One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Next Steps of Disneyland Resort Expansion Announced
Last week, I attended a resort update presentation from the new President of the Disneyland Resort, Thomas Mazloum. During the presentation, he shared information about Disneyland’s positive impacts on Anaheim, California and Southern California broadly. A researcher from Tourism Economics, a division of Oxford Economics, was on hand and revealed an eye-popping number. Disneyland generated $16.1 billion in annual economic impact across Southern California and supports more than 102,000 jobs in the Southern California region (directly and indirectly).
We also learned more about Disney’s commitment to volunteering in the community and heard more about their internal efforts to support Cast Members. They ended the presentation with some major news from Disneyland regarding future expansion plans for the resort! Thomas was joined onstage by Emo O’Brien, the Disneyland Site Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, to share updates on projects at the resort.
The biggest news was the announcement of a new parking structure and transportation hub on the east side of the resort. This new area will have about 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening, and dedicated access for traffic off of Disney Way, as well as a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard that leads to a new esplanade. You can see details about this major upcoming project and concept art of the new esplanade arrival experience here. This concept artwork looks stunning.
During the announcement, it was mentioned that this new transportation hub is what “unlocks DisneylandForward” and enables future growth by allowing Disney California Adventure to expand out into the current transportation area for the new Avatar land. Another big piece of this announcement was that in order to make this Avatar expansion possible, a classic ride in Disney California Adventure will be closing. You can see all the details about that closure in our separate article here.
The last piece of news was that we received more details about the Coco ride at Disney California Adventure, including new concept art and its location in the park! The ride will be built near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier in areas that are mostly backstage today, which is what we predicted in our article discussing where the new rides in Disney California Adventure would go.
They also reiterated their excitement about the new Avengers Campus additions where two new rides are coming. You can see all the details on the new Avengers Campus E-Ticket ride and the new Iron Man Tony Stark ride here. You can also see our most recent Avengers Campus construction update here.
Generally, I am thrilled to see these new additions forward, even if I am disappointed to lose Monsters Inc. In particular, Coco stands out to me as an exciting new attraction that has a ton of room to impress. I’ll do a more in-depth look at when these new attractions could open at Disneyland soon.
Important Disneyland Dates This Week

The Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary Celebration Collection is now available. Some of the items dropping include the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Dooney & Bourke tote, Disneyland 70th Anniversary balloon popcorn bucket ornament, and more. There will also be a few more releases this week! On Wednesday, June 11, the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Walt Disney Nostalgia Collection will drop, followed by the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Castle Collection on Monday, June 16. Check out photos of all of the Disneyland 70th anniversary merchandise in our separate article here.
- Grad Nite parties take place at Disney California Adventure this week on Wednesday, June 11, and Friday, June 13. The park will close at 9 pm on these dates. - Disneyland has revealed the special event-exclusive foods that will be available at Pride Nite! You can read about all of those in our separate article here.
- We expect that details for Oogie Boogie Bash tickets could be announced this week based on past precedent. We’ll be watching closely to share the key information with you. Last year, tickets went on sale starting on June 26, so we expect a similar timeline this year. So, if it isn’t this week it will likely be next week. You can see our guide to Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland for details about this event and specific 2025 Oogie Boogie Bash dates and tickets information.

Disneyland is celebrating Pride Month with special merchandise and a floral display in Downtown Disney as well.
- The bite-sized Monte Cristo is back at Royal Street Veranda! This is a fan-favorite dish and also a great option since prior to this dish, you could only get the full size by sitting down at Cafe Orleans. Also at Royal Street Veranda, there is a new Buffalo Chicken Beignet Slider that just debuted! This is fried chicken dipped in buffalo sauce and creamy slaw on Mickey-shaped beignets.
- The pop-up mini-golf experience, Pixar Putt, has extended its run at the Pixar Place Hotel through the summer. It was originally supposed to end on June 1, but it has been extended through August 17 due to demand. You can see photos of this cute mini-golf experience in our separate article here!

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week
This week, you can expect mostly normal crowds during the week with above normal crowds heading into the weekend. Most local schools are out for summer break now. While crowds can be noticeable during the summer, this time of year is not quite as busy as some of the peak times of the year at Disneyland, like Halloween in October and the holidays. During the summer months, it’s especially important to make good use of Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland to skip the lines for attractions! See our Disneyland Lightning Lane Multi Pass tips for making the most of the service.
You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.

Great info!
Yes, thank you for the updates. I wish they weren’t doing avatar, I would be more excited for literally anything else. Ratatouille ride would have been amazing!!
Hi Elle, I can’t say that I disagree with you about them choosing Avatar but the details on the ride make me far more interested. I also really like the Avatar Pandora area in Walt Disney World so I am more optimistic.
