Free Water Park Admission
In addition to the four main theme parks, Walt Disney World has two water parks: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Guests staying at any Disney World hotel receive free admission to the water parks on their check-in day at certain times of the year.

There is no special reservation required to receive the free water park admission perk.
Since Disney very rarely sells partial-day theme park admission, the water park benefit is a great option to kick off your vacation with some fun without spending money on a full-day theme park ticket, especially for those arriving midday.
This perk was first introduced in 2025, when it was valid for the whole year. Starting in 2026, the water park benefit was only offered during the summer, valid from May 26 through September 8. Disney has announced that free water park admission on check-in day will return for summer 2027, but has not revealed specific dates.

Disney Character Caravan
The Disney Character Caravan is a van that travels to hotels throughout Walt Disney World. At each stop, a small group of Disney characters hops out to greet guests around the lobby area.
You never know when or where the Character Caravan might show up, but its stops usually happen from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. It’s less the type of experience you hunt down and more of a surprise if you happen to catch it.
Separately from the van, Mickey and friends are visiting the following hotels regularly through September 8, 2026, as part of Cool KIDS’ SUMMER: Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. Consult with a cast member at your front desk for the characters’ appearance times.
Holiday Decorations
The extensive holiday season décor and special events inside Disney World’s theme parks get a lot of attention, as they should, because they’re wonderful, but equally delightful are the holiday decorations at the Disney World hotels.
Many details of architecture and prop design are worth “stopping to smell the roses” throughout Disney theme parks, and that is especially true of the detail and intentionality behind each holiday decoration hung throughout the hotels.
Every hotel has its own huge Christmas tree, each one decorated to match the hotel’s theme. For example, the tree at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has ornaments resembling African masks, and the tree at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort substitutes garland with a film strip of animation sketches.
Some of the most elaborate displays include a carousel made of gingerbread at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and a miniature village at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.
Note that the famous life-size gingerbread house is no longer part of the holiday season at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Electrical Water Pageant
Most of the resorts near Magic Kingdom advertise their views of the park’s nightly fireworks, which are indeed awesome. Less discussed is another fun nighttime show, the Electrical Water Pageant.
This spectacle is true vintage Disney. It debuted in the ’70s and shows its age, but it has a lot of charm. The show consists of several barges that illuminate with analog-looking imagery depicting everything from a sea monster to the American flag. It’s like a parade of giant Lite-Brites on water.
The Electrical Water Pageant floats along the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake nightly. It makes stops in front of the shores of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
Showtimes for each stop are posted in the My Disney Experience app, but I’ve found these to sometimes be unreliable. If seeing the show is important to you, double-check the timing with a cast member at your front desk.
Travel Items for Babies
Guests traveling with infants or toddlers can save money and packing space by not needing to worry about several items that Disney provides free of charge.

- Bed bumpers
- Bottle warmer and sterilizer
- Diaper disposal
- Infant-sized bathtub
- Night light
- Stroller storage
- Pack ’n Play travel crib
- Refrigeration
- Bathroom stepping stool
Guests can request any or all of the items listed above for free at the front desk upon arrival or before their trip when booking with a travel agent or our travel partner, Get Away Today.
Movie Nights
Every Disney World hotel hosts outdoor movie nights at least once a week, with the film projected onto an inflatable screen near a lawn or pool area. The movie selections are always family-friendly Disney films.
The movie night atmosphere is often very calm, with plenty of space to spread out. This is a nice alternative for families looking for low-key nighttime entertainment to avoid the crowds and effort of seeing a fireworks show or nighttime spectacular inside a theme park.
Consult your hotel’s activity calendar for the movie night schedule. While we’re on the subject, the activity calendar is a great resource to have handy in general for other programming happening throughout your resort, such as pool parties or fitness classes. Every hotel has its own activity calendar, often displayed on signage in common areas and available digitally via QR code.
Animal Kingdom Lodge Tour
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to the world’s largest selection of African art outside of Africa itself. You could easily spend a few hours strolling through the grounds and taking in all the incredible artwork.
Much of the art has symbolic meaning or a fascinating history of its origins, and Disney provides a unique offering to learn about it all.
Guests can take a free guided tour of the art on display in Jambo House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. No reservations are required. Simply meet the cast member at the medallion in the lobby.
At the time of this writing, this tour is offered Mondays through Fridays at 11:00 AM, but consult the resort’s activity schedule upon your arrival to double-check.
Tie Dye Activity
For $20, guests can tie-dye a white t-shirt with Mickey Mouse’s silhouette at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Cast members provide all the materials and are on hand to help.
Consult Pop Century’s activity schedule once your trip begins to learn when this activity takes place.
This is a fun activity that connects with Pop Century’s retro theming, and the cheapest t-shirt souvenir you’ll find in Disney World. See our report from when we tried out the tie-dye t-shirt activity.
Sangria University
For $69, guests can learn how to make their own sangria and sip on signature drinks during Sangria University in Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
With engaging cast members, a laid-back atmosphere, and an incredible venue, Sangria University is one of the best values for adults at Disney World. Read our review of our recent Sangria University experience.
