Disney World Refurbishment Calendar 2025 – Ride Closures

In order to keep the park magical Walt Disney World refurbishments provide general upkeep and maintain the safety of all the attractions and experiences in the resort.

Disney works hard to try their best to complete these refurbishments in a timely manner so they don't impact guest experience during peak times of the year. This Walt Disney World closures calendar includes all the ride closures for Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom.

Keep reading to find out what Walt Disney World rides are closed currently and what to expect on your trip. We anticipate that there will be additional closures during the slower period in the end of January and February before the Walt Disney World spring break season.

What Rides Are Closed at Disney World in 2025?

Here are all the current Walt Disney World refurbishments you should be aware of if you're planning a trip in 2025! Walt Disney World may change these dates as these are always just estimates as different factors can delay these projects such as weather or staffing shortages.

It's always best to check the daily Walt Disney World refurbishment calendar on the Disney website the day of your visit to see what is open the day of your park visit.

Animal Kingdom

  • Primeval Whirl – Permanently closed and removed from the park
  • It's Tough to Be a Bug – This attraction closed on March 17, 2025, to become a Zootopia-themed show opening this winter. You can read all the details on that change here.
  • The last day of operation for TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures was January 12, 2025.

The DinoLand U.S.A. section of Animal Kingdom will be undergoing a reimagining to transform into a land inspired by the Tropical Americas. The land will have two signature attractions, an Encanto attraction and an Indiana Jones experience. Disney shared that the construction will happen in phases, and the land will open in 2027.

EPCOT

Spaceship Earth

  • Spaceship Earth – closing for refurbishment on August 25 and is scheduled to reopen later this year, according to Scott Gustin on X.

Test Track recently reopened in its reimagined form on July 22, 2025. You can see our separate article reviewing the changes to Test Track here.

CommuniCore Hall recently opened on June 10 last year. This area will be the new center for the various Epcot festivals throughout the year.The Journey of Water Inspired by Moana and the new World Celebration area of the park is finally now open with stunning night time lighting that we detail here.

Magic Kingdom

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – closing starting August 4, 2025, for a major overhaul that will introduce a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements. You can read about these changes in our article on the overhaul here.
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Closed on January 6, 2025 for an extended refurbishment. This ride will be closed for a long period of time and is planned to open in 2026 “with new enhancements” according to Scott Gustin on X.

Rivers of America (Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island) permanently closed on July 7, 2025, as Disney reimagines this section of Frontierland into a new Cars-themed area. You can see details about that closure here and concept art and new details for the Cars-themed area coming here.

Country Bear Jamboree recently reopened a new Country Bear Musical Jamboree show. In this reimagining of the show, the bears reinterpret favorite Disney tunes in various country music genres like bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, and rockabilly. Hollywood Studios

Muppet*Vision 3D closed permanently on June 8, 2025 to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Hollywood Studios. You can read more details about the Muppet*Vision 3D closure here.

An updated Little Mermaid show called “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” recently debuted at Hollywood Studios on May 27, 2025. The show is a change from the previous Little Mermaid musical as it focuses on storytelling from Ariel's point of view. You can see details about the Little Mermaid show and our review here.

The Star Wars Jedi Training Academy stage is still a vacant location in Hollywood Studios. We would sure love to see them return a Star Wars show here.

  1. I hope they do not add an Indiana Jones ride area like in Disneyland. I was really looking forward to the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland and we were quite under impressed!
