Disneyland Roller Coaster Closing for Refurbishment

Space Mountain Disneyland

Rides at Disneyland Resort undergo routine maintenance for safety and show-quality purposes. While a lot of this work is performed overnight and doesn’t require any downtime for guests, sometimes a closure, even a brief one, is unavoidable.

Space Mountain at Disneyland will be closed on November 10, 2026, for one day only. The closure period is subject to change, but Disneyland’s calendar and Space Mountain’s operating hours both display just a one-day refurbishment.

The reason for the closure has not been shared. Space Mountain does not have any seasonal overlays that would need swapping out, such as Hyperspace Mountain, and in any case, the coaster usually doesn’t close for that transition regardless.

Earlier this year, we spoke with Disneyland’s maintenance teams about their approach to ride refurbishments, including work they perform overnight.

Disneyland Autopia cars

Elsewhere in Tomorrowland, Disney has a mandate to swap Autopia’s gas engines to electric by February 1, 2027, or otherwise close the attraction to begin the installation process by that date.

In the long term, Disney will overhaul Tomorrowland, a huge project that includes new attractions. See insight from Imagineers on the ambitious Tomorrowland transformation.

Disneyland’s Space Mountain isn’t the only version of the ride that’s been in the news this week. Disney shared a new look at Space Mountain: Earthrise, opening at Tokyo Disneyland in 2027. That park’s original Space Mountain closed in 2024 and has since been demolished, replaced by a completely new build.

indiana jones adventure ride

Disneyland recently reopened Indiana Jones Adventure following a six-week refurbishment, which involved upgrading the ride’s Audio-Animatronics figures and installing larger storage pouches for riders’ belongings. Read about everything that Disney changed during Indiana Jones Adventure’s closure.

On October 30, “it’s a small world” at Disneyland will close as Disney installs the seasonal overlay for “it’s a small world” Holiday, which will open on November 13 with the rest of Disneyland’s holiday festivities.
