Disney World Closure Ending for Popular Character Interaction Area

Walt Disney World has a rotating calendar of ride and attraction closures. When scheduled, these typically close for short periods of time for general upkeep. Closures can be extended if problems keep popping up in the maintenance process to make sure that the ride or attraction can function safely for guests.

However, some refurbishments just take longer to complete, depending on the scope of the project. One attraction at Magic Kingdom has been closed for about six months, and it will be reopening for full operation very soon. Keep reading for the details on what to expect when this Fantasyland area opens again. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including a new Downtown Disney dining location opening soon and a contest held at Disneyland for guests to have their recipes featured on a menu.

Storybook Circus Character Meet and Greet Area Reopening

Inside of Pete's Silly Sideshow tent

The back of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom is home to Storybook Circus, a circus-themed area featuring a splash pad, a seating area, the Fantasyland railroad station, and two attractions: the Barnstormer and Dumbo the Flying Elephant. It also houses Pete’s Silly Sideshow, an indoor character meet and greet area where guests can get autographs and take photos with Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow closed back in January for refurbishment to the tent itself after lots of wear and tear. However, the meet and greets did not stop. They were just held outside rather than inside the circus tent like usual.

This area will now be reopening very soon. Disney World’s calendar shows it back in operation beginning Saturday, June 27. This means that characters will once again greet guests inside the tent, as opposed to outside. The reopening will be a welcome change for guests visiting in the upcoming summer months in order to escape the Florida heat. You can meet these characters any time from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The four characters are split into two groups of two. Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck are together as the Dashing Disney Pals, while Donald Duck and Goofy are the Daring Disney Pals. All four characters are dressed in circus performer outfits.

The neighboring Big Top Souvenirs closed back in February. There is still no reopening date on Disney World’s calendar for that shop.

As a part of the ongoing expansion of Magic Kingdom, Frontierland has seen a few closures recently. A long-standing dining location has closed, as well as a shopping spot. The food items from that dining stand can still be found elsewhere in the park.

That Magic Kingdom expansion will bring two new lands to the park, one inspired by the Cars films, and the other by the Disney villains. Construction is still fairly new, so these lands will not be open for a while.

The dates for the holiday celebrations, including the incredibly popular Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, were announced not too long ago. You can read more about the details, such as dates, ticket prices, and expected entertainment, here.
