Walt Disney World has shared new information about the Muppets-themed roller coaster that is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The information was released on the final day of operation of Muppet*Vision 3D, the beloved 3D show that is being replaced as part of the addition of a new Monsters Inc mini land that will feature the first ever Monsters Inc roller coaster.

New Muppets Roller Coaster Opening Details
Seemingly in response to the fan reaction to the removal of Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney previously announced that they would be creating a new version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starrring Aeorsmith starring the Muppets. You can see the news about this new Muppets roller coaster here.
Disney described this new version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster –
The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival! We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!
Based on the official description, it seems like the attraction will feature popular music from other stars. I hope that they do a rotating mix of artists and music mixed in with the Muppets to deliver a surprise song experience similar to how they have random Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind songs.

Disney just shared that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will remain open through the rest of 2025 and will close at some point in early 2026 for work on changing this over to feature the Muppets. The attraction will also open in 2026.
Disney released a video today featuring Kermit the Frog talking about their move from Muppet*Vision 3D over to the roller coaster.
In the video Kermit shared, “The Muppets are busy packing things up and getting ready for our big move to Sunset Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. I can’t tell you how excited we are to be part of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, the first ever Muppets coaster in existence. That is if you don’t count Gonzo’s homemade Laundry Shoot Roller Coaster in our old theater, which I do not. We will see you all there in 2026.”

We anticipate that they have done a ton of pre-work on the change to this attraction and hope that they are working on an aggressive timeline to get this attraction open by summer 2026. I assume that the majority of the changes to the attraction are going to be audio and visual on screens rather than anything substantial on the ride itself. Could be wrong on this, but it feels like an easy switch over for an attraction that currently only relies on screens.
I am imagining that we will get new signage in the queue, a new welcome video featuring the Muppets within the same recording studio setting, new decorations in the loading area (perhaps reused from Muppet*Vision 3D), and then a new onboard audio loop. Maybe we will get more decorations than this, but it feels like a couple month refurbishment rather than a year-long or even 6-month long time period. What do you think they should do?
Disney has completed multiple Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster refurbishments in the past couple of years which likely focused on upkeep for the attraction so I am hoping that this closure won’t require the mechanics of the ride to be a big focus.
Also opening next summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the new version of the Star Wars: Millennium Falcon attraction. That ride is going to open alongside the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie on May 22, 2026. Disney often likes to group openings to make it into a bigger summer narrative. We could see them do this around a broader Star Wars campaign (wish we could have the zany Star Wars Weekends back) and save Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or bring them both online at the same time and make these Hollywood Studios additions central launches for next year.
If the Muppets coaster could be ready that quickly, I am sure that they would want to get it out the door then or within a few weeks of that opening to have it be a summer launch.
We already miss Muppet*Vision 3D and are hopefully that is is preserved in some form. Perhaps on Disney+ (they did just capture a final show of the attraction with Cast Members) or maybe to another Disney theme park – no word on whether the theater space in Disney California Adventure that previously was home to Muppet*Vision 3D will survive the new Avatar expansion headed there. Earlier this week, we actually had a false alarm when we spotted a web page on the Disneyland.com website for Muppet*Vision 3D. This immediately had us wondering whether the show was going to pop up here for a limited time.
When we dug deeper, we saw that it had come up on the website early this year and seems to be a remnant from when the show was previously in the park or a technical mistake from the Walt Disney World web team. We confirmed this isn’t currently planned at Disneyland. Our hopes were high for a moment.
Though we will miss the classic show, this new coaster is a welcome addition for Muppets fans and a great way to keep some presence in the theme parks.
