Best Pastries at Walt Disney World RANKED

Disney World is well-known for its high quality restaurants, but what about its pastries?

It's easy to come up with a list of the top table-service restaurants or top quick-service restaurants at Disney World. Heck, it's easy to come up with a list of the top bars and lounges at Disney World. But, the top pastries? That's a whole new ballgame of top foods.

When coming up with this list, I initially had a hard time naming some of my favorites, mostly because I don't normally go out of my way to find a pastry at Disney World. Usually, I snag a quick bite of a sweet treat wherever's most convenient. But the more I thought about it, the more my list became obvious. And long. You'd be surprised at how many pastries at Disney World are well-worth your time and money.

Here's our list of top pastries at Disney World.

What Counts as a Pastry, Anyway?

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Before we dive into the best pastries at Disney World, we need to be clear and define exactly what a pastry is.

Although it may be obvious to name a bunch of desserts that qualify as pastries, defining a pastry is more difficult. After a very heated discussion with my wife, we took to the internet to help us find what we needed:

According to Merriam-Webster, a pastry is: a dough that is used to make pies and other baked goods and typically has a high fat content.

According to Cambridge Dictionary, a pastry is: a food made from a mixture of flour, fat, and water, rolled flat and either wrapped around or put over or under other foods, and then baked

According to Britannica, a pastry is: rolled or patted out into thin sheets to line pie or tart pans and to enclose fillings

From these three sources, we can confidently say that a pastry fulfills the following:

  1. It's made of dough
  2. The dough is wrapped around or placed under other foods, usually fillings
  3. It's baked before it's eaten

This means that a cake or a cupcake are not pastries, a cookie is not a pastry, and nor is a macaron. However, a donut is a pastry, a croissant is a pastry, and so is a Danish.

So with the definition of a pastry squared away, let's get into our list of the best pastries at Disney World.

By the Way, This One Popular Pastry Didn't Make the List

Cinnamon Roll

As much as I love cinnamon rolls, I am not a fan of the cinnamon roll from Gaston's Tavern at Magic Kingdom.

Yes, the cinnamon roll is huge and makes for a great shareable snack. Yes, the cream cheese icing is tasty and you can ask for more on the side. But as popular as this dessert is, I've never found the cinnamon roll to satisfy my sweet tooth.

It lacks the softness and chewiness of a classic cinnamon roll. In fact, the bread is much too dry. And with a humongous cinnamon roll like this one, the bread plays a major factor in how good this pastry tastes. Additionally, the bread-to-icing ratio is much too high.

With that said, let's get on with our list of best pastries at Disney World!

School Bread

School Bread

Location: Kringla Bakery og Cafe, EPCOT

It's hard to not have the School Bread on a list of best pastries at Disney World, and for good reason. This simple treat is a sweet bread roll that's injected with vanilla custard, then covered with sweet icing and toasted coconut. The springy, chewy texture of the bread roll combined with the smooth, cool custard and the crunchy coconut makes for a great pastry to eat. And you might be surprised at how this pastry isn't overly sweet!

Norwegian Kringla

Kringla

Location: Kringla Bakery og Cafe, EPCOT

Usually overshadowed by the popular School Bread, the Norwegian Kringla is not a pastry to be overlooked. While it looks like a pretzel, its texture resembles more of a danish. It's soft with just a hint of chewiness, making it a delight to chew. Between the frosting on top and the raisins inside, it also packs a lot of sweetness, so beware! It also comes in two flavors: chocolate and almond.

Beignets

Beignets

Location: Scat Cat's Club – Cafe, Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter; Golden Oak Outpost, Magic Kingdom

Another classic pastry and staple at Disney World are beignets. These New Orleans-inspired pastries are square pieces of fried dough covered in powdered sugar. Made with fewer eggs, they're slightly lighter and softer than donuts, making them an absolute delight to eat. For these fluffy pastries, you can get them at two places: Scat Cat's Club at Disney's Port Orlean's Resort – French Quarter or at Golden Oak Outpost at Magic Kingdom. The best part of the ones at Scat Cat's Club is that they are Mickey-shaped!

Caramel Butter Bar

Caramel Butter Bar

Location: Karamell-Küche, EPCOT

To me, the Caramel Butter Bar is the pièce de résistance of all the pastries offered at Karamell-Küche. This combination of thick caramel on top of layers of buttery shortbread is the best sweet-treat you could buy here. And with how rich in taste the caramel is, a small bite goes a long way.

Baklava

Baklava

Location: Oasis Sweets & Sips, EPCOT

Far too many people overlook Oasis Sweets & Sips at Morocco Pavilion. Here, you can find a variety of Mediterranean sweets, but my favorite pastry here is the Pistachio Baklava. This buttery and flaky puff filled with honey and a variety of nuts gives a unique tasting experience you're sure to enjoy.

Croissant

Croissant

Location: Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie, EPCOT

It's really difficult to decide on a snack when you're visiting Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie at France Pavilion. However, I'm going to stick to the basics here, because the plain butter croissant is really hard to beat. It's flaky on the outside but soft on the inside and its buttery taste adds just the right amount of flavor. Of course, it's the base to so many other food options here, including the Pain au Chocolat (chocolate croissant) and the Croissant Salé (eggs, cheese, and bacon croissant).

Beignet

Beignet

Location: Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie, EPCOT

Did you know that you can get a beignet at EPCOT? What sets this one apart from the one you can get at Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is that this one is filled with chocolate and hazelnuts. Additionally, the dough in this one is more donut-like, making it thicker. It adds a unique texture and flavor, making you want to try all of the beignets offered at Disney World!

Eclair

Eclair

Location: Amorette's Patisserie, Disney Springs

Just about anything at Amorette's Patisserie is worth your money. But in terms of pastries (by our definition), the eclair is our pick. While Amorette's Patisserie offers different flavors of eclairs throughout the year, you'll consistently find that the dough used for the pastry is light, airy, and baked well. Whatever flavor you choose, you'll get plenty of tasty filling, potentially making for a messy snack! But overall, your sweet tooth will be satisfied.

Anything From Le Petit Café

Lemon Profiterole

Location: Le Petit Café, Disney's Riviera Resort

It's hard to leave out anything from Le Petit Café because 1) you'll always find great pastry options here, and 2) their pastry menu changes fairly often. This cafe in the lobby of the Riviera Resort serves coffee and breakfast food in the morning and cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and pastries in the afternoon and evening. More recently, they started offering a Lemon Profiterole, which is the perfect pastry for anyone that loves lemon-flavored sweets. Pair this delectable pastry with a coffee (or a cocktail), and you're good to go!

What's my Favorite Pastry at Disney World?

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Even from the short list of pastries here, deciding which one is my favorite is a challenge.

I am very much a sweets guy, so any one of these pastries could be my favorite at any given point in time. However, the pastry I find myself wanting over and over again resides at Kringla Bakery og Cafe, and no, it's not the School Bread.

While the School Bread is a fan favorite (and it's certainly within my top 3 pastry picks), the pastry I'll go back to get over and over again is the Norwegian Kringla. Its texture is perfect, with its softness and just a hint of chewiness. It's also easier to take bites from compared to the School Bread with its custard filling. And finally, it comes in two flavors, giving me variety each time I visit EPCOT!
