Disney Announces MuppetVision 3D Permanent CLOSING Date

After Disney announced that a Monsters, Inc.-themed land would be coming to Hollywood Studios, many fans wondered where this new land would be going before Disney recently confirmed it would replace Muppet*Vision 3D and Muppets Courtyard.

Now, we have news of the closure dates for the attractions and restaurants that will be permanently removed to make way for the new land. While many are disappointed about the removal of Muppet*Vision 3D, The Muppets will still have a presence at the park as part of a retheming that will become the first-ever Disney ride to feature The Muppets.

Closing Dates for Muppet*Vision and Restaurants Announced

The new Hollywood Studios Monsters, Inc. land will be coming to the south side of the park, featuring a suspended door coaster, shopping, dining, and a new theater show. The land is set after the events of the film when humans are invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. and the monsters need laughter to power the city.

To make room for these new experiences, Disney has shared that the Grand Avenue area will undergo a phased closing starting in May, with the last day to enjoy Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano on May 10. Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close the following month, and June 7 will be the last day to experience these.

For Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney shared that they are having “creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” The Muppets will also soon be replacing Aerosmith as the stars of a retheme of Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster, though we do not yet have details on when construction for that retheme will begin. The ride will feature The Muppets teaming up alongside “some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”

There is still some more time to experience Muppet*Vision 3D before work begins this summer in Hollywood Studios. Meanwhile, Disney has broken ground on the retheme of DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom to transform it into a Tropical Americas land featuring Encanto and Indiana Jones.
