Super Nintendo World is coming to Universal Orlando with the addition of Epic Universe opening in 2025. This brand new land will feature rides dedicated to Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and more.

Super Nintendo World theme park lands have already appeared at Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Hollywood. Those versions of Nintendo theme park lands give Orlando theme park fans a reasonable idea of what to expect at Super Nintendo World Orlando.

Super Nintendo World Orlando will be the third Nintendo-themed land coming to Universal theme parks. Super Nintendo World Orlando opens in 2025 when Universal’s Epic Universe opens in Universal Orlando Resort. Keep reading for everything we know about Super Nintendo World coming to Epic Universe in 2025 with NEW announced details!

When Does Super Nintendo World Orlando Open?

Nintendo video game fans must wait until 2025 to experience the Orlando version of Super Nintendo World. Super Nintendo World Orlando will open in conjunction with Universal’s Epic Universe opening day.

Universal’s Epic Universe will open May 22, 2025. Super Nintendo World will also be included in Early Entry for those staying on-site at Universal Orlando hotels.

What Attractions Should Guests Expect at Super Nintendo World Orlando?

Universal Orlando has confirmed that three major attractions will be at Super Nintendo World, the Orlando version when it opens in 2025. Those rides are:

  • Yoshi’s Adventure, an omnimover-style attraction for the entire family
  • Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, found at both Universal Studios Japan (different ride name in Japan) and Hollywood
  • Donkey Kong: Mine Cart Madness: a Donkey Kong themed rollercoaster inspired by the Donkey Kong levels in the Super Nintendo games.

Let's get into all the new details released for Universal Orlando's Epic Universe! Most notably, we are are very excited to see Mine Cart Madness confirmed!

Donkey Kong: Mine Cart Madness

One of the most highly anticipated rides coming to Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe is the Mine-Cart Madness rollercoaster. This entire attraction is inspired by the iconic mine cart levels in the original Donkey Kong video games on Super Nintendo. Mine-Cart Madness will be a part of Donkey Kong Country which will be on the edge of Super Nintendo World where guests can enjoy a lush, tropical landscape featuring tall trees, waterfalls, landmarks such as The Golden Temple and more.

Along with the Mine-Cart Madness rollercoaster, guests will also be able to enjoy a tropical menu and merchandise offerings inspired by the Donkey Kong Country video games.

Mine-Cart Madness is a purely traditional rollercoaster with no screens as guests hop into a mine cart and fly through the jungle to help Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong protect the golden banana. This ride is described as a “family coaster” which means it should have a height requirement that is reasonable enough for most ages to enjoy.

This attraction uses an unprecedented ride system and innovative technology as guests experience the same maneuvers they've seen on Donkey Kong with the mine carts getting blasted out of barrel and seemingly jump over GAPS in the coaster track.

This is easily my most anticipated attraction at Epic Universe!

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge

super Nintendo world orlando

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge creates an environment for guests that simulates the video game racing experience. This attraction uses features like projection mapping, augmented-reality glasses, immense practical sets, and interactive vehicles to put guests directly into action. Mario Kart fans will adore tossing shells, racing down the iconic Rainbow Road, dealing with random bananas, and a few more exciting Mario Kart elements from the video game.

We expect this attraction to have a 48-inch height limit at Super Nintendo World Orlando. Thus, smaller children may not be able to ride this attraction.

Also, if the Super Nintendo World Orlando version uses the same amount of space and format as the other versions, this ride will be about five minutes long. We anticipate the same themed queue seen elsewhere. This involves entering Bowser’s Castle before braving the Mario Kart experience.

Yoshi’s Adventure

The ride for the entire family will be Yoshi’s Adventure. This omnimover-style ride creates a dark ride for everyone to enjoy. Guests travel on the back of their trusted Nintendo friend Yoshi during this attraction at Universal’s Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort when it opens in 2025.

Captain Toad takes guests and Yoshi on a journey around the Mushroom Kingdom. This slow-moving ride allows guests to soak in all the goodness of the Super Nintendo World in Orlando. However, our friend Captain Toad lost his treasure map. Thus, we need to help him find three colored eggs. Finding these will lead to the prize of the Golden Egg.

This ride already exists at Universal Studios Japan. The Hollywood version of Super Nintendo World does not include this attraction, probably due to lack of space.

Super Nintendo World Orlando: Power Up Bands

super Nintendo world orlando

Power Up Bands will be a crucial part of Super Nintendo World Orlando. These interactive wearable devices allow guests to enjoy the interactive features of Super Nintendo World. Power Up Bands will be available for purchase at Universal’s Epic Universe.

We do not know the exact price that Power Up Bands will be at Super Nintendo World Orlando when it opens. However, we expect a cost of around $40-$50.

Guests buying a Power Up Ban will have access to the play activities on the land. Also, guests can use these to collect different keys and coins throughout Super Nintendo World.  These Power Up Bands enable guests to have the land open for more fun.

While using a Power Up Band, guests can enjoy active gaming experiences like mini-games and physical challenges in Super Nintendo World Orlando. We base this speculation on the existing Super Nintendo Land versions in Japan and Hollywood. You can collect coins hitting those signature question mark blocks with your Power Up Band.

The Power Up Bands, In Hollywood, currently feature designs based on Super Nintendo characters, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toadstool, and Yoshi. Once you have your Power-Up band, you register it to your Universal mobile app, allowing you to track your progress while you journey through the Mushroom Kingdom.

According to Universal, the Power Up Bands make a good investment for world travelers. These bands will work in Japan, Hollywood, and Orlando when its version of Super Nintendo World opens. Theme park fans should be happy that the Power Up Bands work like the Wizarding World wands in terms of functioning in more than one Universal theme park. These energetic and fun interactive games will further enhance the kinetic experience within Super Nintendo World Orlando.

Super Nintendo World Orlando Dining

Dining options at Super Nintendo World Orlando will feature the popular Toadstool Cafe which has been a hit in Universal Studios Hollywood.

Yoshi's Snack Island and Turbo Boost Treats will offer walk up dining for guests to grab treats, snacks, and beverages.

Toadstool Café at Universal’s Epic Universe

We expect that Super Nintendo World Orlando’s version of Toadstool Café will display an elevated version of quick-service theme park cuisine. This assumption comes from chatting with Universal Orlando Resort food & beverage team members. Also, we can look at Universal Studios Hollywood and see its version of Toadstool Café.

In Orlando, guests should expect a variety of cuisine “designed by Chef Toad.” Guests should encounter Chef Toad (sort of) when they enter the café. With all the expected animated screens, guests will find plenty to entertain themselves while dining at Toadstool Café. Menu items in Hollywood, expected in Orlando, include Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Super Mushroom Soup, Piranha Plant Caprese, Mario Bacon Cheeseburger, Luigi Pesto Chicken Burger, and a Princess Peach Cupcake.

Toadstool Café at Super Nintendo World Orlando will utilize a version of mobile ordering and table delivery. Universal Orlando Resort uses this system at several of its quick service locations now, like at Illumination’s Minion Café. Team members have continuously told us that this system will be used at new Universal’s Epic Universe quick service dining options that are not snack stands or kiosks.

This table delivery system involves guests waiting to enter the restaurant. After that, a Universal Orlando team member walks you to your table. You then use the Universal Orlando Resort mobile app to order from the restaurant. A team member then brings you the dining order.

Yoshi's Snack Island and Turbo Boost Treats

Regarding the potential Yoshi-themed snack stand, we have very little information on what treats will be offered. We will be surprised if the same menu items in Japan come to Super Nintendo World Orlando. Those menu items feature things based on Indian and Japanese cuisine. Logic dictates that some of those items might appear in Orlando. However, we expect a scaled-down version for the average visitor to Orlando.

Personally, we would love some of the unique food items from Universal Studios Japan. Chefs from Universal’s international parks have designed menus for seasonal events, like Halloween Horror Nights, at Universal Orlando Resort before. These menus might have served as test runs for Universal’s Epic Universe. On this, we will need to wait and see.

Popcorn stands, and refillable popcorn buckets provide a staple of theme park dining. Super Nintendo World examples elsewhere continue that trend. Themed popcorn bucket should run wild at Super Nintendo World Orlando. In addition, guests should expect some unique flavors of popcorn. In Japan, for example, mushroom popcorn remains very popular. With the success of “Ba-na-na” flavored popcorn at Illumination’s Minion Land at Universal Orlando Resort, guests seem to love different flavored popcorn during their vacation. Universal’s Epic Universe should capitalize on this knowledge by creating some fantastic Nintendo-themed popcorn.

Super Nintendo World Orlando Shopping

super Nintendo world orlamdo

No theme park area lacks opportunities for guests to create lasting memories of their vacation by purchasing merchandise. Super Nintendo World Orlando will offer the 1-UP Factory and Mario Motors where guests can shop for souvenirs, apparel, toys and more inspired by their favorite Super Mario characters.

The 1-UP Factory will most likely offer an extensive selection of merchandise from Mario and Luigi-themed apparel, iconic character hats, and an array of plush characters, including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser should be seen there. The version of this store at Universal Studios Hollywood draws crowds to buy the unique merchandise. We also expect this merchandise location to offer excellent Nintendo theming, too. The visual merchandising team at Universal Orlando Resort consistently designs amazing permanent and short-term shopping experiences.

Super Nintendo World Orlando Characters

Character interactions in Super Nintendo World include Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad.

The Super Nintendo World characters have blinking eyes moving mouths, and sometimes speak a few words. We would expect that level of character meet and greets in Orlando.
