Disneyland After Dark Tips and Strategies
- Decide if it's worth it- each group will be different but if your group is filled with night owls- then this can be a great way to enjoy a huge number of high ticket attractions without worrying about long lines! But if you have small children in your group or other members of your party that don't do well with late nights, then it might not be the best option.
- Arrive early- since your party ticket allows you entry to the park a few hours before the event begins plan on arriving at least 30 minutes in advance so you can be in line and ready to walk through those gates right as soon as you're allowed in to utilize every second you can get.
- Use the hours prior to the party wisely- consult the list of attractions and events available during the party and make a note of what you want to do that is not on these lists. Use those few hours before the party officially starts to check those items off your list.
- Take advantage of special entertainment- you really should look at this event to have fun with the specially themed entertainment as priority- otherwise there's really not much point in attending!
- Use this on an off day from the parks- if you plan on doing one of these events then I suggest doing this ticketed event on a day you're not planning on using a regular park ticket. Spend the day sleeping in and relaxing at your hotel pool to rest up for the big night ahead.

How far in advance can we purchase tickets to these events? For example Star Wars nite how far in advance can one buy tickets for this event?
Tickets usually go on sale 3-4 months before each event date. Most of these events have tickets available now- look at the dates for each event to see which ones you can purchase now. They will sell out so buy them soon!
I still have my opening day ticket. A set of tickets were given to my dad by Walt when dad was a Disney writer. Among Tom Blackburn’s credits is the Davy Crockett series of five show and the iconic and immensely popular (at that time) The Ballad Of Davy Crockett. I am now 90, can’t afford the preposterously expensive admission for self, wife, and a couple of grand children and at my age I don’t understand why I have to sign up for attractions in a mad scramble when the park opens. If I could afford to go I don’t want to get there that early. Looking at Disney After Dark I see what the themes are but no clear explanation of what the program is and how it works. Does it require daytime entry? Is this a separate after-hours program? How late does it run? Are all attractions in operation? What is cost?
Hi Gary, that is an incredible story about your father. Thank you for commenting. The events require a separate ticket as they are an after-hours program. Most of the attractions are in operation. You can see some of the Disneyland ticket prices including for after hours events discussed here.
We have Disneyland tickets and hotel reservations for February 6, 7, and 8. We purchased park hopper tickets and made reservations for Disneyland the 6th and 8th and California Adventure the 7th. We just now saw the information about Sweetheart’s Nights for two of those days. What time will we have to leave Disneyland on those days? Do you have any suggestions on how we might best navigate the park during those days? We have 5 adults, a nine year old boy and 6 year old girl. Thank you!
Disneyland Park will likely closed at 8 pm for you on the Sweethearts Nite evenings. We discuss the specific hours and closures in our Disneyland early closures article here. I would generally share the same tips that we have for all mornings. Utilize our Disneyland morning rope drop strategy and our Disney California Adventure morning rope drop strategy. You’ll still have a great trip, but it’s important to plan in advance.
