Over the past several months, Disneyland has been working to replace the turnstiles at the resort with updated ADA-compliant entry gates that utilize new facial recognition technology. Construction has taken place in batches to install these new entry gates, and now these are officially up and running.
Disneyland has just shared some additional information on how these new entry gates work for guests to learn ahead of their trip. This is helpful to know if you have a visit soon, as the process is a little bit different from what it was previously! Keep reading for more details…

How to Use New Disneyland Entry Gates
These new gates will be in use wherever guests are scanning into a theme park at the resort, including the main entrances to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure at the esplanade, the Disneyland Monorail at the Downtown Disney station (with transportation to Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park with valid admission), and at the private Disney California Adventure entrances near Pixar Place Hotel (30 minutes prior to park opening until 12 p.m. PST) and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. This last entrance is still under construction at the time of writing, but guests will be able to utilize it soon.
The new entry gates are ADA-compliant, so guests visiting with ECVs, wheelchairs, and strollers can easily go through. A fun detail is that each entry gate features character clips of Mickey Mouse at Disneyland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit at California Adventure, welcoming and bidding farewell to guests upon entry and exit.
When entering the parks, you’ll scan your ticket using the screens at the entry gate, then each person will press the camera icon on the screen to take their picture. The screens have camera technology that will adjust to your height when taking a picture, so it will be the same process for kids.

Once these steps are complete and your photo is digitally attached to your ticket, the entry gates will open for you and your group to enter together. Those who have multi-day tickets or a Magic Key pass will only need to link their picture to their ticket once. The gates will also have an access point to tap your MagicBand+ as well.
While toddlers under 3 years old don’t need a ticket for admission to the park, they will follow the same process of scanning and capturing a photo upon entering.
These new entry gates make the process of scanning into the park guest-driven, but Cast Members will also be nearby to assist if needed. In these initial days since Disneyland launched these entry gates, we have seen some reports of delays and long lines, especially during the earlier hours of the day when most guests are entering the parks. We don’t anticipate that this is going to be a long-term problem, as growing pains are expected with a change like this, and it will likely take a little bit of time for both guests and Cast Members to acclimate to the new system. It is not dramatically different than the fingerprint system at Disney World, so we expect the process to get more efficient over time.
