Disneyland Haunted Mansion Reopening Period Announced – All Details On What’s Changing!

Disney fans are already gearing up for the fall as Disneyland has announced details of the Halloween celebration this year, including Oogie Boogie Bash ticket sale dates. While fans are excited about the special offerings during Halloween, one piece of information that Disneyland announced stood out in particular—the opening period for Haunted Mansion.

The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland has been under construction for a while now, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when we can expect it to reopen. Now, given what Disney has shared, we have a better idea of when we can expect the ride to reopen its doors to guests. The Haunted Mansion will be opening with an expanded outdoor queue, a new retail shop near the exit, and an elevator exit from the attraction for guests with disabilities, which you can read more about in our guide to the Haunted Mansion area expansion.

We will share everything you need to know about the Haunted Mansion reopening at Disneyland. Keep reading for more details!

The Disneyland Haunted Mansion will reopen as Haunted Mansion Holiday by August 23, 2024, the first day of the Disneyland Halloween season. The news came as part of a bigger set of announcements around Halloween.

Through the news we learned is that the Haunted Mansion will for sure be open by August 23, 2024, it could be open even earlier than that. Disneyland has confirmed to us that this is not necessarily the official Haunted Mansion opening date and instead a guarantee that the ride will be open by the beginning of the Halloween season. Disneyland shared that when Haunted Mansion Holiday does reopen for Halloween, it will be available via virtual queue only when it first reopens.

Haunted Mansion Holiday

As we discuss in our Haunted Mansion closure guide, we can take this news as confirmation that the Haunted Mansion will not be returning first in its normal non-holiday version. We suspected this when the ride closed at the beginning of this year in January, as it was still set up as Haunted Mansion Holiday for the interior, and it wasn't going to make very much sense for Disneyland to reopen it in its normal version only to close it to turn it back into its holiday overlay very shortly after. This means that we won't see the regular version of the Haunted Mansion until early 2025.

Also, we have been observing the construction progress during our weekly updates at the park and not seen a ton of visible progress for the queue. Of course, there is undoubtedly a lot of progress we cannot see taking place, but Disneyland may have announced this to reassure visitors that the reopening date would not be pushed later into the year like we were beginning to think it would be. We can likely expect to see a pretty dramatic transformation of the grounds taking place within the next month.

We also would not be surprised if Disneyland aimed for a soft opening of the ride (in its holiday overlay) slightly earlier than the start of the Halloween celebration. They may be aiming to have it back in operation by early August for the weekend of the D23 Expo this year which will take place August 9-11.

The new additions will build on the lore of the attraction, connecting to stories like the local legend of how the Haunted Mansion was first built by a prosperous sea captain. The expanded queue will feature new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one-eyed cat. The gardens will have unique elements like a water fountain, gazebo, and themed statuary and landscaping, as well as the greenhouse where the groundskeepers grow their plants. This will be added while retaining some of the most beloved aspects of the queue like the horse-drawn funeral hearse and pet cemetery.

There will also be a new retail shop added adjacent to the attraction's exit that will be inspired by Madame Leota. Disney previously shared that this is the “carriage house” of the mansion belonging to Madame Leota. Disneyland will also be improving accessibility during the construction and adding an elevator exit from the attraction for guests with disabilities.

The plaza adjacent to Tiana's Palace will also be getting some enhancements to transform it into an “elegant park-like setting” where guests can relax and enjoy live entertainment.
