Disneyland is in the process of adding some big new Disneyland rides to the resort, including some major additions to Disney California Adventure! A big project that is currently under construction is the expansion of Avengers Campus, which will double the size of the land with two new rides.
This expansion has been a long time coming, as the land was designed to open in two different phases, with Phase 1 introducing the rides and experiences in the land today and Phase 2 introducing a new “E-ticket” Avengers ride. Now, the Avengers Campus expansion is finally in progress, with construction having started as of early 2025. Below, we will share everything we know about the Disneyland Avengers Campus expansion, including details on the two rides coming, construction updates, and more!

Avengers Campus Expansion Overview
The Avengers Campus expansion will introduce two new rides, “Avengers Infinity Defense” and “Stark Flight Lab.” These rides are being built towards the back of the land within a backstage area that also wraps around behind Cars Land.
You can see the concept art that shows an overview of the finished land. The entrances to these two new rides can be seen to the right of the building with the Quinjet in the concept art above. These new experiences will join the other offerings in the land, including our favorite Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, Pym Test Kitchen and Pym Tasting Lab, and the various character meet-and-greets.

There are some other smaller improvements being made to the land as well. The walkway between Cars Land and Avengers Campus is currently closed as Disneyland is working on a new restroom facility and other construction. We also know that Disney has filed a permit to remodel the old FastPass distribution area in front of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! into a seating area, which is great news, as this land desperately needs more shaded seating.
Construction is currently underway, and we do not yet have a timeline for when these two new rides will be completed. You can see our most recent construction update for the Avengers Campus here. At the time of writing, it is still a dirt construction site, and nothing has gone vertical yet.
There are also some other new rides in development for Disney California Adventure, including a new Coco ride and Avatar Land, which you can read about in our guide to new rides at Disneyland.
Avengers Infinity Defense New “E-ticket” Ride Details
Avengers Infinity Defense will be a new “E-ticket” ride for the park. This language is a nod to the old ticket system that had different tiers of tickets, where an “E-ticket” would get you access to the most popular, cutting-edge attractions. Think high-demand rides like Indiana Jones Adventure, Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, etc. While this old ticketing system is no longer in use, the phrase is used to emphasize that this is intended to be a very major new ride at the park.
Avengers Infinity Defense will be a “multi-world adventure” where recruits will help the Avengers fight a new variant of the infamous villain Thanos from the Marvel films. The story of the ride is that “King Thanos” has stolen the technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds and is using it to wreak havoc. You'll see locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City in the ride.
We know that the ride will feature “physical worlds” and “a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.” We imagine that this will be similar to the ride systems at Universal that are a mix of projections on screens in 3D and physical sets. Universal has leaned into this format with great success, especially with some of the major new attractions at its new Epic Universe park like Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. We're hoping that the success of this format at Epic Universe puts some pressure on Disney to deliver a cutting-edge experience for this particular ride.
The concept art that has been revealed thus far for the ride includes an action shot of Ant-Man and Iron Man in battle:
We also have concept art of a battle in Wakanda with the Hulk, Black Panther, and the Dora Milaje.
And we have concept art of the villain of the ride, King Thanos. We really love the design of this variant of this iconic villain, who is being designed specifically for Avengers Campus. The spikes on his armor look really cool!
The unique world-jumping ride vehicle for the attraction uses elements of Tony Stark’s time suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology. You can see a look at the concept for this new ride vehicle from an episode in the “We Call It Imagineering” YouTube series below. We believe this will be very similar to another new ride. You can see that ride vehicle compared to this here.

You can see our separate article on this new Multiverse Avengers Campus ride here.
We've been hearing about this second attraction for years and look forward to it finally opening at Disney California Adventure. This version of the ride shared above is actually a shift from the original designs for this attraction that would have been based on the Quinjet and would fly guests into an immersive mission that took them to Wakanda and beyond in jet-pack style seats. That original attraction design seemed to be far more screen-based than the one that they landed on so I am pleased with the shift.
Iron Man Stark Flight Lab
The second new ride coming to Avengers Campus is Stark Flight Lab. In this attraction, you'll sit in “gyro-kinetic pods” and deploy to a test station, where a robot arm grabs your pod and whirls you around in simulated flight, making “several high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and some other Avengers.”
This ride is pretty unique and also groundbreaking for a theme park. Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Imagineering Bruce Vaughn commented on the technology being used in this new attraction. “Transferring from a track to a robot arm and then back again – nothing like this has ever been done before in a theme park, and we’re so excited about it,” Bruce explained. “Usually, we hide all the tech behind the scenes so you can focus on the story. Here, the tech IS the story, so we’re putting it front and center.”
Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for the ride. The robot arms in the attraction are inspired by Stark's robotic friend DUM-E from the films. Imagineers used dancers and motion capture to create a “virtual mirror” to incorporate some of these movements into the early ride mockups so that the robots feel lifelike, like DUM-E.
You can see our articles on this ride, including the original announcement and new details announced.
Overall, we are very excited to experience these two rides and the renewed energy they'll bring to the land and the park as a whole. While Avengers Campus is home to two great rides and some amazing character experiences, the absence of Phase 2 has been noticeable since the land opened, and these additions should do the trick to make the land feel complete and more engaging.
We think it's a wise move to keep the timeline relaxed in the land, especially for the E-ticket ride that kind of grounds itself in the success of the Infinity Saga films while also incorporating elements of the current Multiverse Saga. The enduring popularity of the Avengers films continues to be a great inspiration for this land and something that will hopefully interest fans for years to come.
