at 9:59PM you will be able to ride! This is why it's a good strategy to save those longer lines right before the park closes so that time spent in line is when the park is closed for the day anyways.

When Does Disneyland Close During the Off-Season?

While there is truly no real off-season anymore as Disney makes an effort to release discounts and other incentives to visit the resort during all times of the year, there are times of the year with shorter Disneyland hours.

Often the operating times during the “off-season” follow this closing pattern:

• Disneyland: closes at 10PM

When Does Disneyland Close for Special Events?

Disneyland will close early for special events throughout the year but this usually only happens for the Disneyland After Dark events. 

Disneyland After Dark is a special ticketed after-hours event and guests without a ticket to this event will need to leave the park by 9PM. This is usually the only time you will see Disneyland closing at 9PM.

Does Disneyland Close for Rain?

Disneyland stays open rain or shine! It doesn't rain often at Disneyland but when it does most of the time the parks are empty as many locals will clear out for the day.

Now if Disneyland gets cases of extreme rain/monsoon weather then they might shorten the park hours for the day and make an announcement in the Disneyland app. 

Disneyland doesn't handle rain as well as Walt Disney World does as it is not built for extreme rain and many attractions will temporarily close until the weather passes.

When is Disneyland Early Entry?

Disneyland Early Entry is every day for Disney Resort hotel guests. Early entry gives you access to Disneyland Resort 30 minutes before the park opens.

If Disneyland opens at 8AM, which it usually does, then Early Entry takes place from 730AM-8AM.

Disneyland Fireworks Schedule

The Disneyland fireworks schedule is heavily dictated by the city of Anaheim. Since Disneyland is surrounded by a city, they cannot do nightly fireworks except for peak times of the year.

This means you will usually only see nightly fireworks during these times of the year:

• June, July, August
• the holiday season, usually during December

During other times of the year, fireworks will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the week. On weekdays, the show will be projections only without the added fireworks.

Fireworks are often canceled at Disneyland due to the wind which can be common in Southern California. On nights when the fireworks are canceled, Disney will do the same projection show they usually do on weekdays.

Disneyland's Fantasmic schedule follows a similar pattern with nightly shows during peak times of the year and performances only on weekends during less busy times.

Is Disneyland Open on New Year's Eve?

Yes! This is often known as being the busiest day of the year at Disneyland. Disneyland will usually stay open until 2AM on New Year's Eve.

Here are the current Disneyland hours along with the tentative hours schedule through 2024. Keep in mind that these hours are always accurate through the next six weeks and future predictions are based on past data so they are a tentative schedule. Always refer to Disneyland's website before your visit to know the exact schedule. Before cruising these hours for an idea of the most accurate hours keep in mind that some future dates we might not have on the calendars yet. These ticketed events may impact the schedules throughout the year:

• Disneyland After Dark events typically take place end of January-May which will result in early closures in those months.
• Grad Nites at California Adventure takes place in May and June in California Adventure.
• Oogie Boogie Bash takes place in California Adventure throughout September and October.
