One of the major new projects in the works at Disney World right now is the creation of a Monsters, Inc. land in Hollywood Studios! To make way for this new land, the Muppets area of Hollywood Studios unfortunately had to say goodbye, including the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction, which recently closed after its last day on June 7.
Construction walls are now up around the area as Disney is getting to work on this new Monsters, Inc. land. See photos and details below!

Monsters, Inc. Land Construction Walls
There are now construction walls up in the Grand Avenue area of Hollywood Studios as they work to transform this area into the new Monsters Inc. land. The new land will include the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney park, recreating the door vault scene from the film, dining and shopping, and a new theater show. The suspended coaster is one of the most highly anticipated new rides coming to Disney World. We recently got a look at an animatic showing the vertical lift after boarding, which looks so cool!

The concept art for the land is featured on the construction walls, and this updated art has some key changes from the previous iteration Disney shared.
This new area will be set after the events of the film, and the monsters are now inviting humans into the world of Monsters, Inc., and need laughter to power the city.
In the concept art, you'll see this reference to the Japanese restaurant “Harryhausen's” from the film, named after special effects icon Ray Harryhausen. We expect that this will be the main table-service dining offering in the new land.Â
This new concept art has some key changes from the previous version Disney shared. One of the more notable changes is that the theater has been renamed “The Glob,” and the fountain outside that was formerly the MuppetVision 3D fountain is going to stay largely the same (minus Miss Piggy) instead of being fully replaced by a Mike Wazowski fountain. We can also see that the entry gate has been removed, which was present in the earlier iteration of the concept art.
Another key change is that we're seeing more space in front of the doors coaster attraction building compared to the previous concept art. Previously, the walkway was just a straight shot to the attraction, but now there is more space opened up here.
Some of the billboards on the rooftops from the previous concept artwork have also been removed.
We don't yet have an opening timeline for this new land, as it's still in the early phases of construction. Ahead of Muppet*Vision 3D's closure, Disney held an event to digitally capture the show as part of an effort to preserve the attraction.

Visiting during the summer, the lack of an air-conditioned show space is definitely noticeable in this area in the heat! Thankfully, the timing of the opening of the new Villains show and the reimagined Little Mermaid show was good to spread out the crowds and provide a place for guests to take a break from the heat.
Disney World also recently announced the next big step for another one of its major projects! We now have the closure date for the Rivers of America, and more information about the Cars area replacing it, which you can see here.
