3 Disneyland Single Rider Lines You Should Definitely Use and 2 You Should Skip

Especially during the more crowded seasons at Disneyland, lines can sometimes get brutally long for some of the most popular attractions offered at the parks. While Lightning Lanes can be a great way to skip the line for several attractions, they can only be used once per ride per day, leaving some riders disappointed they can't experience their favorites more than once.

Single Rider can often be the answer to this problem! Single Rider is a service offered for several rides at Disneyland that allows you to split from the rest of your party to fill the remaining spots in ride vehicles that aren't occupied by groups in the standby line. You'll enter a separate line that is often a much shorter wait and ride individually. As long as you don't mind riding alone and everyone in your party is above the minimum age required to do this (7 years or older), Single Rider is a fantastic way to experience your favorite attractions multiple times in one day without having to endure the long standby waits.

However, given that the way that certain ride spots are filled varies per attraction, not every Disneyland Single Rider experience is created equal. We are frequent Disneyland visitors who have tried all of the Single Rider lines and formed some opinions on which you should definitely do and which you may want to skip. 2 Disneyland Single Rider Lines You Should Skip

Grizzly Peak Disney California Adventure

Before we get into the details of the Single Rider lines you should definitely do, there are a few that may not be worth your time. For these two rides, there are some reasons why they might not be as great as other rides that offer this option.

Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon Galaxy's Edgge

For Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Galaxy's Edge, there are six different seats with roles you play when riding. However, not all of the roles are considered equal—the pilots and gunners have a much more substantial role than the engineers, who are basically just pushing buttons to repair the ship. If you're doing Single Rider for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, you're almost guaranteed to get engineer given that those are often the only empty spots left after the rest of the seats have been filled.

Because of this, we'd say that you're better off skipping this Single Rider experience and getting a Lightning Lane reservation. The only scenario where we'd recommend this is if you're a big Star Wars fan who just wants to enjoy the experience of flying in the Millennium Falcon without as many interactive components.

Soarin'

Soarin' is another Single Rider experience that we'd recommend skipping. Unfortunately, for this experience, you can end up waiting a long time for multiple theaters to cycle through for one Single Rider spot. We have tried Single Rider for this several times thinking it will be different but end up experiencing the same issue. Because of the way the ride spots are filled for this attraction, the Single Rider line can easily become stagnant.

Plus, this is arguably the toughest queue to wait in at Disneyland due to the lack of theming and cell service. You also won't be able to request the best spot for Soarin' which really makes a difference in the ride experience. You can read more about our disappointing experience with the Soarin' Single Rider line here. This is one that we would say is not worth your time.

Now that we've discussed the two Single Rider lines you don't want to spend your time on, let's cover some of our favorites…

3 Disneyland Single Rider Lines You Should Use

Radiator Springs Racers Single Rider

There are certain Disneyland Single Rider experiences that work super well to minimize your wait time for some of the best attractions. While it's almost always preferable to ride with your party, sometimes it's a good idea to split up so that you're making good use of your time, and we find these Single Rider experiences to be worth it. These are our favorite Single Rider lines that we always recommend!

Radiator Springs Racers

Radiator Springs Racers cars

Radiator Springs Racers is always going to be the Single Rider line that we think is 100% worth it. This is one of the two rides at the resort that currently offers Lightning Lane Single Pass entry, and these purchases can easily add up for a large party or over the course of a multi-day trip. The queue for standby also isn't super exciting for this attraction, so longer wait times can be rough.

We've always found that the Single Rider line for this attraction is a fraction of the wait for the standby line, which can easily climb to an hour or more. Even the longest wait times we've experienced in the Single Rider line are dramatically shorter than the regular line! While you should be prepared to split up from your group, in my experience, two members of my party in the Single Rider line often end up in the same car (one in the front row and one in the back) or in the car that we end up racing against, which is super fun!

We strongly recommend using the Single Rider line for this experience before you default to purchasing Lightning Lane Single Pass or using the standby line.

Grizzly River Run

Grizzly River Run Disney California Adventure

Especially when it's hot out at Disneyland, we recommend using Single Rider for Grizzly River Run. Grizzly River Run‘s wait times can spike as people are looking for a way to cool down during the summer, but if you use Single Rider, you can bypass the long lines. See our Instagram video we shared below where we skipped an hour wait for Grizzly River Run and walked onto the ride with Single Rider.

While it is admittedly fun to be with your party on this ride, you also tend to quickly form a sense of camaraderie with others on the raft as you are all facing each other and bracing to see who will get splashed/soaked first. As there are often multiple parties on the rafts anyways, doing Single Rider for this ride won't really dramatically affect your experience.

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure

Disney California Adventure WEB Slingers

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure is another experience that we think Single Rider is worth it for. You'll join the separate Single Rider line that guides you into a fenced-off separate area in the pre-show and takes you through a different route that lands you right next to the boarding vehicles. Our wait times for this have always been super fast as there is constantly the need to fill an extra space in the ride vehicles. We've done our fair share of waiting in the standby line, Lightning Lane entry, and Single Rider for this attraction, and Single Rider is always a solid option (especially if you want to ride multiple times).

If part of the appeal of the attraction is competing against your family or friends specifically, then you may find that Single Rider is not as much worth it for you. However, if you're more interested in beating your own past high score (or just showing off your web-slinging skills), you'll find that the ride experience stays basically the same. Plus, I've always found that there is a cute congratulatory exchange at the end of the ride between you as a Single Rider and the other party riding.
