Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is considered the most luxurious Disney Resort hotel on property and is highlighted for being the closest hotel to Disneyland. Many rank it or another as the top hotel near Disneyland. However, many Disney adults reject that claim in favor of three notable hotels that can actually be closer to the Disneyland entrance.
These three hotels are claimed to be better than Disney’s Grand Californian due to their proximity, value, and ease of access. Let’s get into the three hotels many claim are better than Disney’s finest hotel. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including new Disney World experiences for kids and a viral Disney World snack that you’ve got to put on your list.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel Offers Proximity at Luxury Prices
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the flagship hotel of the Disneyland Resort, and the California Craftsman movement inspires its design. It is an AAA Four Diamond, award-winning property and the most luxurious of the three onsite Disneyland Resort Hotels. The price for a standard room at this resort ranges between $600-$1,120 a night, depending on the time of year you book. Prices are more often in the middle of that range, around $850 per night.

This Disney resort hotel is often advertised by Disneyland as being the closest hotel to the theme parks, most notably due to its private entrance to Disney California Adventure. While this theme park entrance is a great perk, it’s not the closest hotel to the main esplanade, which provides the entrance to both theme parks.

If we look at the walking distance on the map, the walk averages about 8 minutes from the lobby to exit the hotel and cross into Downtown Disney. This also doesn’t take into account if you have a room far from the lobby, which will make for a far longer walk due to the large size of the hotel. For many Disneyland guests who want a close walking hotel at a more reasonable price point, they opt for the three closest hotels off property, with some being even fewer steps than the Grand Californian.
All three of the following hotels can be booked through our travel partner, Get Away Today. Using our exclusive link also gets you additional deals and discounts just for Mickey Visit readers. Closest Hotel to Disneyland’s Entrance
Let’s start with the closest hotel to the Disneyland entrance: Best Western PLUS Park Place Inn and Mini-Suites. The Best Western PLUS Park Place Inn & Mini-Suites is located directly across the street from the pedestrian entrance into the Disneyland Resort. This makes this hotel literally the closest hotel to the Disneyland entrance gates out of all the nearby hotels, including all the Disney on-site hotels.
This hotel offers a free hot complimentary breakfast and averages about $430 per night for a standard room and mini-suites for around $450. The Best Western PLUS Park Place Inn & Mini-Suites offers a great value at an even shorter distance than Disney’s on-site hotels.

If you look at the map, you can see the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn & Mini Suites is only a six-minute walk from the hotel to the front Disneyland gates. This is the highest-priced hotel out of the three closest off-site hotels, due to its close proximity and free breakfast. Click here to save on this hotel now.
Tropicana Inn & Suites Offers More Affordable Access
As you could see on the map shared above, right next door is the Tropicana Inn & Suites, which is the second closest hotel to the entrance of Disneyland, just a few steps further than the Best Western. This hotel is a bit more affordable than the Best Western, averaging around $300 per night for a standard room. The interior of these rooms is bright and colorful plus there is a convenience store on the first floor.
This hotel is a fan favorite amongst many Disney adults for its close walking distance to the entrance of Disneyland, reasonable price, and bright colored rooms. This is literally just a few additional steps past the Best Western, so if you don’t need the free breakfast, you can save $100 a night by staying here instead. Click here to save on this hotel now!
Castle Theming for an Affordable Price
Just on the other side of Tropicana Inn & Suites is the Camelot Inn & Suites, which is one of the oldest hotels in the area but has undergone updates over the years. This hotel is themed to look like the exterior of a castle, a popular hotel motif in the 90s, and this theme still remains popular with kids. This hotel is also located right next door to a local McDonald’s, making it a perfect place to stop for a cheap breakfast before entering the theme parks.
The average price for Camelot Inn & Suites when you book through Get Away Today is around $299 per night, depending on the time of the year. They also offer family suites for around $400 a night.

Now, if we look at the walking distance of The Camelot Inn & Suites, we can see it’s just an eight-minute walk, which is the same exact distance from the Grand Californian lobby. So, for half the price point of the Grand Californian, you can get a hotel with the same number of steps. Click here to save on this hotel now!
Walking to Disneyland from Off-Site Hotels
This is what the walking path looks like when you exit Camelot Inn & Suites as you head down Harbor Blvd past Tropicana Inn & Suites and Best Western. It’s a brightly lit, safe walk, and all you do is cross the Harbor Blvd intersection to Disneyland. Tons of other families will be crossing with you, so it’s a safe and easy way to get to the entrance.
And above you can see the intersection you cross to enter Disneyland. This is an easy, fast walk, and makes taking breaks in the middle of the day so easy.

For another comparison, here’s the walk from the other on-property hotels: Disneyland Hotel and Pixar Place Hotel. As you can see, these hotels are even further away, giving these three off-site hotels a great advantage in proximity. According to Google Maps, Pixar Place is about a 16-minute walk from the Disneyland Hotel, about three minutes less.
