As Planned Closure Date Nears, Disney Shares They Will Preserve MuppetVision 3D as Part of New Effort

Muppet*Vision 3D, the Muppets themed show at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, is closing soon to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. themed land.

Muppet*Vision 3D was the final project Jim Henson worked on and is an important part of his legacy which is why we are excited to learn that Disney is planning to preserve the attraction.

Special Filming Planned for Muppet*Vision 3D

Posts from cast members on social media revealed that they have been invited to register for an event called “Filming Event- Archiving Muppet*Vision 3D!” during May at Hollywood Studios. Cast members can register for the event and will likely act as the live audience for a recording to preserve the attraction.

Disney confirmed that this is part of their plan to digitally capture Muppet*Vision 3D which means the attraction is documented for any possible plans in the future. It could be the footage might just become part of the Disney archives but we hope that this will lead to some form of a digital copy that could be shared with audiences.

When Disney first announced the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, they implied there were talks of considering how to preserve the film and experience for fans to enjoy in the future so this could definitely be a possibility. I could see a small release on Disney+ working well for this especially since the platform already houses so much theme park content that Disney fans love.

MuppetVision 3D! will have its final performance on June 7, 2025 before it closes to make room for the new Monsters, Inc! land. This won’t be the entire removal of the Muppets from Hollywood Studios though as they will soon be replacing Aerosmith as the stars of a retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
