Disneyland Indiana Jones Adventure Reopens Completely Refreshed, Adds New Scene

After a three-month-long closure, Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure has reopened fresh and new. This top-rated Disneyland attraction was in big need of refurbishment and Disney went all out. Disney cleaned every single prop inside the attraction and worked to make the special effects like new. They even built a new scene to replace a projection area that always left something lacking.

All 40 mummies in the attraction were refurbished and each individual skull was cleaned. Excitingly the large snake that lunges at the car and the boulder that rolls in the finale of the attraction are now both working once again. This Disneyland ride closure was worth it!

What is the New Scene Added to Indiana Jones Adventure?

A new scene has been added to the attraction that replaces the dark scene that takes place once your car leaves the main room. Previously this was an all-black room with a projection of a rat scurrying along a branch. This was always one of the most lacking scenes in the attraction. Now there is a scene that combines projection technology and a physical set to “collapse” a possible escape from the temple right as the vehicle is headed in that direction. Here's a look captured by an seemingly unwitting Youtuber this morning.

Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine described the new scene to the OC Register by saying that “our additions to Indiana Jones Adventure add touches of new magic that enhance its already established storyline” She went on to say that “Mara taunts guests even further with a powerful, electric-like energy and frenetic apparitions. This force of Mara turns a possible passageway escape into a rubble of dust.” Though Disney shared initially that no changes would be made during this Disneyland closure, they added some nice touches.

The video projections that have been added to the attraction over the years were also refocused and the lighting was replaced. The OC Register reports that the projections are “much sharper, brighter, and more colorful” than previously. I am very excited to see these additions in person soon.

The exterior queue has new landscaping and the interior queue has now been repainted. The bamboo supports in the queue have also all now been replaced. Once again props like the rope hanging in the queue are working again.

Though there is a new Indiana Jones film coming out this summer, no specific references have been added to the attraction.

Some effects like the rotating main doors into the attraction and ice maker meant to replicate the ceiling caving in were not restored, but these were not greatly missed.
