Disney Minnie Ear Headbands
Disney Minnie ears come in a variety of different styles and editions. It's nearly impossible to list all the ones they've done over the years but it's easier to at least sort them into different categories!
Disney Character Minnie Ears
If you have a favorite Disney character, chances are a Disney Minnie ears headband exists for that character with possibility different variations. This applies not just to classic characters but to Disney Princesses, Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar characters.
Ears released at the same time a character is popular will also show that same popularity.
The Scarlet Witch Minnie ears were tricky to find at first as demand outpaced the product available.
There's also fun variations of character ears like these Slinky Dog ones.
Sequin Minnie Ears
There have been a variety of Minnie sequin ears released in different colors. These sequin ears often are released alongside a matching Loungefly backpack and spirit jersey.
One of the most iconic of these released were the rose gold Minnie ears. The colors released often coordinate with other popular shades and rose gold was having its moment at the time. Of course, I think rose gold is timeless when it comes to Minnie ears!
Park Celebration Ears
Disney does not let any anniversary, whether it's for their films or their parks, go unnoticed. These celebrations often come with their own line of merchandise.
We saw tons of specialty merchandise, including Minnie ears, for the Walt Disney World 50th anniversary which included light up ears!
The Disney100 celebration also came with its own lineup of ears with each different merchandise collection released. These are often favorites for collectors to pursue.
Yearly Merch Line Ears
Each year Disney merchandise releases a collection with Minnie ears, spirit jerseys, t-shirts, and more. These ears are often not quite as in demand as other options since these collections often aren't as rare or specific as others.
Disneyland & Walt Disney World Specific Ears
Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World have their special lineup of park specific Minnie ears.
You especially see this showcased at Walt Disney World with many of the resort hotels offering their own specific Minnie ears and other merchandise.
Halloween Minnie Ears
One of my favorite times to collect ears is for Halloween! There's so many fun varieties whether you opt for Disneyland focused ears or ones specific to Oogie Boogie Bash or Halloween party events. Each years brings a new lineup of Halloween ears.
Christmas Minnie Ears
Christmas Minnie ears might even be more fun to collect than Halloween Minnie ears. There is always an over abundance of selection when picking Christmas Minnie ears so this is a lot of fun for collectors. Christmas is one of the best times to visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World!
Special Occasion Ears
There's also a lineup of special occasion Minnie ears you can find to celebrate life moments like graduations, weddings, birthdays, and more. These are all fun options if you are going to Disney to celebrate.
Loungefly Minnie Ears
Loungefly also usually offers its own special editions of Minnie ears with some including matching backpacks with ear strap holders. These vary throughout the year and some may celebrate certain events or holidays.
Rare Disney Minnie Ears
What makes a Disney ear headband rare? Limited quantities and a limited method of accessing the ears. If the Minnie ears are easily accessible and sold in larger quantities, we would consider them more commonly found.
One great example of rare Minnie ears are any of the ear headbands and hats that you can purchase at Club 33 at Disneyland.
Members and guests of members can purchase exclusive Club 33 merchandise during their visit which always include a select of ears. You cannot purchase these items without entry into this exclusive club.
Just like how common Minnie ears celebrate different occasions, you will see a similar pattern at Club 33 with certain designs celebrating park anniversaries.
There have also been numerous designer Minnie ears released in the past with partnerships with brands like Vera Wang, Coach, and more. These are Minnie ears that are going to be priced to match (the Vera Wang ears sold for $600!) and are made in limited quantities.
Homemade Minnie Ears
There is an enormous selection of homemade Minnie ears on Etsy and many Disney fans prefer going this route since they can be made with smaller headbands. Smaller headbands are more comfortable to wear so if you are prone to headband headaches, these are a good alternative.
And there are so many different creative people on Etsy making some great options! Although, some of this walks a fine line with Disney's copyright and licensing policies so that is something to be aware of. Technically, creators need to obtain permission from Disney before they can legally sell ears based on Disney's Intellectual Property Rights. Many sellers on sites like Etsy do not obtain this permission so this often results in many shops being shut down.
Original Disney Ear Hats
Of course, the Minnie ear headbands came after the original Disney Ear Hats that were worn by the original Mickey Mouse Club. They are appealing to all guests visiting Disneyland with child and adults alike wearing them.
Minnie ear bands have come a long way! I still have my original pair from the 90's and the rough plastic headband with teeth didn't exactly scream comfort.
Disney Mickey Ear Hat Embroidering
You can get your Disney Mickey Ear hats embodied in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This is an additional cost after you purchase your Mickey Ear hat and the cast member will embroider your name or other short phrase on your ear hat!
The basic embroidery is $3.00 while premium embroidery fonts are $7.00 so the price varies depending on what you are having added.
How to Deal with Minnie Ear Headaches
Many folks complain about the headaches that can come from wearing the Minnie ear headbands. The headbands are pretty sturdy and can feel really tight especially when brand new.
The most obvious answer is, well, don't wear them if they hurt. But that's not the answer many of us want to hear!
My best way of dealing with Minnie ears hurting my head is to make sure to stretch them out before I wear new ones. I find the arm of a couch or a rolled up towel to put my ears on before I wear them and this helps them stretch. They don't feel as tight then! I do this for a few days which I have found really helps. I also take breaks from wearing my ears in the parks if they are bothering me. This way there's not nonstop pressure on my head which helps quite a bit.
If you prefer baseball hats, you can find hats with Mickey ears in the parks that also provide a nice alternative to wearing the headbands. There's so many different options to pick from.
And of course, there's the option of wearing homemade Minnie ears found on Etsy or other popular platforms. Or you can even make your own and pick a headband that doesn't hurt!
Where to Find Minnie Ears?
You can find Disney Minnie ears on the DisneyStore.com, merchandise locations in Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Springs, and Downtown Disney. There is truly no issue finding them in the parks, they are located all over! You will have the largest selection in the theme parks than you will online, this often where you can find the most specific ears.
You can even find resort specific Minnie ears to the Walt Disney World hotels! You can find really cute ears by checking the hotel gift shops.
A special hack for finding discount Minnie Ears is to keep an eye on your local Burlington! This is where Disney often sends their overstock that doesn't sell at their discount warehouse. I see Minnie Ears at my local Burlington often and have even found items like Spirit Jerseys there.
