Handmade candy canes have been a Disneyland tradition for over 50 years. There’s high demand for the treats, which are made in limited batches and released in late November through December. Since they’re only available on certain dates in Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, getting one of these signature sweets means following a specific buying process.
Since we originally reported on the 2026 candy cane release dates, the dates have now been updated and confirmed by Disney. Below, we share the new dates, offer tips for getting your candy cane this year, and take a look at the history of this popular treat. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including details on the Disneyland Space Mountain refurbishment and more information about upcoming Disney holiday TV specials and movies.

How To Get Your Disneyland Candy Cane in 2026
Disneyland uses a wristband system for candy cane distribution. We suggest arriving one hour or more before the park opens, and then going directly to Candy Palace and Candy Kitchen at Disneyland Park or Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure Park once the park opens. Expect to wait in line for your wristband, and make sure your entire party is together. There are also photo ops, like oversized candy canes with cutouts for your face.
Your wristband will have the date and a return time listed. Make sure to return to the shop on time, and plan to wait in line again to buy your candy cane.
The least-crowded dates to get the candy canes are typically after the Disneyland Magic Key Annual Pass blockout dates window in December.

History of Disneyland’s Handmade Candy Canes
Today, most candy canes are made by machine, but Disneyland’s specialty treats are made from scratch and hand-pulled. First, pulled sugar and peppermint extract are kept boiling hot to keep the sugar pliable, and the room temperature is set just below 100 degrees. The candy makers then roll, pull, and twist the sugar into its iconic shape.
You can look through the windows of the candy shops to see the candy canes being made. Some of Disneyland’s candy makers have been making the hand-pulled candy canes for more than 36 years!
For many guests, getting their made-from-scratch candy canes each year means being a part of Disneyland history.
