Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Song List

The song list for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an absolute fan-favorite at EPCOT and sends guests on a ride of emotions.

Similar to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in Disney California Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind features 6 awesome songs that make you want to dance in your seat as you ride through space to save the galaxy. Debuting 5 years after its West Coast counterpart, Disney understood just how fun an “Awesome Mix Tape” was in a thrill attraction and brought it over to Central Florida, but with a twist. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind features a one-of-a-kind ride vehicle that Disney calls an “OmniCoaster,” which rotates left and right as you race down the coaster track.

Here at Mickey Visit, we frequent Walt Disney World and had the chance to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind plenty of times since it opened. We’ve learned the best tips on how to ride and get the most out of this “OmniCoaster” dark ride. Today, we’re focusing on the signature feature of the Guardians of the Galaxy films: the music!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – The Background Story

Cosmic Rewind Nova Corps Ship

If you’ve never ridden this attraction want don’t want spoilers, you may want to skip to the next section!

In this ride, the antagonist Eson, a Celestial wants to “right a wrong in a big way” by taking Earth back to the dawn of time and erasing its existence. Guests, who were originally taken on a tour of a Nova ship to see the Cosmic Generator, now must help the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop Eson from erasing Earth’s existence. Using shuttles that Rocket controls (the “OmniCoaster”), guests follow Eson through jumpholes so that the Guardians of the Galaxy can track them to recover the Cosmic Generator.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an incredible thrill attraction that sends you flying through the galaxy!

Guardians of the Galaxy: It’s All About the “Awesome Mix”

Cosmic Rewind Queue

Believe it or not, Walt Disney Imagineers left no stone unturned when designing Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

In fact, Imagineers came up with a list of more than 100 potential songs for the song list for this ride. In order to narrow down that cosmic-sized list, the Cosmic Rewind team had to ride the attraction over and over again to test how each potential song fit with every twist and turn of the roller coaster. As Imagineering put it, the goal was to find the “perfect balance for the song choices with fun energy, a flow that matched the major movements of the ride, and lyrics that gave a fun nod to the story of our attraction.”

The result: an “Awesome Mix” song list that sends guests on an incredible adventure through outer space to save the galaxy.

Compare This Cosmic Rewind Song List to That of Mission: BREAKOUT!

Mission: BREAKOUT!

Many Disney theme park guests love to compare West Coast and East Coast attractions, and Guardians of the Galaxy is special because it’s represented on both coasts.

For the sake of comparison, here’s the song list for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure:

  • “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” – Pat Benatar
  • “Give Up the Funk” – Parliament
  • “Born to be Wild” – Steppenwolf
  • “I Want You Back” – The Jackson 5
  • “Free Ride” – The Edgar Winter Group
  • “Burning Love” – Elvis Presley

While it’s easy to get carried away with debating how 1 playlist is better than the other, we need to remember 1 thing in particular. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is a thrill drop ride whereas Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an indoor “OmniCoaster” dark ride. These are 2 very different styles of thrill rides that require specific types of songs. In other words, you’d likely be hard pressed to use the song list from Mission: BREAKOUT! on Cosmic Rewind and feel the same thrill!

It's really difficult to say which song list is better – they both serve their purpose very well!

The Song You’ll Hear Will Likely be Different Every Time You Ride

Cosmic Rewind Ride Vehicle

Contrary to popular belief, the song list for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is not random.

Guests who frequent EPCOT have their favorite song from the song list and always hope to get that song when they ride Cosmic Rewind. What not many guests know is that each of the 6 songs for Cosmic Rewind plays in the same order all day. Truth be told, I actually don’t know the order of the song list. But even if I did figure it out, there’s a few other hurdles I’d have to jump through in order to get the song I wanted.

First, between the virtual queue line and the Lightning Lane line, there are 2 different groups of guests waiting to ride Cosmic Rewind (3 if you factor in the standby queue during After Hours events). As each line merges into the pre-show room, your spot in line becomes so variable that it’s difficult to time your ride to get a specific song.

Second, once you arrive in the loading area, guests are split into 2 different loading zones. Each of the song lists for either coaster are likely not synced, making your song list even more variable.

Our take: each of the 6 songs on the song list for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind gives a completely different feel and experience. One song makes the ride feel a little slower while another song makes the ride feel much faster. Whatever song you get when you ride, let it take over and soak it all in! You’ll love your experience no matter what.

If you want to hear any of the songs from the over 100 potential songs that didn’t make the cut, don’t worry. You’ll still get to hear a lot of them in the exit corridor as you’re leaving the attraction!

How to Ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Cosmic Rewind Loading Area

There are currently 3 ways to experience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Like the newest rides and attractions in recent years at Walt Disney World, Cosmic Rewind initially opened up with a virtual queue system. Soon after, Disney introduced the ability for guests to purchase Individual Lightning Lanes. And most recently, Disney opened up a standby queue for the Ride specifically for After Hours events.

Let’s briefly go over how each of these systems work:

Virtual Queue

Just the system for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Tron: Lightcycle Run, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway when each of these attractions first opened, guests use the My Disney Experience app to get 2 chances to snag a virtual spot to ride Cosmic Rewind. If you get a boarding group, your group will report to the attraction at your designated time.

Be sure to read our guide for more in-depth information on how to successfully use the virtual queue system!

Individual Lightning Lane

This system allows you to purchase a guaranteed return time without having to participate in the virtual queue system. Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests can purchase their Individual Lightning Lane starting at 7:00am on the day of their visit, while all other guests can make their purchase when the theme park opens.

Make sure to check out our guide for more in-depth information on how to successfully use the Individual Lightning Lane system!

Standby Queue

Only open for After Hours events, the standby queue for Cosmic Rewind works just like how any other standby queue works for all attractions at Walt Disney World. For this line, guests are able to get into the standby line without having to use the virtual queue or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane.

Again, the standby queue is only open for After Hours events, not during normal theme park hours.

Yes, You Can Ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind More Than Once in a Day!

Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show

On the right day, you can ride Cosmic Rewind at least 3 times in 1 day!

On a day you choose to attend an EPCOT After Hours event, you are able to enter the Virtual Queue for a boarding group at 7:00am. Then, you can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane at 7:00am if you’re a Walt Disney World Resort hotel guest or at the time EPCOT opens. Finally, you can enter the standby queue multiple times at the start of the After Hours event.

This let’s you enjoy the ride multiple times while increasing your chances of hearing different songs from the song list!

There Was a Holiday Remix in the Past

Cosmic Rewind Holiday Remix

For the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays in 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Holiday Remix greeted guests with out-of-this-world holiday cheer.

For this overlay, Disney replaced the standard song list with an original arrangement of holiday-themed music. The song list featured parts of popular songs like “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” Run Run Rudolph,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

For 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Holiday Remix didn’t return. Instead, the song list remained the standard 6 songs everyone loves. This was likely because the guest reaction to the Holiday Remix overlay wasn’t as favorable as Disney had hoped.

That’s okay though, because the standard song list for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is already awesome!
