Walt Disney World is building massive new lands at three of its theme parks, and inevitably, this means some experiences are closing to make way for the new additions. Decades-old favorites at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom have all closed within the past year. Another longstanding establishment has now joined them and gone the way of Disney history this week.
A dining location is now closed permanently at Magic Kingdom as Disney continues work on the largest expansion in the park’s 55-year history. We have details on how the closure impacts guests and where to find its menu items now. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disney World hotel announcements impacting future stays and one of Disney World’s best experiences for adults.

Frontierland Dining Location Now Closed

Piston Peak National Park is a new area coming to Frontierland in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Based on Pixar’s Cars and inspired by the terrain of U.S. national parks, Piston Peak will feature a thrilling “off-road” ride and a gentler, family-friendly ride. See all the details on Piston Peak here.
Piston Peak will take up a huge parcel of space within Magic Kingdom that was previously part of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, which closed in 2025. Dive into the history behind these closed attractions here.

To further accommodate the Piston Peak progress, a dining location at the edge of the construction site is now closed. Westward Ho Refreshments, a food stand with an adjacent churro cart, had its final operating day on June 21, 2026.
Westward Ho Refreshments was located immediately across from Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Café, along the main thoroughfare of Frontierland. Its closure follows that of the nearby Big Al’s merchandise cart. It will allow Disney to extend the construction walls for Piston Peak into this area. This project is huge, and every bit of space matters.
The spot’s name took after Westward Ho the Wagons!, a 1956 Disney movie about a family traversing America in 1844.
