Disneyland Removing Reservation “No Show” Policy For Magic Key Annual Pass Holders

We just got big Disneyland news this morning for Magic Key Annual Pass Holders. The news comes after Disneyland announced increases on some ticket types this morning, but no pricing changes for Magic Key passes. Now, we have an update on the Magic Key Annual Pass reservation policy. This is a direct change from earlier Disney plans to keep the policy in place.

The news also comes after the changes to simplify the reservation process in the app. We have all the details and a statement from the Disneyland President that was shared today. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including the latest weekly news and new rides opening next year.

Disneyland Changing Magic Key Annual Pass Reservation Policy

Disneyland has announced a substantial change to the Magic Key Annual Pass program this morning. Disneyland officials shared that they are taking specific steps to improve the experience of visiting Disneyland. This directly connects with my recent interview with the new President of Disneyland, Jill Estorino, who shared that she is deeply focused on understanding the guests and hospitality.

The Magic Key program is changing based on feedback from pass holders. Today, Estorino is sending an email to all Magic Key Holders sharing an update on the program. The emails are going out to all pass holders, but we know that it takes a long time for them to email the entire pass base, so if you haven’t received it yet, it should still be coming. These changes announced today are actually a shift from the previous comments from the former Disneyland President who is now Chairman of all the theme parks. It really does feel like they have heard the complaints from pass holders and are making this decision in response.

Right now, pass holders are asked to cancel a park reservation by 11:59 p.m. the evening prior. If they don’t cancel three times, a penalty is applied to the pass.

Disneyland officials are now acknowledging that this system could put a strain on pass holders and that plans change. They are making a specific change to give pass holders more flexibility in how they visit the theme parks. Starting on October 7, the no-show penalty will stop being enforced. The penalty will still be enforced until midnight today (October 6, 2026), but beyond that, any blocked status will be removed.

Reservations are still going to remain at the theme park. That part of the process of making a reservation for your day will not change. They are asking that Magic Key Annual Pass Holders still cancel  their park reservations if they are not able to use them on that date so that they can open up spots for other guests.

Magic Key holders can now make same day modifications and cancellations for reservations.

Disneyland officials shared with us that the theme park reservations are still an important tool that allows them to prepare for each day. They shared that the frustration around the no-show policy was an area that they felt they could make improvements in for the program.

They are actively working to keep looking for ways to improve the Magic Key experience, including introducing a Disney Dining Card included with renewals through May 26, 2027. They are also offering more perks for pass holders throughout the year with gifts sent to homes and given out in the parks. They are planning new “new “Iconic Disneyland®” Extras Unlocked offerings coming in 2027” according to the letter from Estorino which is included in full below.

This announcement comes the same day that Disneyland increased some ticket prices and kept others flat. While making the changes they did not increase the price of the Magic Key passes at all.

We also have been writing recently about how Disney seems to be truly listening to guests to find ways to improve the theme park experience. During the recent D23 presentation, they shared announcements that directly improved the parks based on feedback from guests. See my full article capturing the importance of listening to the fans.

In earnings calls so far this year, we have heard new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro talk about centering the fans in every decision that the company makes. The announcement today at Disneyland is another example of Disney proving that this isn’t just a fluffy earnings statement, but something that will actually be put into action.

Here’s the full letter from Disneyland President Jill Estorino:

Hello from the Disneyland® Resort!

Seven months into my role as president, I’ve been so inspired by the fans who call this place home. Your love for Disneyland®, your traditions, your feedback and your passion mean so much to us, and I want to thank you for being our most loyal supporters.

As you know better than anyone else, Disneyland® is much more than a place. It’s an idea that became an icon known around the world. Over 70 years later, we’re still bringing Walt’s vision to life every day, making the kind of magic he dreamed would inspire generations of Guests. And I want you to know that we’re listening — your insights, ideas and experiences matter. You help us improve the experience for our Guests as we imagine our future while honoring our past.

That’s why I’m excited to share that starting tomorrow, October 7, 2026:

  • We will remove the Magic Key no-show penalty
  • You will be able to modify or cancel your Park reservation up until 11:59 p.m. PT on the day of your reserved date, providing you with more flexibility Park reservations will still be required to help us prepare for each day, and we ask that you please modify or cancel your reservation if your plans change so we can offer that availability to other Guests.

We also continue to look for opportunities to show our appreciation for you. We are currently including a Disney Dining Card with all Magic Key renewals through May 26, 2027, and we’re excited for our new “Iconic Disneyland®” Extras Unlocked offerings coming in 2027.

Next year will be special with the return of some of your favorite entertainment offerings: “Remember… Dreams Come True” and the original “World of Color” nighttime spectaculars, and the “Magic Happens” parade — I can’t wait!

Thank you for making us a part of your story. We look forward to creating even more memories with you in the years ahead.

With gratitude,

Jill Estorino

President, Disneyland® Resort
